Exactly. Most number ones are never played on radio today, either because they never play old music, they're dated, etc. Which is understandable. However whenever they do get played, whether on the radio, the club, on tv, and people think "oh yes I remember this", those are memorable number ones, even if they're never played regularly anymore. However the ones that get played and you think "I dont remember how this goes", then yes, I'd say its pretty unmemorable.

Just read what you put and I can't argue, your probably right

I heard the Sonique song, for the first time the other day in ages and was like oh yeah, that song was huge, so I obviously remembered it. I think I will take back what I said about that song being unmemorable then.

Day & Night >>>>>>>>>>> Life. What a classic <3

I'd argue Pixie Lott's Boys & Girls as one, it sold even less than Cry Me Out irrc (which peaked 11 places lower) and nobody really remembers it. Mama Do perhaps fits here as well.

I disgaree, I think if you asked most people where B&G & MamaDo peaked a lot would answer number one, and everyone seems to know the song. The majority in here, I literally have no idea when the song was released and never heard of the song itself.

Maybe because they came out before 2009?

No, infact I still sing JCB until this very day.

Looking down the list of UK number ones from the mid sixties up to date I found the following i didn't know existed let alone knew they got to number one and when i listened to them on youtube it was as if I've never heard them before.... there are many other I couldn't hum but at least I recognise the names of the songs !

1996 Flava/I feel you (Peter Andre)

1997 Professional Widow (Tori Amos)

Do you know what I mean (Oasis)

1998 To you I belong (Bewitched)

2000 Stomp (Steps)

Day and Night (Billie Piper)

Go let it out (Oasis)

2005 The importance of being idle (Oasis)

I'll be ok (Mc Fly)

Ghetto Gospel (2 Pac)

Dare (Gorillaz)

2006 Nasty Girl (Notorious BIG)

You've not heard 2pac - ghetto gospel before?

It's matter of taste of course. No one can say D'ya Know What I Mean by Oasis is unmemorable, it was such an event when it came out! Whether it's a good or even a catchy song is everyone's own opinion.

I would say 'Dare', 'Ghetto Gospel' and 'The Importance Of Being Idle' are still well remembered.

Agreed....although "Ghetto Gospel" like Bob The Builder has the infamy of being #1 when a major world event happened....."Ghetto Gospel" I believe was #1 when 7/7 happened.

I can probably agree with the ones not in bold, but the ones in bold?! These are all still very well known!

It's funny, you look at a year like 2007 and every #1 is instantly memorable, then you fast forward to 2010 (only 2 years ago) and...

Dirtee Disco by Dizzee Rascal.

^I remember it being some camp disco song, but couldn't for the life of me remember how any of the lyrics go.

Seems as though I should have known the Oasis, 2 Pac, Gorillaz, Tori Amos songs .... have to admit on a second listen the 2 Pac song is sounding more familiar than I thought not that I like it particularly though ! Not much into Oasis apart from "Wonderwall" and "Dont look back in Anger" so probably didn't pay any attention - seems as though "Wonderwall" didn't get to number one. As for Gorillaz "Clint Eastwood" is by far the most memorable for me but seems as though that didn't top the UK chart either.

Just to respond to a few bizarre suggestions... :P

SANDI THOM - I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker (#1, June 2006 - see thoughts on David Sneddon)

I don't know why you think this is forgotten. Sandi Thom may be a one-hit-wonder (I wish 'What If I'm Right' went top 10 :() but IWIWAPR is far from forgotten. I know it is never on the radio or music channels but so many people wouldn't need reminding of the song. It stood out so much at the time and still does, arguably.

Yeah, exactly. I'd say it's maybe a classic to be honest. I don't even listen to that type of music much but I'm aware how big the song is.

WTTBP was certainly big at the time and is definitely far from forgotten but I would never call it a classic. It was just a rock song that happened to go to #1 in between many pop singles and is still played on the music channels etc.

Las Ketchup- The Ketchup Song

Natasha Bedingfield- These words

I'm sure these two songs aren't forgotten. The former is one of those novelty tracks from the noughties that will be remembered for a while yet. Like IWIWAPR, it doesn't need constant airplay for the public to remember its existence. The latter is probably less remembered but I wouldn't say it's unmemorable. I still hear it on Heart whenever i have it on in the background.

Ghetto Gospel (2 Pac)

I understand that *you* don't remember this but this definitely isn't forgotten by the general public. One of the most memorable hits from 2005 - more memorable than some of the number ones.

tori amos - professional widdow is on VIVA right now.

It's a weird and funny sounding song

This song is anything but unmemorable. Maybe people just forget it reached number one because it was so different?

A song truly ahead of its time.

I absolutely love it, but I just mean as far as All Saints go I don't think anybody remembers it much let alone that it was #1.

Greatest Hits TV (some obscure Sky/freesat channel) that never runs on time had a run down of #1s of 2010....."Green Light" by Roll Deep deffo escaped me....ditto "Beautiful Monster" by Ne-yo.

Green Light is underrated. Seems strange to say it about a #1 single but it was one of my top five songs of 2010, deserved far more than a quick in and out appearance that nobody noticed :(

Not one of those 80's #1's that first spring to mind, is it?

And Midge Ure is far more remembered for his Ultravox tunes (especially having a #1 denied by Joe Dolce), than for his solo chart-topper.

Michael jackson. BLOOD ON THE DANCEFLOOR

One of his weakest singles but went to number 1.

Due to its chart peak it's included on Number Ones which was quite a success so I wouldn't think a song like that is "forgotten".
