I suppose it'd be nice to have a year like 2010 again (6th), it's unlikely though. ^_^

So all shall be continuing as normal as we head towards the big 5-0.

Police? :o

Smack Me  What a song. BJSC owes a substantial debt to it.

It's the first contest where I took my entry choosing seriously. Delta was an obvious starting point, being by far my favourite song at the time (and for six years in fact), the Natasha Bedingfield US only album track was something I'd been loving a year ago previously and thought it might be nice for people to hear, Andreas Johnson was to try and bag my first top ten - it worked! A male act with a face worthy of 100 punches gave me an opening BJSC top ten, over two acts who had artist forums here!?! I'll put it down to Glorious being my least inspired entry ever and getting the early Kylienips/Simondly/most of us at some point memorial 'oh I recognise and like this incredibly famous song' vote. Love Song was something that I'd been loving for months and should have sent to the second contest. And then after winning and knowing that it was my first turn to host, I turned my attention fully to that and didn't put as much effort into choosing a song as I should have done, so just went with an album track from one of my favourite albums at the time - Sibel's Make Believe.

It was in May 2008 when I heard Smack Me, thought, 'wow, this is the sort of thing I *should* start sending, complete unknowns with killer songs'. Of course, I haven't always stuck to this, it's hard to argue a case for Maria Haukaas Storeng, Lena/Ellie (although the 'inspired' part for that is that I made the 'duet' myself), Lykke Li and Sheelah (the 2nd time) as being complete unknowns, but most of the time I still endeavour to send obscure acts that have never appeared in the contest before. And it was at that point that I felt compelled that everyone should hear Smack Me right away and suggested pulling the next contest forward from an indefinite date in the future to asap

But yeah, from Smack Me onwards I genuinely started making sure that my entries were 'inspired' and from VI through to the present day, nearly four years and almost 40 contests later, I've only had five 'flops' - Thermostatic's Driving, Mira's Headhunted, Vincent's Miss Blue, Example's Watch The Sun Come Up and Adaline's Whiter/Straighter. All of these were 'inspired' too, they just obviously didn't click with people, but I don't regret any of them!

First time top 5 overall

Seeing as it's the first contest of the year however, this will clearly change :P

This year hopefully I can finish in the top half of the scoreboard in a contest. :D Out of my 3 times doing this, the one time I did qualify - I came 25th  (out of 28) I know I came 2nd in the rejects contest but that doesn't really count :P
I'll be happy if I appear in the top 30 again at the end of the year. Everything else is a bonus. :)

REALLY REALLY REALLY looking forward to this update.

All 5 of those flops are incredible and save for Thermostatic picked up top3's in Ashton's voting.

I didn't start doing some thing like this properly until the 12th/13th contest after a brief flirtation with it for VII. Could this finally be the year FSR Ashvia dominate?

The year Ashton dominate perhaps, I haven't got a CLUE what to send to the next contest :drama:

Neither do I. I've found plenty of songs that I would have sent pre-Luciana but aside from that one track nothing that really fits in quality wise with post-Luciana Ashton.

The second contest of 2012 is completed. Seven countries debut within the top 30 this time and the competition gets even tougher overall as we see some new challengers approaching in every month! This year definitely seem to have some surprises in store, as the top three countries of 2011 is now OUT of it (FSR Rontvia almost DNQ'ed, Kopečka just seems to be flopping about and Ojnoj haven't even qualified yet!), Persephonia haven't been in the top 30 since 2010, while N-Lazone and Juranabaijan has never even been there once! So what else could really be in store for us this year? :o

Other important changes to the rankings:

- I has to be said. Ashton is currently #1! Congratulations! :D Like a country in love with its own placing, am I right? ^_^

- Due to winning their very first contest, Botanikka sees a colourful climb of 10 places!

- Tinnmark is the biggest climber as of now; climbing from 25th to 9th, which is 16 places up the scoreboard! Well that's a first; but some climb old I guess :P

- There are also climbs of 11 places from both Sangria and FYR Vojvodina-On-The-Wold who both høstet close to 100 points last time and are climbing simultaneosly and close to each other on the scoreboard. It doesn't seem so terribly dark to just miss out from that top 10 now, huh? :kink:

- Oh yes, let's not forget that Unovia DNQ'ed for the first time since XXXV, and as a result they fall 9 places down the scoreboard. Stand behind some GOOD music next time around, will ya? -_- (Naah, just kidding :heehee: I love that song  :( )

- That's it for now! So go on, go ahead, give us a comment on your placing! ^_^

Ashton is indeed feeling Like A Country In Love :heehee: First time Ashton has been #1 on this iirc. Now to keep this up until TBO|V...

Woo, not a dreadful fall as I'd feared. And I'm still nicely inside the top 15, so all is good so far. ^_^
Are u sure that Ria Ritchie collected only 59 votes in BJSC XLII?

Don't know where to look that up.

It did indeed get 59 points.

You could have looked it up in the Songs of Thread that's been there for years...
