March 11, 201213 yr 'Satellite' continues to grow on me to this very day, and I never really disliked it! I still prefer 'Taken By A Stranger', though, I'm glad that got a solid reception despite it being the home entry. Should be easier to vote this time, a hell of a lot of flotsam around. My favourite is wonderful but still not up to the standard of most years.
March 11, 201213 yr It was a weak year where the winner trampled over everything else by a huge margin!
March 11, 201213 yr Didnt like the winner at all... Highlights go to France and Romania. Not a particularly good year
March 11, 201213 yr That guy making those recap videos has no taste. Germany and Azerbaijan outside the top 10?! Russia and Latvia higher than the incredible Eva Rivas?! righttttt....
March 11, 201213 yr Another Apricot fan here :kink: Eva was my 1st favourite when I did my rankings back in 2010!
March 11, 201213 yr Ok, 2010 was the first Eurovision that I watched. I don't know why, there must have been nothing else to do, but I'm glad I did (TESTIMONY ALERT), as I really enjoyed what I saw and converted me for life, although it took a year for it to come round again to remember it. Seriously, I didn't think it was too bad, if not that memorable. Thoughts (I'm trying to think back to my initial impressions of them): -Oh, what a performance to introduce me to Eurovision with! Safura was absolutely amazing, I remember that, and I was quite gutted when she didn't win (I didn't get Satellite on first listen AT ALL). It's stood the test of time too, quite comfortably my favourite Azerbaijani entry and probably my favourite Eurovision entry too. Drip Drop is absolutely sublime. And Safura was looking beautiful on the night, absolutely stunning. -Georgia and Armenia were both highlights of the night too, gave me a good impression for entries from the Caucasus, which to a large degree all 3 of them followed up the next year, so much so that I'm disappointed now when they send crap (I'm looking at you Anri). -Didn't think much of Spain, but I remember the stage invasion. Funny, if it just attracted attention to a dull song. -Belarus were rather lovely, see, this is how you do good entries, Belarus. Keep trying and you might end up like Ukraine (ha!) -While I knew nothing about ESC at the time, I had the distinct impression that Ireland always did well (I knew nothing of Dustin the Turkey then , must have been the commentary harking back to the 90s or something), so I was a little shocked but not sad that their basic ballad ended up near the bottom of the table, one of the more boring entries in the final. -Greece were the song that stood out most during the night, and in a good way. While in the long-term I've stuck with Safura more, the shock of something really quite amazing from the Giorgio Alkaios quarter was comfortably my favourite performance that night. Giving our 12 points to OPA was amazing. -Of all the feelings that came from watching my first Eurovision, the biggest disappointment was the true shitness of our entry. I remember being distinctly unimpressed by the performance, and while I didn't like seeing us finish last for patriotic reasons, I was wholly unsurprised. -Again, Turkey left a good impression on me, some wonderful rock, enough that I was quite surprised when they did seemingly nearly the same thing the next year and failed. But this was MUCH better than that, and I was pleased to see it finish second. I must have fallen asleep for the second half, because I don't remember a whole lot about any of the performances from that half aside from Eva Rivas and Lena, the latter only being that I saw she was onstage and forgot the song, and then wondered why it won. Satellite took a long time to grow on me too, I'd forgotten about it by the time of 2011, and it's only recently that I've really come to love it. There we go, now time to decide points. I must say, I didn't think about the absence of Sweden in the final at all. I just wasn't used to Eurovision (I'm not sure if I even remembered they had semis) so I wasn't aware of their particular pedigree.
March 11, 201213 yr LOVING that post Eyes! It's always a joy to see people reflect on their first proper Eurovision :D
March 11, 201213 yr I can't tell if you're serious or not  But I do have a soft spot for Oberkrainer Rock (the German version). Totally serious! I think it's great. It's one of the few 2010 songs I still listen to.
March 12, 201213 yr OMG. How have we made it to one and a half pages and not mentioned much about ROMANIA?! 'Playing With Fire' is seriously one of my favourite performances (and songs!) from any Eurovision! It's amazing. Hera Bjork is as good as ever! I definitely agree with Rich in that Tom Dice should have definitely finished higher! :( Another of my favourite songs from Eurovision. I only care enough about my top 6. But there wasn't much I found terrible in this year. I have now come round to appreciate 'Satellite' (although it's still hideously overrated :puke:) EDIT: Oh and I am still pissed that Norway decided to send Didrik over this!! 4xFEJOd8f68  Still play it frequently
March 12, 201213 yr Author Situation after 9 votes. No runaway winner so far :o In fact there are three songs primarily in contention. One of the songs got four 12's already, and another one - the same amount of 10's. Crrrrrrazy (not as crazy as nine 12's one song received in 2004 though :kink: ). There might be one of two guys in the Top 6! :o
March 12, 201213 yr Likes are so very few and far between, I can honestly say I "like" about 5 of 2010s entries... Germany - Didn't get the big fuss really, found her rather annoying, but won partly due to being such a piss poor contest! Saying that, I like it now! Albania - A very solid runner up in my votes, should've done a hell of a lot better! Azerbaijan - I put a fiver on this to win and snubbed Germany.... error. Not my thing as a general rule, but can appreciate it's a decent track. Iceland - An easy 12 points! Rather large lady in an outfit that can only be described as hideous, but this only added to its charm. OTT euro-pop with forced key-change... great! Lowlights... a lot! But I'll aim for the easy target. UK - Waterman... What-a-twat! Perhaps if it was 1988 and we were looking for a slightly inferior Rick Astley, this may have ended up on the left-hand side of the score board. But it was 2010 and this song was the most woeful piece of tosh sung by a tory boy. Edited March 12, 201213 yr by ScottyEm
March 12, 201213 yr I've voted!!! I can't believe I gave one country no points - I had 11 that I really wanted to give points too! Another great quality year imo :)
March 13, 201213 yr Portugal was incredbly lucky in qualifying. It still pains me to this day that the stupid jury placed Catarina Pereira so low.
March 13, 201213 yr Oh GOD, I forgot your passion for the generic-as Apricot Tits Nick :( It's up there with the sublime 'Always' in terms of generically ethno-pop sounding masterpieces <3. 2k10: As with the previous year, Azerbaijan and Armenia run away with it in terms of quality, (Armenia's 3rd year in succession in the top 2 for me :kink: Thank God Emmy stopped all of that 1-2-2, Azerbaijan have since bettered that with 1-1-2, although I'm starting to realise that my sheer love of that country may be blighting my judgement) 'Drip Drop' is one of the most polished songs I've ever seen in Eurovision (minus STAGING GRG) and Armenia took the reigns of generic ethno-pop from Hadise and AySel before them to bring us the incredibly political 'Apricot Stone'. 'Satellite' was a worth winner and really did a lot for the reputation of the contest. After these three the quality is a little thin; Finland were ROBBED of a spot in the final, a fine piece of folk music if ever there was one, same for Croatia, I would've almost bet my house on 'Lako je sve' coming top 15! (That said I did place a £20 bet with a friend that Safura would beat Lena.) Denmark had a horrendously cheesy song with an absolutely dire performance, although it still has a place in my heart. Similarly cheesy 'Je Ne Sais Quoi' will always be revered as well, although after these 7 beauties, I can't think of many songs I really liked that much :( Unlike 2009 where songs I was giving no points to would still be considered an 8/10. March 14, 201213 yr Author Portugal was incredbly lucky in qualifying. It still pains me to this day that the stupid jury placed Catarina Pereira so low. I wouldn't call FOURTH place in the Semifinal a result of LUCK :heehee:
March 14, 201213 yr I wouldn't call FOURTH place in the Semifinal a result of LUCK :heehee: The song was vastly improved after the NF performance, it was placed in the easier semifinal and had a good draw.
