4 Moshi Monsters – Music Rox 8,5k

5 Madonna – MDNA 6,1k

Her album is so bad and Moshi Monsters are selling more than her..(An ex-fan of her..) :)

I can imagine you burning all of her older CDs

Or you were never a fan of her.

It seems Madonna is doing an "Xtina" with this era, but to a lesser extent. GMAYL fails to take off with an OAOS release strategy (same with NMT) and MDNA and Bionic both debuted at #1 before tumbling down the charts.
Would Nicki be the first female rapper to make #1 with an album?

I Believe so! Nicki deserves this record! :P haha Glad it is #1 in the mid-weeks!

Actually only the new entries have passed Madonna yet, so it's not that bad as I thought it would be.
The only rappers that have had #1 albums AFAIA are Tinie Tempah, Eminem (+ D12), Kanye West and 50 Cent, plus The Streets which is debatable and Plan B with a predominantly non-rap album. So yes, Nicki would be the first female rapper to get a #1 album.

Also Wu-Tang Clan and Beastie Boys.

The Streets is not debatable at all imo.

Macy Gray raps quite a lot on her songs, she's labeled mostly as a singer though.

At least it looks like the album chart will have a shake up this week.

Do we think Minaj could top Madonnas sales from last week?

I actually think it can, Most of Madonna's sales were due to pre-orders, Nickis album was only available to pre-order for 1 week, i think she could do 60k.

Don't put D12 in brackets, they're a seperate artist in their own right. :drama:

I can't believe Nicki might be #1 this week! :o Did anyone think back in 2009 that this would happen?

It feels weird though, I don't feel like her (or Tinie) are as big as the other rappers that got #1 albums. But good for her anyway lol.

I think she could overtake Moshi Monsters, but they are part of an offer in HMV. It would be a bit embarrasing if Madonna was behind some stupid kids thing, though! :P

What a boring singles chart with possibly just one new entry! This is happening far too often and it seems really difficult to have a hit single unless you are an autotune rapper with a dance synth or a pure bubblegum pop act. I loved when the UK charts was full of variety and numerous genres. Can anything be done to reverse this malaise? Has it to do with the lack of "real" release dates so no one knows when a song has been officially released. Didn't Noel Gallagher complain about this recently.

Anyway Carly Rae Jepsen could be the only new entry, Alex Day could miss out and the Script for re-entry! Very dull!

Why is TMWCBM re-entering?

It was performed on The Voice on Saturday night. Great toon!

Everything Noel Gallagher says seems to be complete nonsense to be honest, so I wouldn't worry about what he says.

But I agree, the charts are so slow-moving at the moment that it's difficult for not very big hits to get in the top 40. There's not much we can really do about that though, although I think radio stations should stop playing songs that are 12+ months old. Capital still play Someone Like You and Rolling in the Deep multiple times a day, it's just stupid now.

And let's not get started on Sexy and I Know It's chart run again. I think Alex Day might remain top 40 though.

This has not been the case for months now. The two biggest hits of the year are an indie-pop song and a house song.

You say everything Noel Gallagher says is complete nonsense when you've been making exactly the same point for months

According to Alex Day Twitter (posted 3 hours ago):

Also, spoke to the official UK chart company - we're number 9 in the charts and only three hundred sales behind number 8! :o

Well given the type of album it is, that's hardly surprising really.

What type of album is it?
