Immensely classy pop song, it's a shame it's now been outsold by "Rolling In The Deep" (which I do like as well, although in true Charlie style I prefer Linkin Park's cover) since it beat it so comprehensively at the time. Not impressed with the sped up version though.

Bruno followed up his still-to-come mega-hit with this rather extreme declaration of what he'd do for a woman.

Is it actually sped up then? I thought it sounds faster aswell, but I haven't listened to the song in about 12 months, so I thought maybe I just didn't remember it properly.

I know Bruno will get a lot of hate, but this and Just The Way You Are were excellent pop records imo, I was actually glad this beat Rolling In The Deep even though I'm alone in that :P
Oh, was very close between these two eventually then! Although the gap will be increasing daily.
Shakespeare is so overrated imo. Most famous rappers rhyme much better than him.

Shakespeare tended to avoid rhyme in much of his work as he wrote in blank verse, only usually rhyming in plays at the end of each scene to signal the start of a new scene. I like rappers, but I doubt many of them will even come close to Shakespeare's cultural impact .

Yes, Adele slips past the man who beat her to the top spot and proves her dominance in every area of the charts these days. An absolutely superb production.

I always find it hard to seperate the three singles she released from '21', they were all superb songs, but this is probably my favourite.
They do realise Adele says "ship", not "shit" in Rolling in the Deep? My favourite Adele song, even though it gets overplayed, I never get bored of it!

Ooh, Rolling In The Deep has outsold Grenade! Good good.

I'm pretty sure it is 'shit'.

It was back in the days when X Factor singles sold by the bucketload automatically, but my memory of this was immediately eclipsed by her next single...

That explains it then. Seriously, the rhyming in even Candy Shop is better than most of what I've read from Shakespeare (although as you said, he avoided rhyming, so that's probably WHY I suppose)!! Not saying he's bad though, just found it bizarre how I had to study his mediocre rhyming in such an in-depth way when I was at school.

I agree about the last bit though, I doubt any musical artist, period, will have cultural impact close to Shakespeare's tbh.

I think you're right. I saw this thing once of Adele's hand-written lyrics of the song and it said "shit".

I'm surprised how much I hear it uncensored though. Same with "shittin" in Sweat by Snoop Dogg. I don't know if people are getting more liberal with that word now, of if they're mistaking them for "ship" and "shuttin" respectively, so not censoring them.

I'm pretty sure it is 'shit'.

It always sounds like "ship" when I hear it, and I've heard the song on the radio where it hasn't been bleeped out.

Ugh, as with EVERY song Ed Sheeran has released, this got boring after about 2 weeks, and hasn't recovered since - really dull song.

One of last year's biggest new stars, his first and best single never seemed to leave the number three spot, let alone the top ten.
