As soon as the X Factor tour finishes it looks like Janet will definitely be signing a record contract! :cheer:

From Popjustice Forums:

She did say in a Twitcam that she is choosing which contract to sign. So she's definitely getting a contract.

Can't wait to hear her own material! :D

I do hope this is true, I think she was treated badly on X Factor and had so much more potential (I may sound like a loon saying that and I'm aware she wasn't the strongest vocalist, but frankly some of her mentor's song choices were shocking)

I can't see this being much of a success either way, but I'm intrigued to hear her material if true...

yeah I think that the show really just tried to make her seem as poor as possible, particularly towards the end with some very bad song choices.

I'm sure everyone already knows my feelings on her, she was my favourite contestant of the last series. I'm not expecting a diana-esque album at all though. I'm more expecting something acoustic, something in vain of birdy/christina perri, although I do hope that she doesn't release a cover album/debut single.

*awaits the haters*

Oh dear, who's letting this happen? Well, at least she'll be able to read the words whilst she's recording so she won't forget but she'll have to stop the thing she does where she goes mute halfway through syllables.
I enjoy her cutting off towards the end of half her words. It makes her """""quirky""""" and so gives her stans something to use as a way to explain her supposed amazingness and I don't know, it's just nice to my ears. I'm not sure what to expect from this at all though. I can't see her not releasing a samey, bland balladfest. Maybe she'll see sense and make a second rate Ellie Goulding record. I might enjoy that.
Not sure whether to be excited for this or not... I loved her for the first few weeks of X-Factor live shows, but then she got SO dull, boring and overrated and for the end few weeks of her stint I was wishing she would just lose her voice and drop out, I couldn't stand her
I'm more worried about the fact that more than one person wants to sign her :|
I need a cover of 212. Just IMAGINE it.

I loved her at the start of XF, she seemed so humble and shy with a great voice.

BUT then she goes on the live shows, gets well deserved negative feedback for forgetting her words a few times etc and then she went all funny with the public and dermot like 'i dont care what you think' and 'whatever' attitudes which didnt suit her and made her out to be a stropy child. Thats why she didnt win the competition in the first place even though she led the votes for the first 5 or 6 weeks. Then she leaves the XF and slates it for ruining her when she is playing concerts over the country with the XF and after it actually gave her the chance to be famous in the first place.

CANNOT stand people like her and its a real shame as i liked her voice.

but in reality, it really did screw her up. I'm not just saying that because I'm her token stan, but when it came to the later stages of the live shows she kept being given the death slot, poor song choices and hardly took any risks. the song choices given to her were mostly either predictable or completely incompatible with her style.

also I fail to see what was so stroppy about her, she's just not afraid to say how she feels in a mature manner. it's hardly like she behaved like cher lloyd when she was on the live shows...

I understand where you're coming from but there are no deathslots, if you are good enough and the public take to you then you will get through. Towards the end kf the show she chose most of her own songs anyways but seemed half hearted in performing them.

Cher Lloyd was marmite. I didnt take to her at all as a person but she had a great voice, an ok rap voice but had a big personality and commanded the stage. Janet had the voice but nothing else. And when things started going against her such as feedback or when the newspaper would say something about her she would get all funny whereas all the others would take the criticism and feedback on the chin and come back and deliver next week. Just watch her interviews on the Xtra Factor and with Dermot 3 or 4 weeks before she left. That shows her being very stroppy and awkward. No wonder she fell out with Kelly Rowland.

That is such shit. Anyone with half a brain knows that the earlier on you are the more difficult it is to get votes. She was early every single week. The public did take to her, that's why she got through every single week without a problem until the one week where she majorly f***ed up and the death slot (combined with bad song choices gradually leading to an erosion of her fanbase) knocked her out. People quite obviously liked her if they put her top for what... 6 weeks?

I'm not a stan AT ALL but I totally agree with you. That really did just throw her under a bus, every week she was on early and had literally the dullest songs/arrangements possible (Kiss Me aside) - Somebody To Love in particular was just awful. Then when she did get something uptempo, it was songs that totally didn't suit her voice (Mmmbop and I Want You Back) and ruined her. Mmmbop especially was just a total cold mess, nothing went right in that performance...

But when she was good, she was great! Fix You

exactly. I'd like to pretend that 'mmmbop' never happened because it was just a complete shambles and nailed it in the coffin for her. it was obvious to pretty much everyone, even her fans that it wouldn't work. :(

on the other hand, 'fix you' was the performance of the series. stunning.

I loved Janet to bits, I supported her right to the end, and I still am now. I loved her first three performances especially, they're actually in my Top 20 songs on last.fm. :P Kiss Me was the only amazing performance from then on. Every Breathe You Take, Somebody To Love and Under The Bridge were good, but not as good, I Want You Back was OK and MMMBop, well, let's forget about that... :(

But yeah, I agree with all your points regarding the death slot aswell.

Oii! Steady on with the rudeness please! :nono: She messed up on a number of weeks and then her attitude towards the competition became more apparent. Any one with half a brain as you so eloquently put is knows that is the best performance is at the start of the show or someone who connects with the public is first on then that does not guarantee they will be gone next week.

Ireland obviously played a part in her lasting that many weeks. She won the first 3 or 4 weeks by alot but then as I have said the public lost connection with her after some of her half hearted performances and cavalier interviews. Again she chose the last couple of weeks of her songs as she fell out with Kelly because she cannot take criticism. -_-

Fix you was very good though I must say, and Every breath was very chillingly and effective staged and performed. Just wish she didnt have that attitude :nocheer:

The way I decide if I like X Factor acts or not is if I can imagine I'd want to listen to an album of their material, and in Janet's case, I think I would, as long as she goes with a suitable style. I think her album might do okay but the single success will be underwhelming.
  • 1 month later...
I thought Janet was okay, she needs the right material and to be marketed well.
She has a fanbase (she owned the early weeks voting) but I can't see a place for her in the market. It's just gonna be Diana Vickers again.
