Greg James, Gemma Cairney and Jameela Jamil have secured new shows on BBC Radio 1 in a raft of schedule changes on the station and its sister station 1Xtra, controller Ben Cooper announced today.

From Monday April 2, Greg James will move to weekdays 4-7pm, swapping places with Scott Mills who also gets a new show, moving to weekdays 1-4pm and Gemma Cairney will be taking over the weekend breakfast show 7-10am, moving over from sister station, 1Xtra where she has been presenting the afternoon show since January 2011.

James said: "My dream job just keeps getting better and better. I can’t wait to get going with the new show!"

Cairney said: "I arrived at 1Xtra just over three years ago a wide eyed puppy & soon became obsessed with all things radio. It will be really emotional, but I'm only moving downstairs to Radio 1 and I can't wait for all the new fun it'll bring."

Brand new signing Jameela Jamil will be joining the station to host the Radio 1 Request Show which will be now broadcast on Sunday’s from 7-9pm. She said: "To say I'm excited is a major understatement - being offered the opportunity to join the Radio 1 family is literally a dream come true and I can’t wait to slip on the headphones."

Edith Bowman moves to a midweek slot, becoming the host of Radio 1’s Review Show on Tuesdays, 9-10pm, where each week she will host a guest panel who will discuss the latest new music releases.

In addition, Danny Howard, aged 24, from Blackpool - who was discovered through a Radio 1 talent search and opened the Radio 1 Ibiza Weekend in 2011 - has landed a brand new show every Saturday 4-7pm, which will be called R1’s Dance Anthems with Danny Howard.

Specialist music strand, In New DJ’s We Trust, will also get a new line up with DJ’s B-Traits, Mosca, Jordan and Julio Bashmore hosting shows on a four weekly rotation. Jaymo and Andy George will be leaving the roster but will remain part of the of Radio 1 family, covering for DJs such as Annie Nightingale and Pete Tong.

There will also be some changes to the 1Xtra schedule. Sarah-Jane Crawford, currently hosting weekends 1-4pm will move to take over the weekday 1-4pm show, and a new addition to the network will be Adele who will take over from Sarah-Jane and present the weekend 1-4pm show.

On the changes to the schedule Ben Cooper said: "These are exciting times at Radio 1 & 1Xtra. The latest changes are about attracting even more young listeners by bringing in new and fresh talent to the stations. At the end of last year we announced changes to the specialist music line-up, so I’m really looking forward to hearing the new line up in full when we launch in April."

The new schedule will come into effect from Monday April 2, 2012.

Gemma Cairney and Jameela Jamil make me want to listen to Fearne Cotton 24/7, how they appeal to anyone is beyond me.

It's all just to make James ready to eventually take over from Moyles in a couple of years.

Jameela Jamil on Sunday 7-9pm (that girl from T4 I believe)? :o

At least the Request Show will be back though, I wasn't happy when it was gone late last year. Though, goodbye, 'fun' Sunday night shows (Tom Deacon specifically). LOL

Dunno why Greg and Scott will swap. Probably because 1-4pm have more audience/listeners than in 4-7pm.

And the chart show will be the same. I guess. :P

You'll never lose Reggie. With the new Video Top 10, just launched on the top 40, there's no way it's time up. Despite the big mistake (last Sunday) when they put a caption up, before the top 10, telling the #1 an hour early! That's the way to launch a new idea...mess it up, the first week! Personally, can't understand why they aren't bothered that Big Top 40's audience is now larger than ever, with Radio One's 40 dropping below 1 million listeners & losing over 2 million (overall) listeners in 10 years. The equivalent figures for Big Top 40 only show, a 0.3 million lost to it's own equivalent (The Pepsi Chart) in 2002.
I prefer Scott Mills doing the top40 than reggie. He just seems more natural at it and less crap talk.
Scott Mills will not even be on Radio 1 in a couple of years time. Being demoted from the late afternoon slot, to the early afternoon slot means he will probably be shifted eventually to weekends, and then axed. I always thought he would take over Moyles on breakfast, but I guess Greg James will do that now. Although obviously dependant on how his figures are on the late afternoon slot.

That's the way they do it. Wouldn't be surprised to see Mills on Radio 2, before long. Well he does a lot on Eurovision, these days & Ken Bruce maybe on his way out on 2, as he fast approaches retirement.

Shocking stuff. Obviously, Mr Yates will be put out at some point. Top tip for his replacement has to be Dev. Mainly, because I know the way the BBC work today.

I can see Scott Mills moving into the Steve Wright 2-5pm weekday slot and Steve Wright taking over from Ken Bruce in the mornings, I don't like Scott Mills full stop and I think he's not for the morning slot on Radio2.

Will be a while yet before he moves on. Like you say, the BBC are predictable with these changes. I'm surprised Moyles has lasted as long as he has to be honest, it can't be too far away before he has 10 years on the Breakfast show?

Greg and Scott swapping over is an odd choice. I agree with everyone else that it looks like they're trying to phase out Scott.

And is that Edith's slot being demoted again? :drama:

I assume that's not THE Adele who's becoming a 1Xtra DJ...

That's crap. I like Scott's show but I don't get home from work til about 4 so I won't be able to listen. Don't mind Greg but I still think Scott is the best DJ at the moment. I wish Moyles would go. The last few mornings, I've felt the breakfast show has been awful. They've never played music but now the feature count is down to so we just hear him blab on about his life which isn't interesting. Of course Reggie needs to go too but I've given up on that ever happening.

Pleased that Jameela Jamil is now on Radio 1 - I enjoy watching her on T4 and Freshly Squeezed.

Though don't mention "Playing it Straight" which finished last week on E4.

It's not that they're phasing Scott out, they're making sure Greg is ready to take over from Moyles, probably at the beginning of 2014 when his current contract runs out and he'll have done the show for a decade. By giving him the second biggest show now he'll then be ready to take on the biggest.

There's no way Scott would be his replacement because he's even older than Moyles is!

Which is surprising since Moyles has looked about 50 for the last 7 years.

 Definitely a face for radio.

I guess that makes sense.

I'm not happy about it at all though, Scott Mills is my favourite DJ on the station and they are demoting him even though he doesn't seem to have done anything wrong. I don't mind Greg but he's nothing on Scott. That Jameela is rubbish too. Will give it all a go but I'm finding the sound of Capital more and more appealing.
