Now Playing on BBC Radio 1: Alexandra Burke featuring Erick Morillo 'Elephant' - at last! Hopefully it may be a hint of them playlisting it tomorrow.

Seriously!? I was only expecting them to play it on the chart show and potentially request show. It is a positive sign. Pete Tong did do the first play on the Sympho Nympho mix. Fingers crossed Elephant can get some form of major radio support. The fact it isn't even in the radio top 50 and is doing this well is brilliant. You have got to give it to Alexandra, she works her ass off to get the results she wants.

No you were right I think! There are certain albums where digital sales are much higher than physical (Ke$ha's Animal had like 74% of it's sales from downloads) but in general iTunes doesn't mean much. Rumer hit #1 (and #2 I think?) but only peaked at like ~#50. Still, I expect 1D will be doing a decent amount of physicals too.

Alex does work really hard but I think she accepts that some people still view her as the X-factor girl who has had success handed to her on a plate. Alexs fans are also really loyal and supportive though.

I am shocked at R1 they really do hate her but fair play to them they have played Elephant a few times. :lol:

I hope Elephant can keep climbing.

I thought it was Wednesday for a second and was thinking "surely Alexandra is only getting played on the midweek chart update" but they really played it... :o

 

I doubt it will be playlisted though. -_-

SHM have slowed down a bit but hopefully they can get top 40 at least this week (allowing for the fact they missed out on Sunday sales).

 

Great decision to make Charlie Brown 59p, new peak this week hopefully :D Would be cool if it could outpeak Life In Technicolor ii.

 

'Wild Ones' back up to #4, knocking Emeli to #5. Wild Ones is destined to be #4 forever it seems :lol:

I'm surprised he even knows who Alex is, or even listens to music like that. :o :lol: He got her iTunes position wrong aswell. :drama:

 

It's funny that Radio 1 have probably given more support to Alexandra than Capital have with this song. :lol: Those stations don't only play their playlists anyway. I've heard Moves Like Jagger a few times on Radio 1 outside the chart show, and I haven't even been listening to Radio 1 that much lately anyway.

The charts have thrown up a LOT of surprises this year. I never thought I'd see Azealia Banks' "212" in the top 20 on iTunes :o :wub: :cheer: Also nice to see Jay-Z/Kanye just outside the top 10 as well as an OA/OS instrumental song with no hype selling on Swedish House Mafia's name alone! It's a good song but not something I'd expect to make the top 40.

 

Unfortunately we have a bad surprise too in the form of Jason Mraz getting another hit single :puke:

Bad Girls and (especially!) 212 are making me SO happy today! Exciting to see Niggas In Paris nearing the top 10 too - who'da thunk it?

I don't think the Jason Mraz thing is too much to worry about. It went to #1 on US iTunes with a big lead...and then he free-falled BIG TIME. :lol: He might do the same here (although not as dramatically obviously).

Gotye does need to go away, he sounds like he is singing a funeral song.

Why would anyone have anything against Jason Mraz, he has been getting solid support from the MOR stations so was always going to do well.

I hope the promo Alex did today is helping. Erick Morillo has Elephant twitter fever now as well.
