Got 2 songs to choose from for the next one. One of them I don't really know if they're that unknown and the other only has 300 plays on last.fm so definitely is.

I started when I saw you weren't likely to be on for a while, just the occasional vote put in here and there. I only did it because I wanted to update the overall stats!

I really would have liked to have done it but realistically things were not going my way with this one so your intervention is much appreciated.

I now own a spreadsheet y'all, huzzah.

I think I have my next entry too. I love it but I can't see it doing very well at all but after a 33rd I can't get much worse!

I'm wondering about sending my original choice for this to the next contest. It would still be eligible, apart from the fact that it's just been sent (by someone else) to BJSC. But I do love it :wub:

01 There is no rule with regard to genre or length.

02 The artist or band of your choice must not have reached the top 40 singles chart in the UK.

03 The artist or band of your choice must not have reached the top 20 albums chart in the UK.


04 The song must not be on the current UK release schedule.

05 To enter the competition you must send an MP3 by PM and also include a link to the song on (preferably) YouTube, Vimeo, or Soundcloud.

06 The MP3 must be either 256 or 320kbps please, 128, 64, 32, 16 or 8kbps would do shockingly poorly so there’s really no need to bother with them.

07 You must not choose a song that has been previously entered (full list below).


08 Songs from the same artist will not be allowed to participate in the contest simultaneously. Also, songs by acts who featured in the last contest will not be accepted. If two people choose the same act, the one who submitted their entry first will be allowed to enter the act.

09 You must not reveal or even hint at which song you have sent. Part of the fun is not knowing who sent what so please do stick to this one.


10 I reserve the right to refuse an entry if I feel it does not fit within the spirit of the competition.

I mean in terms of x ft. y, if y breaks those rules but isn't the main artist.

I'm pretty sure any artist that has had a hit wouldn't be allowed even if they were a featured artist but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Question is whether entering a cover of a well known song is allowed, given the artist is unknown and the cover differs dramatically from the original version (ie. pretty much new song, same lyrics)

There are lots of grey lines. There are plenty of well known artists that haven't had a top 40 single or a top 20 album (Crystal Castles? Animal Collective?), and there are plenty of minor hits that have since been forgotten. I think it should be at the host's discretion as to which songs are eligible.

When does people want the next UP to start? As.. I'm still contemplating whether I am well suited enough to host this contest. Well naturally I know how to host, but I'm not familiar with this part of the forum at all and I'm not that 'indie music competent' to know what would be eligible/accepted as entries. I also don't know of/know that many members in here to write interesting comments and sorts. So my way of hosting this could well get pretty boring, ignorant and/or uninteresting :drama: :unsure:
