Oh 'Kids' is quite tolerable, FAR preferable to see that promoted than the vile Baha Men thing. There are some songs that I just cannot understand the appeal of at all and that is definitely one of them.

Oh Dandy!!! :(

'Who Let The Dogs Out' was a pure novelty hit that appealed to kids. I remember going to Blackpool Pleasure Beach with some of our family in the October (the rain was so terrential it caused a power cut so all the Blackpool Illuminations went out). They played Baha Men while we were at BPB and my newphew (who would've been 5 at the time) thought it was the best song ever. :D

When you see a 5 year old boy dancing and singing along to a song like this, you have to smile in a "don't laugh, it'll make him cry" kinda way. :D

I liked Baha Men when I first heard it in, like, JULY, but suffice to say I was sick to death of it by the time it had finally been released and preceded to hang around the top 10 for like three months... joke wearing thin indeed.

But wow, so no promotion for WLTDO? :o I guess there's more to the art of this thread than just expecting the highest selling #2 of the year to get promoted but I really would never have predicted Kids to somehow get promoted instead. Baha Men seemed such an obvious candidate when they climbed to #2 behind Steps and then stayed in the top 5 for the next month that you would surely have expected them to rack up enough sales to replace one of the weaker chart toppers.

Six 2000 number ones were covers of former #2 hits (I Have A Dream, American Pie, You See The Trouble With Me, We Will Rock You, Take On Me and Against All Odds)

...and the only one I ever had time for was Black Legend. The rest of them? Pfft!!!

A1 - Caught in the Middle is such a wondeful track. I often considered downloading its parent album.

DESTINY'S CHILD- INDEPENDENT WOMEN PART ONE- NON NUMBER ONE

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/72/Destiny's_child-independent_women.jpg

NEW PEAK POSITION: 2

Another pretty unpredictable fall from grace for Destiny's Child first No 1 comes courtesy of S Club 7's magnificent first 2 weeks sales in the lead up to Christmas 2000. It was denied on this chart by just 6k but it remains their biggest selling single of their career and not one I'd have expected to be squeezed out in the rush, still that's all good news for LeAnn Rimes.

EMINEM- STAN- NON NUMBER ONE- NON NUMBER ONE

NEW PEAK POSITION: 2

Suffering from what we will term now the "Spice Up Your Life scenario" this was debuted at No 4 under this system with Bob The Builder at No 5 just 10 k behind. A week late and Bob climbed over Eminem turning that disadvantage into a 52k lead as it serged away to become the year's best seller, giving Eminem no opportunity to claim the top spot, not that it sold badly itself shifting over 500k in just 4 wks.

Records in bold debuted there.

Independent Women and Stan being non-#1s :( At least the latter sold very well, and only became a non-#1 because of Bob The Builder's massive sales

So even your system can only reduce the list of #1s in 2000 to 30? :D That was an interesting year. As I said it seems like it could have almost been picked at random - bizarre to have low-selling #1s like Manic Street Preachers, All Saints, Black Legend, etc, hold on while the likes of Eminem, Destiny's Child and Melanie C are knocked off.

Not surprised at Stan - that was what I was talking about yesterday in regards to the "controversial" demotion obviously - as I knew it only barely beat Bob the Builder to get its week at #1 in a three-week system it had no chance when Bob the Builder streaked ahead the rest of the way. Bit surprised at Destiny's Child but on reflection I can see how that happened even if I wouldn't necessarily have been confident to predict it.

Methinks 2001 should see a return to a bit of normality after such insanity! :o

It is a shock to see Stan demoted. Dido's only no.1 for which she isn't usually credited and Eminem's greatest song. 2000 was a really bizarre year, the release schedule seemed so planned out so that there would be a new no.1 every week. I recall hearing that Mel C had put I Turn To You back a week because it was originally up against Rock DJ.

And Westlife moved Fool Again forward a week IIRC to avoid Craig David and the other stream of songs that made up the all-new top 6 that week. A couple of Geri's #1s also had their release dates changed a bit before their release. There's certainly no doubt around this time especially that record companies whose acts "relied" on hitting the top as part of their brand were keenly watching the release schedule to have the best chance possible of it.

Stan?! Noooo! :( Damn Bob The Builder!

Glad Black Coffee managed to keep its number 1 status though.

Interesting that 'Holler' by the Spice Girls got 2 weeks under this system. :o

JENNIFER LOPEZ- LOVE DON'T COST A THING- NON NUMBER ONE

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/59/Jennifer_Lopez_-_Love_Dont_Cost_a_Thing_-_CD_single_cover.jpg

NEW PEAK POSITION: 2

Into 2001 we go and before January is out of the way we have our first victim, a certain J-Lo. "Love Don't Cost A Thing" is now rather forgotten about adn indeed in a soft new year market it took just 60k to make the top and was the lead single for her second album "J Lo" the video is probably more famous for being the place where the singer met furture husband Chris Judd.

WESTLIFE- UPTOWN GIRL- NON NUMBER ONE

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/9a/9UptownGirl1.jpg

NEW PEAK POSITION: 2

A bit of a surprise one this, "Uptown Girl" isn't on this list due to poor sales (it's by far their biggest selling single) nor for a poor first week sale (it sold 292k in that week- again a record for them) but it was bookended by "It Wasn't Me" and "Pure and Simple" which both did a million and had opening weeks both of which were much higher than Westlife's, urgo it gets demoted- can they hang on to their remainding No 1's?

DESTINY'S CHILD- SURVIVOR- NON NUMBER ONE

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d1/Destiny's_child-survivor(single).jpg

NEW PEAK POSITION: 2

So Destiny's Child lose both of their chart toppers according to the rules of this thread, unable to overtake S Club 7's "Don't Stop Moving" which pretty much decimated all before it in May 2001 and becomes one of three tracks to debut at No 1 in 2001 meaning this is defeated before it really began. So all their chances now rest on 2004's "Lose My Breath".
