I don't understand the relevance of this...

I think the point is that it looked to be a hyped hit that would fall away quickly after being at #1 but ended up being a fairly big seller regardless. Tbh, No Regrets didn't do that badly either, but I don't think this one will be the same. I haven't heard Rockstar yet, but it'll probably be a Changed The Way You Kiss Me vs Stay Awake situation.

There are exceptions to every rule, some songs will be massive hits regardless of how they were released, the likes of One Direction, The Wanted, Adele, Example (change) would still have been huge if they'd released OA/OS because they were good songs which showed longevity, whereas some only become big/top 3 because they've been held back for so long.

 6. Rockstar (feat. Brian May) - Dappy

 25. Ray Charles - Choddy Bang

 32. Skyscraper - Demi Lovato

Dappy is really far behind #1, there's still a very high probability he won't get there IMO.

Can someone please explain what's so special about this track by Madeon? Not saying it's bad, I just watched the video on YouTube out of curiosity and it's basically 'Me & You' by Nero without vocals - and a different melody. :P

Actually I disagree with that. 'Me And You' is a dubstep tune and 'Icarus' is an electro-house tune. I am so excited for it's sucess, it's epic from start to finish

Dappy and Demi Lovato should swap places -_-

Yeah, that's what I meant. I should've explained myself more tbh.

Some of the very people whinging right now said that What Makes You Beautiful would be a non-#1. And now it's a worldwide smash!!

I know I'm a very repetitive poster myself, so I feel a bit hypocritical complaining, but we have been having this same discussion most weeks since last summer. Go move to the US if you want everything on air, on sale, and enjoy hearing Rack City and Glad You Came (oh, another song that was supposed to fall out of the UK top 40 in 6 weeks :kink:) on the radio all day. On air, on sale won't bring rock music back and it won't stop One Direction and The Wanted getting chart hits, and will actually INCREASE their sales if anything.

Remember She Makes Me Wanna was #1 on iTunes almost 3 weeks after it was released? Remember Swagger Jagger only fell to #3 on its 2nd week? As I whined about a few weeks ago, I'm fed up of the constant negativity whenever UK male artists like Dappy, Rizzle Kicks, One Direction, etc. are high up the charts.

We really need more females to join this forum so we can actually have some positivity in weeks like these.

For the record, I'm not actually against on air, on sale. The type of songs I like are usually on air, on sale and have massive chart runs (if they ever actually become hits ) anyway.

I think if he's not #1 by midnight, he won't make it officially. The pop bars of new releases don't often increase that much on the Monday, even if it's a 48 hour chart.

That is the first Eric Blob post in a while that has actually made some sense! Good job! :D

I only get annoyed with it if it's denying a genuinely bigger hit from ever reaching #1 (like Moves Like Jagger) and at that it's only when I prefer the big #2 seller to the #1. I'm not a big fan of Rockstar but seeing as Gotye as already made #1, I don't really mind if Rockstar gets to #1.

I have to admit I partly agree with Eric on this one, most of the held back number 1s last year sold at least decently, and so deserved their position in that respect. The only ones of that sort I would describe as not really number 1 worthy considering overall sales/weeks in chart would be Swagger Jagger, Promises, Stay Awake & Loca People (and I like all of those to some extent :P )

THIS! Demi!

I agree, im a massive fan of OA/OS especially if the song is in demand NOW(having kareoke versions in itunes etc) and its annoying when long runners have to make way for massive first week entries then the new entries fall to no3/4 after one week - it just seems ridiculous.

Of course tho as eric said above there will always be exceptions to the rule with built up demand releases like WMYB, which is just a great pop song and the type of group 1D are they can get lots of tv exposure for a while after to prolong their chart story!!

I want it to be a big hit partially for the fact it'd be the first properly big instrumental hit for over 2 and a half years, just to prove that instrumentals can still sell (if it even gets as high as #31 then it's the highest peaking full instrumental since 'Poppiholla').

Aside from that, it's not the best song ever, but I do still really like it. I sort of get the Nero comparison but then I'm a big fan of Nero so... :P There's nothing 'special' in PARTICULAR about it but that doesn't mean it's not really good.

It's not climbing very fast though :( Top version has stalled at #22, second version up to #147.

I think it'd be highly ironic if Dappy shot to #1 then fell away again quickly given the fate of the other "Rock Star". Would still rather see Gotye up there though.

Fingers crossed we don't see Dappy at #1 next week. I really falls short quality-wise when compared to 'No Regrets' - should still comfortably debut within the top 5.

Great to see Madeon set for a top 40 debut though - had forgotten about its release until now, but such a great instrumental track, hope to hear more from him.

If I Die Young is out? :o That's nearly 2 years late, and we thought we had to wait for Demi! Bit early though, I knew IIDY was getting a UK push but it thought it was in a month or so and airplay could build before then.
