December 29, 201212 yr 21 should never have overtaken Back to Black - let alone Thriller. :( It should never have overtaken Bad (my favourite MJ album), but congrats to her. The album's success is just phenomenal!
December 29, 201212 yr Crikey! Looking at those sales, maybe it'll go up to #2 next year sometime? :o
December 29, 201212 yr Queen have definitely sold a LOT more than 2k since March... they've had 10 weeks in the top 100 since then (including the last few weeks of high sales) and who knows how many more top 200 weeks.
December 29, 201212 yr To quote Will Young, I don't you can ever call that average! It says a lot that people are singing album tracks on things like the X Factor from 21 and people know them! Now that it has had time to settle in for a while I do think we can call it a 'classic' album now. I wouldn't say it is as culturally significant as What's The Story or Back To Black but you never sell THAT much unless it really is a phenomenon. There are albums like Back To Bedlam by James Blunt for example where it has songs like Goodbye My Lover and You're Beautiful where I see why they were liked by so many people but I listened to that entire album and most of the rest of it is a bit samey and there are no other standouts (don't like him myself anyway but you get my point) and that one was released in a higher sales climate as well!
December 29, 201212 yr How depressing. I'll join the 'never got Adele' group. There is no way 21 is the second best studio album ever.
December 29, 201212 yr On a different note i would love for Abba Gold to one day become the best selling album of all time in the UK.
December 29, 201212 yr Why are you all getting so upset over album sales? Sales have never equaled quality.
December 29, 201212 yr Maybe 21's not the fourth best album ever, but I think it deserves every sale. It's a really strong album (for me it plays like a greatest hits) and those sales represent just how omnipresent Adele was last year.
December 29, 201212 yr You know your in the charts forum, right? But people are somehow disappointed or upset that 21 has sold so much given that they dont particularly like it. I can only deduce that they are under the impression that quality sells or that sales are some barometer of merit. Maybe I'm just used to it at this stage. Edited December 29, 201212 yr by AnthonyT

No one thinks that quality sells, but people will assume 21 is amazing because of the sales. I'm not a fan of Adele, but everytime I talk about her, I get told 'she's sold this many albums, so you're just bitter' which is really grating to hear since it's not true.
December 29, 201212 yr people will assume 21 is amazing because of the sales They're stupid people. But you know that.
December 29, 201212 yr They're stupid people. But you know that. I do know that. But I still have to tolerate them :P
December 29, 201212 yr I do know that. But I still have to tolerate them :P A cross we all have to bear.
December 29, 201212 yr I still think in the long run this is heading for #1. Hope it gets there too, classic album and love every single song, which is hard for an album to achieve. Faultless. Shocking that this hasn't even gone on sale yet :o Isn't it selling full price still everywhere? Havent seen it on sale anywhere myself. Edited December 29, 201212 yr by Karma
December 29, 201212 yr I'm sick of people always going on about how terrible Adele's success is. I'm not one to slam someone else's opinion, but it really does get repetitive after a while. For the record, I don't think that Adele will get any higher on the all-time list until ABBA overtakes The Beatles.
December 29, 201212 yr Why are you all getting so upset over album sales? Sales have never equaled quality. I don't think anyone is upset. Just expressing an opinion as you do on forums......

For the record, I don't think that Adele will get any higher on the all-time list until ABBA overtakes The Beatles. But the constant plugging and praising of this album is fine? Not everyone likes the same thing and they have a right to say so. I don't understand the level of her success & this forum is about her so I've said so. I have similar opinions of many artists that sell well, Michael Buble for one but this thread is about Adele.

I'll try to stay on topic but BIB-you are always slamming opinions that aren't yours. I remember once you told us all to stop slagging off some XF auditionees even though you have no authority over our opinions. And there are just as many posts all over this board saying 'OMG Adele's success is amazing. Amazing. Haters can't deny it!' (as a side point, who has ever actually DENIED that Adele has been successful?) Some Adele praise simply goes OTT as well like I recall someone posting when she revealed her pregnancy something to the effect of 'if anyone deserves to be pregnant, it's Adele!'-I mean, really? ALL of that aside, we're entitled to our opinions on whether we think this album is good enough. We will state them. We will not be oppressed by the opinion police.
