PLAYING IN THE SHADOWS- Example (257,800) http://static.nme.com/images/gallery/ExamplePlayingInTheShadows600PR010911.jpg RELEASED: 04.09.11 PEAK POSITION: 1 WKS ON CHART: 17 CHARTING TRACKS: CHANGED THE WAY YOU KISS ME (1) STAY AWAKE (1) MIDNIGHT RUN (30) NATURAL DISASTER (37) An artist who has grown bigger with each release, Elliot Gleave was kind of discovered by Radio One’s Zane Low and Pete Tong who championed his early tracks and provided the exposure required to gain a record deal, second album “Won’t Go Quietly” proved the breakthrough in 2010. However 2011 was his biggest year yet when he grabbed a couple of No 1 hits (one produced by Nero) and this album debuted at No 1, it’s already outsold sales of his first two albums combined. q28e-Z9TAdU&ob=av2e
February 8, 201213 yr Author 93. GLEE- THE MUSIC- SEASON ONE VOLUME 2- Glee Cast (260,000) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/e4/Gleevol2.jpg RELEASED: 13:03:10 PEAK POSITION: 2 WKS ON CHART: 25 CHARTING TRACKS: TRUE COLOURS (35) LEAN ON ME (43) MY LIFE WOULD SUCK WITHOUT YOU (53) IMAGINE (57) YOUNG GIRL/ DON’T STAND SO CLOSE TO ME (62) It seems so long ago now when Glee were regular invaders to the pop charts. Its “promotion” from Channel 4 to satellite TV of course has been cited as the primary reason for the dip in popularity but just like “Fame” before it all such things have a limited timeframe. The second album from the cast failed by less than 1,700 copies to hit No 1 being denied by Lady Gaga’s “The Fame” in March 2010 and sales wise it was a case of diminishing returns for the series which still pumped out Volume 7 just before Xmas last year without much notice. February 8, 201213 yr Author 92. LAST NIGHT ON EARTH- Noah & The Whale (260,400) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/71/Last_Night_on_Earth.jpg RELEASED: 06:03:11 PEAK POSITION: 8 WKS ON CHART: 39 CHARTING TRACKS: L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N (14) TONIGHT’S THE KIND OF NIGHT (67) A return to form after a disappointing second album sees Noah & The Whale achieve very respectable sales off the back of the successful single “L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N” which became only their second top 40 single. Part time member Laura Marling left pre success and of course charted separately with her output on her way to BRIT nominations. Eti85VFcSL4
February 8, 201213 yr A return to form after a disappointing second album Only in the sense of sales. Their three albums on Metacritic have gone 60-71-67, "The First Days of Spring" got some amazing reviews.
February 8, 201213 yr I KNOW WHO IS NUMEBR ONE BUT I DON'T TELL BECAUSE I KNOW YOU WILL NOT LIKE IT AND I WANT YOU TO LIKE ME BECAUSE YOU ARE MY FRIENDS
February 8, 201213 yr I KNOW WHO IS NUMEBR ONE BUT I DON'T TELL BECAUSE I KNOW YOU WILL NOT LIKE IT AND I WANT YOU TO LIKE ME BECAUSE YOU ARE MY FRIENDS We ALL know who number one is :P
February 8, 201213 yr Only in the sense of sales. Their three albums on Metacritic have gone 60-71-67, "The First Days of Spring" got some amazing reviews. It's by far their best album, but in comparison to their third there was nothing on it that was going to sell. It's an uncommercial, personal break-up album Charlie Fink wrote after he split up with Laura.
February 9, 201213 yr I'm certain of one (seeing as that album is also the 21st centurys best seller already). 99% Certain of two. For the rest Id have to look up the figures...but I'll wait and read this thread as they come in instead.
February 9, 201213 yr Author 91. JASON DERULO- Jason Derulo (260,500) http://cdn.idolator.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/derulo-cover.jpg RELEASED: 28:02:10 PEAK POSITION: 8 WKS ON CHART: 31 CHARTING SINGLES: IN MY HEAD (1) RIDIN SOLO (2) WHAT IF (12) WHATCHA SAY (21) THE SKY’S THE LIMIT (68) The debut set for Derulo established him as one of the bright new things back in 2010 with a string of song singles that did very well for him indeed. A knack of picking good tracks to sample proved fruitful as first hit “Whatcha Say” sampled Imogen Heap’s “Hide & Seek” , “Ridin Solo” originally sampled the Verve’s “Bittersweet Symphony” but the sample was blocked pre release, and “The Sky’s The Limit” sampled 80s hit “Flashdance”. A second album in 2011 has yet to prove as successful for Derulo though did deliver a second chart topping single with “Don’t Wanna Go Home”. 4qQCx9mxV9g&ob=av2n
February 9, 201213 yr Author 90. NOTHING BUT THE BEAT- David Guetta (261,700) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/22/DavidGuetta-NothingbuttheBeat-Cover.jpg RELEASED: 28:08:11 PEAK POSITION: 2 WKS ON CHART: 18 CHARTING TRACKS: WHERE THEM GIRLS AT? (3) LITTLE BAD GIRL (4) SWEAT (4) WITHOUT YOU (6) TITANIUM (16) TURN ME ON (20) NIGHT OF YOUR LIFE (35) Drip feeding tracks almost weekly pre the release of this album, Guetta clogged up the charts back in August with hit after hit from this album, a double disc extravaganza aimed firmly at the dancefloor. The album features a myriad of collaborators including Taio Cruz, Sia, Flo Rida, Akon, Usher and Chris Brown to bring together the worlds of R N B and dance to make him France's biggest musical export in some time! p4kVWCSzfK4&ob=av2e
February 9, 201213 yr Author 89. NUMBER ONES- Michael Jackson (264,400) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/b3/MichaelsNumberOnes.JPG RELEASED: 18:11:03 PEAK POSITION: 16 WKS ON CHART: 38 CHARTING TRACKS: NONE TOTAL SALES: 2,093,400 One of those albums that keeps selling very nicely under the radar, Jackson’s “Number Ones” is comfortably the oldest album on this rundown dating back to 2003 when it pipped Busted to the top that November. It was re-ignited by Jackson’s death in 2009 but oddly, was not the album that benefitted most from that event, that being “The Essential” which made No 1 for 7 weeks, it is however the biggest selling album from him this decade to date. -owpIWQMd80&ob=av2e
