They were held back and started off with high sales which gradually got lower over time. I wouldn't say Only Girl was frontloaded in the US, but in the UK it was.

Well I would correct you because a song that has "increased" sales the following weeks are surely not frontloaded. In my interpretaiton frontladed means high sales in the first 2-3 days then plummeting down not just that week, but also the following weeks, like McFly's singles (mostly), or Rockstar, Elephant etc.

So sales are below average after a strong start.

What you're talking about is quite normal imo. Almost every song is "frontloaded" actually, high sales in the first two days (mostly because sales are Sundays and Mondays the strongest), people are waiting for the release, exepctations, and after that it normalizes. I wouldn't count the aforementioned songs frontladed because of this.

I don't think so. Because there's lots and lots of frontloaded songs which don't reach #1 (I think it's very likely that Sway and Usher's songs will be frotnloaded, and they're not going to be #1). And there's lots of frontloaded #1s, which are absolutely massive (Pass Out, Only Girl, basically all the ones I mentioned above), so I wouldn't consider them "non-#1s". They're just frontloaded.

Yeah. Something like Somebody That I Used to Know I wouldn't say is frontloaded, since it peaked in sales a few weeks into its chart run and stayed consistently near its peak for a while. California Gurls peaked on its very first week and never came within 20,000 of it's peak ever again I think.

No, I mean as a catchphrase people use here, and argue about when to use it, and put it on songs that don't fit. ;)

Haha, good point

The pop bars are back on Kworb! Bieber at 0.8000 now, and in light green. Nicki at #3 is on 0.4625.

No they aren't - it says at the top that popularity data is estimated.

Is "frontloaded" going to become the new "non-number 1"?

They have different meanings - non-number 1s are frontloaded but frontloaded songs aren't necessarily non-number 1s (and as Eric said this can also be applied to songs which don't get #1 in the first place, for example 'Rockstar').

EDIT: Oh, I see your explanation now :P

 17. Climax - Usher

 22. Level Up (Radio Edit) - Sway

 62. Blackout - Breathe Carolina

 225. Disparate Youth - Santigold

 229. Level Up (Extended Mix) - Sway

I really hope Santigold can at least get in the official top 100... :( Breathe Carolina climbing well, they could go top 40. I wish Usher would hurry up a bit.

WTF is that?

So you're saying if Rockstar or Elephant increase in sales next week you won't consider them frontloaded?

A song? What did you think it was?

Jeeez, really? Do you really thought I'm so dumb?

It's an abbreviation but what for?

Not everyone cares about your BJSC song, sarky arse.

Ahha so you didn't get what I was saying just taking a snippet from my words to catch something it's not :(

It's an abbreviation but what for?

It means Talk To You Later xox (xox stands for hugs and kisses) in text speak, no idea why they found naming the song that a good idea though

Thanks Liam, never heard of that, it's not even on the schedule.

Accidently I know what's xox at least (Cornholio springs to my mind, if someone can remember on him)

Ahha so you didn't get what I was saying just taking a snippet from my words to catch something it's not :(

You didn't answer my question. :P To be honest, we agree with each other anyway. You said yourself "almost every song is frontloaded", so you got what I'm trying to say.

I know what "xox" means thanks to the Black Eyed Peas.

These long strings of abbreviations confuse me

I didn't mean it in a mean way.

Your original post was this:

"A song? What did you think it was?"

Later you've added:

"Its doing quite good in the US at the moment"

The original post was quite mean :(

I sort of what to see it chart now, for the sole reason that Reggie will f*** up and get the full meaning of the abbreivation totally wrong

I'm sorry.

ARGH Eric, once again, for me "frontloaded" means that a new release has quite high sales in the first couple of days but than it plummets down to a sales below average. Like for example McFly's singles.

If they recover a bit some weeks later because of for example a 59p promo and it jumps back into the top 10 I would call them frontladed in the first week but recovered after that. :D
