Ugh. I was for once hoping they WOULDN'T do that. There goes Sean Paul's chance of #1, most likely a third week at #2 behind a third different #1 then...

In a Moves Like Jagger type fasion, then?

So now you'll know what it's like to have your favourite track stalled at no.2, thwarted week after week by a series of one-week non-entities :)

I don't agree with you. Video releases always push up the songs a lot. Part Of Me was a bit of an exception, not gaining from the video release significantly, although I have to say Part Of Me is not one of Katy's strongest songs imo. So it's stupid to compare Part Of Me's video release to Starships' while there were thousand other songs that had significant gaining after a video release!

Starships have still a lot of potential

Only if Captain Kirk s commanding it... :P

I thought the iTunes thread was going weekly and a new thread would be started on Sunday.

Oh yeah, just checked back, and your right, so the new thread is closed for now :D

I missed the conclusion of that thread.

Holy crap at these fake Call Me Maybe's!

Looks like it's on track to do well. When I heard it I fell in love instantly (and with her EP) but I assumed it would only be a moderate top 10 success with a short chart life. Looks I was wrong :D

I think Nicki Minaj will get #1 next week because she'll have three versions to boost her. (Single Version, Album Version + Now 81 Version) There is also the likelihood of the video being released very soon!

Call Me Maybe will fall short and get to #2!

Unless all three versions are substantially different remixes, they will just take sales from each other, with only a modest net increase in sales, and unless she's naked in the video :P , I can't see it making that much difference either.

Katy Perry did get a boost from the music video, I don't know why everybody says she didn't.

I can only think of a handful of songs that got a big boost from them. Most songs just get a small boost into the top 300 or top 1000, and then peak 1 or 2 months after the music video.

RedOne tweeted that the video for Starships is out next week, so she could knock Call Me Maybe off, if fun. don't release early.

Starships have still a lot of potential, it could do a We Found Love/Moves Like Jagger saleswise because it has a summery vibe, easymelody to singalong.

Perhaps Part of Me did gain from the video, and its "gain" was simply less of a dramatic fall then it may have otherwise experienced (see Chris Brown and his massive front loaded effect this week)

Wrong. Having other versions available whether it be via the artists own album or via a massive compilation album such as Now 81 always improVes sales dramatically as it results in increased advertising for the track inquestion on the homepage of iTunes.

Nicki won't have a version form Now 81! because "Starships" isnt on it

She didn't at all. Sean Paul never dipped below about 89% of Katy, in fact when her video came out Sean Paul started GAINING on her.

It isn't? Huh.

For some reason not. Probably saved for the next one :D

She did. Sean Paul was just about to overtake her, and then after the music video got released he fell back to like 90 per cent or something (i.e. Katy increased).

I hope Nicki doesn't get to #1 anyway. I love her, but that song is awful. I can't listen to it anymore, and it's a complete rip-off of Katy Perry/Britney Spears/Ke$ha. Carly Rae Jepsen's song should get it. Less generic and actually catchy.

But the main version is top 10, so on the iTunes homepage *anyway*...

I don't recall Sean Paul ever being 'just about to overtake her' while she was still #1, I think the closest he got was about 93% and that was *after* Katy's video premiere. (If only Kworb's archive of pop bars stretched back a bit further :P)
