Lose Yourself not making it!

Will In Da Club make #1 this way? I don't have a clue really, just I've seen people say it had a really long chart run (by 2003's standards).

Possibly. It went 4-9-8-5-3-3-5-7-8, and its two weeks at #3 were behind Room 5 before Busted took over on what I think were fairly low sales.

Guys, we've already gone past March/April 2003 in terms of this thread, so the answer is definitely not. Elton John was #1 in August 2003. :P

The only promotion that I can forsee in 2003 might be... Kevin Lyttle :o *shudders at the thought* But there's not much room for promotions elsewhere when lots of songs were hogging the #1 spot for three or four weeks as was much noted at the time.

Junior Senoir 'Move Your Feet' had a decent run but doubt that would've been promoted here.

Mind you, if we're already up to Elton John 'Are You Ready For Love?' then neither Junior Senior or 50 Cent would've made it. :P

Awwww. A shame about In Da Club. :( Maybe Ayo Technology can make #1 this way.

Turn Me On would be an amazing #1!! It re-entered the chart not long ago actually.

With the two songs mentioned already "In da Club" and "Move your feet" they were bobbing along with sub 20k sales in any week, so even a No 1 at say 40k was selling in one week what they were doing in 2 which probably explains why they weren't get promoted (not to No 1 anyway). There are 3 more demotions to come in 2003!! :o

I recall that Kevin Lyttle was in Gezza's Closest Races to Number One thread the week it entered at #2 behind Sugababes, so it was less than ~5k behind that week I think. But Sugababes dropped like a brick after so they're not a threat, unlike the outgoing #1 from Black Eyed Peas and the next #1 from Fatman Scoop.

I think it may reach #1 on Fatman Scoop's first official week (01/11/2003) as it was ahead of BEPs for all three of the weeks that would count on this system and Fatman Scoop would have only had two weeks counted towards his total, compared to Kevin Lyttle who would have three. The sales for #1 were very low around that time, only about 50-60k on average, and Kevin Lyttle must have been selling in the region of 40k per week for a decent period of time.

I can't deny it was a genuinely popular song anyway, but it always got on my nerves... it's his voice, mainly, the falsetto was unbearable. If only Wayne Wonder could have been in that situation instead.

Anyway, that's my prediction... *waits to be spectacularly wrong* :D

I don't like that Kevin Lyttle song either, it sounds alright in a club I guess

Not happy about Are You Ready For Love though :( I know it wasn't very notable, but was still one of my favourite number 1s of the year (and obviously sad about Lose Yourself as well), I'm pretty sure Westlife & Sugababes are two of the demotions, not sure about the other one though, Busted?

SUGABABES- HOLE IN MY HEAD- NON NUMBER ONE

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/41/Sugababes_hole.jpg

NEW PEAK POSITION: 3

A second Sugababes demotion coming up now, its winning margin of under 2k back in Oct 2003 followed by a descent of 1-5-6 spells disaster and means that the song can't progress beyond No 3 on this thread.

01.11.03- KEVIN LYTTLE- TURN ME ON- NEW NUMBER ONE (1 wk)

As feared here's our sole 2003 promotion, really because it held up better than the Sugababes and outperformed Black Eyed Peas who were on their last legs with "Where Is The Love". Awful record- apologies!

KYLIE MINOGUE- SLOW- NON NUMBER ONE

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/8b/Kylie_slow.jpg

NEW PEAK POSITION: 2

I refuse to believe that No-one saw Kylie's relegation coming. "Slow" was very fortunate to make No 1 at all, it sold a mere 43k, the lowest total since that August, and falling 1-4-12 and selling just 75k in those 3 weeks is not the stuff that even 2003 chart toppers were made of.

'Slow' is easily one of the worst singles Kylie has ever released. I had a gut feeling at the time that it'd be no. 1 because it's Kylie, and this was very much a fanbase purchase that had little appeal to anyone else beyond that, as proved by the poor sales and plummeting chart run.

Even Britney's 'Me Against The Music' (just about) sold more the following week to enter at #2. Now, Kylie Vs Britney would've been quite the chart battle.

Poor Kylie. Slow was a bad hit, the album Body Language was the worst of her Noughties albums.

WESTLIFE- MANDY- NON NUMBER ONE

http://991.com/NewGallery/Westlife-Mandy-354056.jpg

NEW PEAK POSITION: 3

Two things happened here to strip the 'life of another chart topper and those two things were Shane Richie and Will Young. Those two release both had first week sales of over 100k (impressive for 03) and far to much or poor "Mandy" to content with and so a fifth demotion is needed.

Bolded records debuted there

Mandy gone?! :o How can the 'Record of the Year' be demoted? Madness I tell thee!!! :kink:

On a more serious note, not liking the hitting that early (and of course best) Sugababes are taking in this thread. Hole In The Head is EVERYTHING with its icy delivery and spiky, skittery backing, possibly the best girlband song of the decade. And of course their later chart toppers from when they lost their edge will have no chance of being demoted as they were #1 for weeks. Depressing stuff. :(

As for Kevin Lyttle, well I think I made my thoughts clear on that up-thread...

Lose My Breath surely must get promoted in 2004. Perhaps Milshake would too? I'd love to see Left Outside Alone get promoted but that measly week at no.3 won't be enough no matter how consistently it sold.
Surprised that Changes didn't get demoted, considering it was released just 1 week before Mad World.
