April 2, 201214 yr Author Midweek Charts: Minaj in Pink with likely first UK chart-topper Source: MW 14:44 | Wednesday April 4, 2012 By Paul Williams Nicki Minaj is set to debut at the top of the UK artist albums chart this Sunday as one-time Canadian Idol contestant Carly Rae Jepsen heads to number one on singles. Minaj’s second Cash Money/Island album Pink Friday – Roman Reloaded heads a charge of four brand new albums leading the Official Charts Company’s Sales Flashes with Syco act Labrinth’s Electronic Earth currently in runner-up position, Sony’s Moshi Monsters album Music Rox third and Epic at Lostphrophets fourth with Weapon. The Minaj album had sold nearly 27,000 copies up to the end of business on Tuesday, a lead of more than 9,000 copies over Labrinth’s debut album, with Moshi Monsters and Lostphrophets both a few further thousand sales behind. Minaj’s first album Pink Friday peaked at 16 and has sold around 280,000 copies in the UK. While Minaj will likely top the artists albums chart this Sunday, she will not have the week’s biggest-selling album overall. That accolade will belong to EMI TV and UMTV’s newly-released Now! 81, which had sold 109,314 copies up to the end of Tuesday, four times as many copies as Minaj’s album. Minaj’s albums success comes as her single Starships heads for another week in the top five, presently standing in third place, the position it was on last Sunday’s chart. Ahead of it is Atlantic/VP act Sean Paul’s She Doesn’t Mind in second place and at number one the newly-issued Call Me Maybe by Interscope/Polydor’s Carly Jae Jepsen who finished third in the fifth season of Canadian Idol in 2007. The track has already reached number one in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The wave of new albums heading the market means last week’s leading pack are likely to face steep falls down the chart this weekend. They include Madonna’s Interscope/Polydor album MDNA, which debuted at one last Sunday but is the fifth biggest seller in the new chart week to date, while the runner-up then Nothing But The Beat by Positiva/Virgin’s David Guetta is now down to six and third-placed Our Version Of Events by Virgin act Emeli Sande seventh. Adele’s XL album 21 slips 4-8, Island/Lava’s Jessie J with Who You Are 5-9 and Asylum/Atlantic’s Ed Sheeran 8-10 with +. Besides the four new albums currently occupying the top four positions, there are another eight new releases showing up within the midweek Top 40. They take in new sets from Orbital through ACP Recordings, Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson with the EMI-issued Thick As A Brick 2, Parlophone’s Graham Coxon, Spinefarm’s Killing Joke, 14th Floor’s All the Young, Atlantic/VP’s Sean Paul, Hollywood/Polydor’s Demi Lovato and the Osmonds through their own Osmonds Entertainment label. Back on singles and, having topped the UK singles chart for the first time last weekend, RCA’s Chris Brown is now fighting to hold onto his place in the top five. Turn Up The Music is the week so far’s fifth top single, around 4,000 sales behind Island’s Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye featuring Kimbra in fourth place and about 1,700 sales ahead of the Virgin-issued Part Of Me by Katy Perry in sixth position. Currently just outside the Top 10 positions is Alex Day, formerly a member of the band’s Chameleon Circuit and Sons of Admirals and with a reported 500,000 followers of his own YouTube channel. April 3, 201214 yr Author Wow, top 4 new albums, didn't think Moshi Monsters would enter the top 40 chart. Lostprophets are going to fall towards the end of the top 10 by the end of the week, mind you they do have a bit of a lead sales wise, it could hang on top 5, only just. Thanks Nick.
April 3, 201214 yr Ooh, 20k-ish for Lostprophets should hold top 5! Nicki's looking at 50k, it's always odd to see someone shooting to no.1 with an album after their previous one missed the top 10 (see also Katy Perry).

Wow - I expected Madge to still be #1, as I couldn't imagine any of this weeks new releases being a threat... :wacko:
April 3, 201214 yr LMAO at Moshi Monsters outselling Madonna's 2nd week :lol: Being an album for kids it could even climb to #3 by the end of the week - after all, Justin Fletcher's album is holding up pretty well so far and they're not far behind Lostprophets. Good to see Labrinth cruising to #2 as expected, I didn't think he'd beat Minaj even after her first album only made #16. Will he ever get a #1 on either chart as a named artist though?
