CLASSIC 1997 chart there for me (97 was the year I was most into the charts). I remember the huge fuss when White Town went to #1 as he was a debut artist and that was VERY rare back in the day :o Plus Texas and No Mercy both climbers, pretty rare in the last 90s

Just wondered who in 2007 fell from No. 1 straight out of the Top 10.

Leona Lewis should actually be 06 (01) insted of 06 (11). :)

Fixed, well spotted

Wow, sales at the top last year were great and a BIG clearout of the top 10. A held back non-charity song selling more than 100k in its second week is seriously impressive, most other years "Grenade" would have been in the year-end top 5 and deservedly so. Could have been a million-seller by now had it been OA/OS :drama:

Hoping to see Titanium somehow get top three this week (wondering if Antidote might have dropped from #2 to #3/#4 a la You Need Me, I Don't Need You) and Kelly Clarkson top ten! Also looking forward to seeing where Gotye have ended up :D My retro faves;

2011

02. (-) Adele - Rolling In The Deep (82,975) Modern classic, what a shame it couldn't get a place higher

03. (2) Jessie J - Do It Like A Dude (50,096)

04. (-) Diddy Dirty Money - Coming Home ft Skylar Grey (49,986) This is excellent, one of my favourite songs of last year, such a great chorus and production

05. (-) Wretch 32 - Traktor (41,665)

06. (-) Britney Spears - Hold It Against Me (38,779) Shame this never made the top five but I suppose a year down the line even a #26 hit would be impressive for Britney :drama:

07. (3) Rihanna - What's My Name ft Drake (34,600)*

10. (10) JLS - Eyes Wide Shut (24,100)*

2007

01. (3) Mika - Grace Kelly (30,500) Still one of the best pop songs of the past five years, a deserved #1 even if everyone got bored of him as soon as his first era was over

02. (4) Just Jack - Starz In Their Eyes (29,000)

04. (6) Jojo - Too Little Too Late (22,000)

05. (8) Eric Prydz Vs Floyd - Proper Education (18,600)*

06. (11) Leona Lewis - A Moment Like This (17,800)*

08. (5) Take That - Patience (11,900)*

2002

01. (-) George Harrison - My Sweet Lord (66,567) Seemed utterly bizarre to have consecutive posthumous #1's, again a classic #2 missed out because of it. Not that My Sweet Lord isn't a classic, but it'd had its time before...

02. (-) Pink - Get The Party Started (60,000)

03. (-) Christina Milian - AM To PM (47,500)*

04. (2) Puretone - Addicted To Bass (38,300)*

05. (1) Aaliyah - More Than A Woman (28,200)*

06. (3) Daniel Bedingfield - Gotta Get Thru This (22,600)*

09. (-) Allstars - The Land Of Make Believe (18,700)* Haha, their only top ten hit, my sister loved them!

1997

01. (-) White Town - Your Woman (119,500) A classic for sure! Similar sales for this week last year and in 1997 :o

02. (1) Tori Amos - Professional Widow (It's Got To Be Big) (84,800)

03. (7) Texas - Say What You Want (57,000)*

04. (2) Backstreet Boys - Quit Playing Games (With My Heart) (52,000)

05. (10) No Mercy - Where Do You Go (48,000)* So Eurovision sounding, although weren't they from the US?

07. (5) Madonna - Don't Cry For Me Argentina (44,000)*

09. (9) En Vogue - Don't Let Go (Love) (36,000)

Adele wasn't as close to #1 as I remember either - Grenade did 2 weeks 100k+ which is really good for January.

Darren from Hollyoaks was in Allstars!

Darren from Hollyoaks was in Allstars!

Anyone remember their TV show Starstreet? The whole concept of this band was such a rip-off of S Club 7 that it's untrue. They did have one pop gold moment in Things That Go Bump In The Night, which really should have been their top ten hit. I remember Best Friends, their debut single, was tipped for huge things by most at the time including top three in the Woolies chart (how smug, eh!). It stalled at #20 iirc.

And the Bunny Boiler herself from Balls of Steel, Thaila zucchi

That's a fantastic 5 new-entries in the top 10 last year! :o Infact, the whole top 10 is great, I only didn't like Grenade. I completely forgot it sold over 100,000 on its 2nd week.

Ahhh the days of the Woolies chart totally getting things wrong (Kylie Spinning Around at #6, Geri's Mi Chico Latino #8 etc etc)

I'm still hating on Bruno for denying Adele. Also, I now see why Mika could get a number one in 2007, the sales were dismal. Its funny, I actually do think pop music is better now than between 2004-2007. Those numbers do seem indicative of quality and that isn't always the case with the charts.
05. (10) No Mercy - Where Do You Go (48,000)* So Eurovision sounding, although weren't they from the US?

The band itself was from the USA, but their producer was Frank Farian. Yes, the one who had already produced Boney M., Milly Vanilli and La Bouche. They were really big with their first album but people soon got bored of them so their next album completely flopped.

Dismal sales, but they were all relative - Grace Kelly was still the biggest thing at the time even with terrible sales. It is very annoying now though!

That was one of my favourite top 10s last year, Rolling In The Deep and Coming Home heading up the new entries, they were two of the best songs of last year; this week was when 2011 really started for me musically.

Like U Like, Hold It Against Me and Traktor I liked at the time also, so it was a good top 10 at the time.

Grace Kelly got to #1 5 years ago, really doesn't feel that long, one of my favourite pop songs ever!

A fantastic top 10 last year!

Ahhh the days of the Woolies chart totally getting things wrong (Kylie Spinning Around at #6, Geri's Mi Chico Latino #8 etc etc)

And what did they predict to be #1 on the week that Geri was being underpredicted, hence getting me very VERY excited?

DJ Jurgen Presents Alice Deejay - Better Off Alone :(

To be fair on them 90% of the time they weren't far off, some memorable highlights for me were Daz Sampson's Teenage Life being #3 on their chart (and seeing it in its full glory on the top shelf!) and Tommi's Like What a #1 in 2003 (who? Indeed...)
