April 16, 201214 yr Author Midweek Charts: Mraz leading albums market as Legend finds new Voice Source: MW 14:41 | Wednesday April 18, 2012 By Paul Williams Jason Mraz has taken an early lead in the race to top the UK singles chart as John Legend’s Ordinary People heads for the singles top five after being covered on The Voice. Mraz’s newly-issued Atlantic album Love Is A Four Letter Word was around 2,000 sales ahead of closest rival and last Sunday’s number one 21 by XL act Adele up to the end of business on Tuesday with Nicki Minaj’s Cash Money/Island album Pink Friday – Roman Reloaded third, according to Official Charts Company Data. Mraz, whose last album We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things reached number eight in the UK, is looking to top the chart as fellow American John Legend is heading for his biggest hit yet thanks to BBC One’s The Voice. His 2005 cut Ordinary People cropped up twice on last Saturday’s programme, being performed by contestants Becky Hill and Jaz Ellington, and initially turned up on the following day’s chart at 27, the same position it peaked at in 2005. It is now up to third place in the midweeks behind Interscope/Polydor’s Carly Rae Jepsen with Call Me Maybe, which spent a second week at number one last Sunday and leads again this week, and Parlophone new priority Conor Maynard whose Can’t Say No shows up in second place. Legend will also see some albums chart action as a result of The Voice with Ordinary People’s parent album Get Lifted turning up as a re-entry at 18 in the midweeks. It originally reached number 12. Just below it in 16th place is the self-titled first album by Phonogenic’s The Script, led by The Voice’s Danny O’Donogue. It was 32nd on last Sunday’s chart. He is joined by fellow Voice coach Jessie J who holds her position of four achieved on last Sunday’s chart with the Island/Lava album Who You Are, while in the week so far Polydor act Lana Del Rey climbs 6-5 with Born To Die, Virgin’s Emeli Sande drops 5-6 with Our Version Of Events, Columbia’s Train are new at seven with California 37 as the cut Drive By is new at 17 on singles, David Guetta’s Positiva/Virgin album Nothing But The Beat is down 7-8, while Asylum/Atlantic’s Ed Sheeran is up 10-9 with + and Rough Trade’s Alabama Shakes drop 3-10 with Boys & Girls. Spiritualized’s first studio album in nearly four years, the Double Six/Domino-issued Sweet Heart Sweet Light, is at present appearing as a new entry at 11, while other new arrivals on this coming Sunday’s chart will include albums from Electric Generation’s Dragon Force, K Scope’s Anathema, Hassle’s Cancer Bats, Enzo’s Chicane and EMI’s Dr Feelgood. Jessie J is looking like scoring simultaneous top five hits on the singles and albums countdowns with the Island/Lava-issued Laserlight featuring David Guetta rising 26-5 in the midweeks, just ahead of Atlantic’s B.o.B. showing up as a new entry at six with So Good. We Are Young by Atlantic’s Fun featuring Janelle Monae climbs 7-4, while the midweek Top 10 is completed by Island’s Somebody That I Used To Know by Gotye featuring Kimbra dropping 3-7, Cash Money/Island’s Nicki Minaj slipping 5-8 with Starships, Atlantic/VP’s Sean Paul falling 6-9 with She Doesn’t Mind and 679/Atlantic’s Marina & The Diamonds new at 10 with Primadonna. It is one of four Atlantic singles in the Top 10 midweeks. Like The Voice, ITV1’s Britain’s Got Talent is also having an impact on the market with 14th Floor/Atlantic’s Skinny Love by Birdy rising 85-22 after being covered on last Saturday’s programme by hopeful Paige Turley, while there are two versions currently in the Top 40 of This Woman’s Work after contestant Hope Murphy covered. Kate Bush’s original, issued by her Fish People label through EMI, moves 105-38, while Maxwell’s Sony-handled cover climbs 90-28. =============================================== Wednesday Update Top 40 Only Source: Radio 1/OCC Top 40 Singles 1 Carly Rae Jepsen 2 Conor Maynard 3 John Legend 4 fun./Janelle Monae 5 Jessie J/David Guetta Top 10 6 B.o.B 10 Marina & The Diamonds Top 20 13 Jason Mraz 14 Alex Clare 17 Train Top 30 22 Birdy 28 Maxwell Top 40 38 Kate Bush 40 Linkin' Park http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/update/singles/print =================================================== Top 40 Albums 1 Jason Mraz (2k ahead) 2 Adele 3 Nicki Minaj 4 Jessie J 5 Lana Del Rey Top 10 7 Train 9 Ed Sheeran Top 20 11 Spiritualized 13 Madonna 16 Script [script] 18 John Legend Top 30 24 Dragon Force 26 Script [s&F] Top 40 34 Anathema 36 Alex Clare 37 Cancer Bats http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/j...r-1-album-1347/
April 16, 201214 yr Author Midweek Charts update: Jessie set to light up Top 10 again Source: MW 11:32 | Friday April 20, 2012 By Paul Williams Jessie J is on course for her sixth UK Top 10 hit in the space of little more than a year with sales of her David Guetta pairing Laserlight up more than 500% on the week. The Island/Lava single has moved in the week so far 26-5 with latest Official Charts Company midweek Data showing its sales by the end of business on Thursday were 541.6% higher than over the same period the week before. Jessie J’s previous Top 10 hits are Do It Like A Dude (peaking at 2), Price Tag (1), Nobody’s Perfect (9), Domino (1) and Who You Are (8). Making an even steeper climb from where it was on last Sunday’s final chart on the latest midweek countdown is John Legend’s 2005 hit Ordinary People following the song’s exposure on last Saturday’s The Voice. Two contestants, Becky Hill and Jaz Ellington, performed the song on the BBC One programme and as a result the RCA-handled release immediately re-entered the UK singles chart the following day and is now up to fourth position in the week so far. Interscope/Polydor’s Carly Rae Jepsen is comfortably poised to spend a third week at number one with Call Me Maybe, while new Parlophone act Conor Maynard is set to debut at two with Can’t Say No and former Billboard Hot 100 number one We Are Young by fun featuring Janelle Monae looks likely to break into the top three. The Fueled By Ramen/Atlantic track was seventh on last Sunday’s chart. There is a close battle at the top of the artist albums market currently with Atlantic act Jason Mraz’s newly-issued Love Is A Far Letter Word just ahead of XL’s second Adele album 21, which is seeking a 23rd week at number one. Cash Money/Island’s Nicki Minaj drops 2-3 as things currently stand with Pink Friday – Roman Reloaded, while Lana Del Rey’s Polydor debut Born To Die climbs 6-4 and Island/Lava’s Jessie J drops 4-5 with Who You Are. Also among the Top 10 sellers at this stage of the week is the brand new album from Columbia’s Train with California 37 registering as a new entry at eight. ========================================== Friday Top 40 Update Singles 1 Carly Rae Jepsen 2 Conor Maynard 3 fun 4 John Legend 5 Jessie J 6-10 B.o.B Marina And The Diamonds (10) 11-20 Train Azelia Banks Alex Clare 21-30 Birdy Linkin Park 31-40 Maxwell ========================================== Albums 1 Jason Mraz 2 Adele 3 Nicki Minaj 4 Lana Del Ray 5 Jessie J 6-10 Train Ed Sheeran 11-20 12 Madonna Spiritualized The Script Bruce Springsteen Olly Murs 21-30 Maverick Sabre John Legend The Black Keys The Script 31-40 Dragonforce Alex Clare Chicane Thanks to Robbie
April 17, 201214 yr Author Looks like Carly is going to bag another week, I never thought Carly would have such a big hit with Call Me Maybe, much better than the weekly #1 turnover, I just hope something shifts it next week. I wish fun. took off, it seems to have fallen a bit by the wayside I don't think the track is going to take off, it just seems a bit too late now. Goodness knows what's going to happen in the album chart, album sales are pretty on the low side for last week, could be Jason Mraz, or Jessie J might just push Adele down.
April 17, 201214 yr Teenage girls are really going to hate Carly if she blocks Justin and Conor from #1 :o I don't mind Can't Say No as it has that infectious beat, so hope it doesn't freefall after this week.
April 17, 201214 yr LOL, teenage girls love Call Me Maybe. Album charts seems to be the more interesting one this week, as in less predictable, I guess. Too bad about the sales.
April 17, 201214 yr Linkin Park might make the top 40 with their new single. Depending on how it progresses throughout the week.
April 17, 201214 yr im expecting marina and the diamonds will be top 10 at the first update or if not at number 11. hopefully gotye is out of the top 5
April 17, 201214 yr Didn't know that Linkin Park song was out... heard it yesterday and thought it was fantastic - will have to download
April 17, 201214 yr Thats the thing, teenage girls would hate her, but they dont as they love the song (generalising ofcourse not all do but a vast majority do, 12-16 age range mostly i'm guessing, its a very young, girly song.) Edited April 17, 201214 yr by Karma
April 17, 201214 yr get in! now lets hope it stays there Unless she climbs on itunes, she'll be out of the top 10 by Friday I'm afraid.
April 17, 201214 yr Conor maynard claimed he was #2 but seemed to delete and retweet he was #2 itunes earlier
April 17, 201214 yr Linkin Park might make the top 40 with their new single. Depending on how it progresses throughout the week. I love statements like this.
April 17, 201214 yr The second bit "Depending on how it progresses throughout the week". The chart position of everything depends on how it progresses throughout the week. It's like saying - Carly will be number one of she sells enough. Edited April 17, 201214 yr by tonyttt31

It's like saying - Carly will be number one of she sells enough. Oh I see what you mean. Well yeah obviously true. I was just referring back to their cover of "Rolling In The Deep" when it was released.
