In what way?

Well I guess it wasn't meant to be racist but it could be taken that way. Not a nice thing to say either way though, no matter if he likes her or not.

Alexandra was always going to be snubbed based on the past with her getting snubbed before. I'm not sure if they will start snubbing JLS in the future but I didn't expect them to start with a charity single (that they premiered?) so no surprise that 'Proud' is on really, same for Katy & Nicki.

Racist?! Seriously?!
I doubt he meant it in a racist way (just a bad choice of words for him to use ). He probably just meant it like "her career is finished, and rightly so, since she never deserved one in the first place".

It might not be racist, but its certainly disrespectful. He's not talking about her music, he's talking about her background, totally uncalled for.
Nothing unexpected on the playlist this week, I was more excited to see The Band Perry's If I Die Young added to the Radio 2 playlist :cheer:

Seriously? I swear that song has been around well over a year now.

I heard it in the background of Coronation Street a couple of days ago

Verging on two I think, it's finally getting a UK push :D

Ergh, another minor country-pop hit on the way then :(

I shouldn't really judge it I suppose but I can literally think of ONE country song that I can stand listening to (9 To 5 by Dolly Parton).

In terms of Alexandra Burke, I do wish Elephant would get playlisted. I'm not an Alexandra loon and can see she's had both good (All Night Long, The Silence) and bad (Broken Heels, Start Without You) songs but it's different to her previous material.

I think I recall Reggie or Scott saying something like, we liked this one! *plays snippet of All Night Long* [they didn't playlist it anyway] and we liked this one a lot less *plays snippet of Start Without You*.

Obviously he is entitled to an opinion but I don't think it was necessary broadcasting it to Radio 1 listeners. I mean, there are worse singers out there, at least she actually proved her talent on the X Factor because that was a year with lots of talent. Elephant is different to what we're used to but I don't know about anyone else, I'd rather she tried new things than went down the same route again. It's just unfortunate that not everyone thinks it's worked out for her!

Bad Girls is growing on me too! Glad to see Talk That Talk on the B list so quickly!

B!tches >:( why do they snubb elephant?

I think they hate X Factor artists.

Marcus Collins version of Seven Nation Army is not here too. :(

nicki, katy and azealia added. all in all a good week. :D

Cannot believe they haven't playlisted British artists Cher Lloyd - Want You Back and Alex B - Elephant. Yet they playlist Generic Crap like Starships and "Part of me" . Granted Cher and Alex aren't the best but they are definately worthy of being playlisted of the two i mentioned :P

They should be getting behind more British pop stars. Cher could be huge if promoted well. Her album has lots of HITS. But if Radio1 snub her then i guess this won't be the case. Alexandra doesn't need support to get a hit though.

How can they possibly playlist Nig*as in Paris? Has anyone heard it on the Radio yet? Is it full of blanks? Crikey. Next they will probably playlist RACK CITY.

Has anyone a link of the Tom Deakin remark - surely there would have been more complaints publicity if he had said this - whats the context?

There were complaints, Melissa Bell, Alexs mother went ballistic and R1 had to get intouch with her and I assume apologise.

It is laughable how they ignore Alex's songs yet some of their DJs still feel the need to have digs at her-pathetic.

The Tom Deacon thing does seem to have been absent from the media strangely, but I found other places where people discussed it:

Judging by those, a lot of people have made complaints.

This is exactlty what I don't get. Starships, as you said, is very, very generic, yet they've playlisted it. The "generic" reason they give for not playlisting Alexandra and Enrique doesn't make sense, since they've been playing Kiss the Stars, Domino, Last Friday Night, Troublemaker. And I'm sure if Alexandra released Boom Boom Pow, they still wouldn't playlist her to be honest, so I think they just don't like her as a person/artist for some reason.

I've heard Niggas in Paris a lot on the radio, since a lot of urban stations have been playing it since last year. There is quite a lot of blanks, since they blank the word "shit" which is used a lot.

I really hope they do playlist Rack City. It's doing incredibly well already from almost no support from any of the big radio stations!!!! I think it might be spreading a lot from word of mouth. The radio edit of Rack City does like Sexy Chick, where the word "bitch" is replaced with "chick" all the way through (if they blanked it out, it would practically just be an instrumental track ).
