Whitney's Ultimate Collection up to #1 on iTunes albums and pushed up in price from £4.99 to £7.99 at some point in the last couple of hours, they don't miss any opportunity do they...

Reminiscent of when they put Back To Black back up to 99p within 24 hours of Amy's death, causing it to drop back out of the top 10.

I'm surprised "Saving All My Love For You" is so far down, particularly when "Million Dollar Bill" and "My Love Is Your Love" are above it. Pleasantly surprised though at "All At Once"

Could this be to make it eligible to chart? I thought any album under a fiver was condemned to "budget chart"

Nooooo. :( Kelly deserves more than just three weeks top ten (with a #8 peak). :o

BTW off topic but can someone help me? I'm trying to buy 'Next To Me' on iTunes and I keep getting a "due to a problem with the iTunes store your store credit balance is currently unavailable for purchasing music" message even though my credit card has cash in it? :S

I got that message when trying to buy Forget About Yesterday by Daniela Brooker.

I asked earlier, but got no reply. Anyone know if that song's in the Top 1000 at all?

It looks like iTunes have a problem, and not your credit card. I would say wait some hours and try again later ;)

If the problems doesn't disappear, contact Apple imo.

Yeah, I think I read someone (vidcapper, maybe?) saying earlier that Whitney was charting in the budget chart last week. Maybe that could be the reason. Although they could've just increaesd it by a penny.

I'm not sure on the ins and outs of rules like that but certainly there are a lot of albums currently charting that are or have been available for £4.99 or under on iTunes (and often less than that on Amazon). Steps' Ultimate Collection was just £3.99 for weeks after Xmas on iTunes but continued to chart. Perhaps for digital downloads there are different price rules to physicals? Does anybody know for sure out of interest?

I don't know what the price cutoff is but AFAIA an album is considered budget if the dealer price (i.e. the distributor selling it to the shops, as opposed to the retail price i.e. the shops selling it to people) is under a certain figure. How much the shops charge for it is irrelevant. And I don't think download sales can ever be considered 'budget' although I may be wrong about that. Whether it can chart or not depends on if they increase the dealer price.

OK, thanks. :)

Hoping 1D can scrape Top 10, or even Top 15, but it's looking unlikely.

I saw her supporting The Saturdays at the SECC in December. She had a pretty good voice but her material was quite average.

well quite a lots happened since I last came on here! very shocking and sad to hear about Whitney :( :o she was never really my cup of tea musically, but I really hope I Will Always Love You re-enters the top 10 this week, it will always mean something to me as it was number 1 on the day I was born

on the other two releases, I thought being 59p would help Emeli more, but DJ Fresh seems to be thrashing her atm! I still think it will be very front-loaded, but it will be a pretty good number 1

Ah well, I just downloaded Whitney's The Greatest Hits album on Amazon, a much more complete tracklist than The Ultimate Collection, and it includes all of my favourites (and all for £5.49). So call me one of those sheep that only buy into artists after their death if you want but it would be untrue, this is the first time I've ever done anything like this - the constant news coverage has made me realise just how many excellent songs were missing from my music collection. In the cases of Amy and Michael, I already owned the majority of their back catalogue.

I love One Moment In Time! My favourite Whitney song! I wish it was above I Will Always Love You! (Which is also amazing).

Hopefully Jennifer Hudson performs it for the Grammys tribute performance.

Yeah, that's how I heard of her. She's by no means the best artist ever, but she's got some decent songs and a great voice. :)

I already have all Whitney's albums and her latest Greatest Hits (the budget one), so I don't have to be a sheep :P I probably won't buy the inevitable unfinished scraps they will call a poshthumous album, it'll end up ruining her legacy :(

All I owned was the My Love Is Your Love album...granted it houses most of my absolute favourites of hers though, it was such a great era!

That's good that Jennifer Hudson is doing the tribute. She's really probably the best to do it. Either her, or Mariah Carey.
