Kanye has just dropped two new songs from his new upcoming project 'G.O.O.D Music' album, which is set to be the first studio album of Kanye West's record label GOOD Music.

 

I am liking both of the new tracks at the moment, although I wouldn't expect anything else from Kanye. 'Mercy' is the first official single, and is already blowing up the American iTunes chart.

I'm disappointed with 'Mercy'. It's not awful but until Kanye's verse it's very meh. It gets a lot better when Kanye comes in though. Kanye never disappoints (aside from 'Stronger' which I hate).

Mercy completely passed me by on the first couple of listens, such a step down from the quality of the past two albums he's released.

They're ok, but nowhere near the quality if his past albums. He's obviously saving his best songs for his next studio album. I'm guessing this album will be like the one the Neptunes put out a while back?

I'M IN. Loving it.

 

I do wish he'd just focus on getting his next solo album out though.

^ "Stronger" is pretty average to be fair, a Daft Punk sample used unimaginatively.

I've only given both of these a couple of listens but I'm really not feeling either. Usually new material from Kanye has me SO SO excited but so far I'm not loving this. I'm sure there is better to come and like Rooney says, surely he's saving the best for his next album (rightly so I guess). Now THAT I can't wait for.

I know, I know. Controversial opinion. I just think it's a really poor use of the sample and given 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger' is one of my favourite songs of all time... take away the sample and it's pretty good but the sample goes all the way through it so it's pretty hard to ignore :lol:

Anyway, 'Mercy' has grown on me already - still not mad about the chorus/hook/whatever you call it but the rest is GOOD.

I think its a pretty good use of the sample, and the synths in the background especially during the outro are GLORIOUS. Besides, Daft Punk essentially did the exact same thing to Cola Bottle Baby. Also, "Theraflu" has thankfully been renamed "Way Too Cold", the original name was woeful.

It took seeing the video and hearing it on a night out but I'm finally in love with 'Mercy'. So damn good.

Confused why it took so long to grow on me earlier?!
