A new JLS single struggling to go top 5 on iTunes = :cheer: Thank the Lord. Even with EPs and physicals they shouldn't be any challenge to Katy!

You forgot Tesco Mary!!!

Is it bad I don't even remember her? :S Which series?

No don't worry, she's just one of the 'olders' that got kicked off about half way through in 2012 and has gone on to release an album every year around Mother's Day

I just remember Louis being obssessed by the fact that she worked in Tesco

I like climbers and a degree of stability at the top of the charts, with tracks that sell a decent amount. For me, that makes for a more 'deserving' no.1, something that has genuine popularity and not just been held back for weeks and has massive pent up demand for just one week, before rapidly disappearing. The charts are more interesting as a result.

But everybody is different as regards how they think the charts should look, mine is just an opinion of course and you know what they say about opinions :)

Lets make some comparisons then to support our cases - heres my first one -

What no1 single will be remembered longer -

Gotye or Cher Lloyd?

:P

It depends on who you ask, as Cher Lloyd fanatics will remember Swagger Jagger forever! :P

In general though more people will remember Gotye because more people have brought it, and will therefore listen to it.

Swagger Jagger is going to be remembered for a long time I think.

Like Crazy Frog. You might all think that song is awful, but nobody is ever going to forget it.

Tesco Mary = oldish fat Irish woman who sang big "belters" week in week out and was defeated by Cher Lloyd in a battle to the death in the semi final.

I agree. Not many people might have bought Swagger Jagger but I think people will certainly remember it! Sales aren't everything.

Really?

Even in 50 years time when we are all old and grey and our musical tastes have moved on to different things?! :P

Yeah, Friday by Rebecca Black is probably the best example of this. I think that song will be much more remembered in the future than, say, Titanium or Domino.

Yeah that's true. There's rarely a song that takes over the world like Friday did

Swagger Jagger was not worldwide, and so will only be remembered by a few people in the UK that really hated it. For most people it was just an annoying song on the radio, that they probably haven't thought about since (unlike Crazy Frog).

It's weird seeing Gotye down to #4! :o It has had it's time though tbf.

I don't see why that applies to Swagger Jagger but not to STIUTK. Yes I think Swagger Jagger will be remembered in a mini Crazy Frog way.

Swagger Jagger wasn't even played that much on the radio. It failed to make top 50 on the radio airplay chart!

That's another reason why Gotye's song will be so remembered. It's tailored for the radio. It's very radio friendly, so stations like Heart can play it for years. You're not going to hear Swagger Jagger (or Promises, Don't Go, etc.) on the radio in the future since they weren't made to be radio hits. Those songs didn't get a whole lot of airplay outside of Radio 1 and urban radio.

was the crazy frog song number 1? and if so for how long

Because imo STIUTK is a song that appeals to ALL ages whereas SJ only appeals to the younger fanbases!

Excuse me but I am 76 years old and Swagger Jagger was my year-end #1 last year.

That song had one of the best (or worst, depending on how you look at it) promotional campaigns I've ever seen. It was practically impossible to avoid for months.

On another note, on Twitter a while ago David Guetta said his next single is either going to be Crank It Up or I Can Only Imagine.

Whether Akon or Chris Brown/Lil Wayne, I don't imagine that'll be Buzzjack's cup of tea.

Song-wise, Crank It Up is MUCH better. And also I'd like to see Akon back in the chart. Chris Brown and Lil Wayne are having lots of hits (in the US) at the moment.

Also, Crank It Up sells more on iTunes:

563. Crank It Up

651. Night Of Your Life

652. Repeat

NOT IN THE TOP 1000. I Can Only Imagine

I think Turn Me On should be released in the UK, and Titanium in the US though, personally.

I agree with you there.
