No, it hasn't flopped. She didn't send it to pop radio, and it was "released" at the same time as Starships was still popular and being promoted. Everybody knew it wasn't going to do well, and I don't think she or her label expected it to. Starships would've flopped aswell in that situation.

Seriously, it's completely normal for hip hop artists to send album tracks to urban radio and/or make music videos or remixes to them. They don't do like pop artists such Katy Perry and Lady Gaga do with one song at a time, every 3 months, everything choreographed perfectly, etc.

Starships was released to radio mid February, RBMS was only premiered and sent to radio at the very end of March. Its had all the treatment of a proper single, a video, promotion on at leat a few tv shows, and sent to radio. Its got fairly high on both Rhythmic airplay and Urban airplay. Im pretty sure it was the second single, but even if it wasnt its had better promo than some of her previous singles and still not done as well. So i would say its flopped.

Absolutely any song will flop in that situation. It's not getting played on pop radio there. That's the equivalent of Nicki releasing a single here and neither Radio 1 or Capital playing it. Of course it's flopped, as Starships is still on pop radio. Nicki will not get another hit from the album until those stations start playing one of the other songs (and I'm sure the label will just send Pound the Alarm or Whip It or something for the next song).

So imo Right By My Side is doing very well, and if it swapped with Starships (as in Starships only getting sent to urban radio and being released post-album and during Right By My Side's chart domination, thus getting ignored), then Starships would've flopped and Right By My Side would've been a hit.

^Then why keep saying it hasnt flopped....plenty of people have had two songs doing well at the same time, pop radio was playing starships and Urban and Rhythmic both jumped on RBMS so its not like they chose Starships over RBMS.

No. Urban and rhythmic are irrelevent to the charts these days. It's like getting playlisted on Radio 1Xtra and Choice FM in the UK. It just has no effect on the charts anymore. Starships wouldn't have gone top 20 either if pop radio weren't playing it and it was released after the album.

There's no rhythmic/urban exclusive singles in the top 20 of the charts at the moment. Nicki will never get a big hit without pop radio, so if she wanted Right By My Side to be a big hit, she would've sent it to pop (and pop will play that song if they're told to).

^Saying that Urban and Rhythmic radio play is irrelevant in the US of all places is ridiculous. Clearly you dont know what your talking about so I'm gon leave it at that.

It is. This isn't 2004 anymore. Urban songs don't become hits unless sent to pop radio. Songs that get to #1 on urban airplay miss the entire top 20 often now. Earlier this year, Lotus Flow Bomb by Wale got to #1 on urban airplay and charted at #38 in the Hot 100. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lotus_Flower_Bomb You, and most of the people living in the US, have probably never heard that song before, despite it being #1 on urban radio stations, which shows how irrelevent they are now.

Nicki and her label are well aware of this. They don't want Right By My Side to do well. All they care about is Starships, and you'll see how they have another dance song ready just as Starships dies in the chart.

If Right By My Side and Beez in the Trap mattered to them, they'd be panicking at their performance at the moment. They're not. Those songs can land at #49 in the Hot 100 and they won't bat an eyelid, as long as Pound the Alarm goes top 10.

I agree with all what you said here.

They should have properly released right by my side as the 2nd uk single followed by pound the alarm
Pound The Alarm for the second UK single is perfect timing as it sounds like a summer smash. :D

@NICKIMINAJ

Ok so no, I didn't shoot the PTA vid yet. Didn't confirm for UK release either. U guys want #vavavoom more than #poundthealarm?

I'd rather have Va Va Voom, Pound The Alarm peaks in the first verse, the rest bores me.

I think I'd prefer Va VA Voom actually, I do love PTA but it's quite overrated (I prefer Whip It, Beez In The Trap, Young Forever, Starships and Marilyn Monroe to it) plus Va Va Voom isn't a generic club banger like Starships but it's still an obvious hit.
love both but I'd still choose 'pound the alarm' over 'va va voom'. both are much better than 'marilyn monroe', but ideally it'd be 'whip it' being the next single.
Oh just make a decision woman! Young Forever, Va Va Voom or Pound The Alarm would be fine choices I think. I think 'Pound The Alarm' would probably do the best though, especially in the summer.

Flo Rida: Whistle

Pitbull: Back In Time

Nicki Minaj: Pound the Alarm

Sorry, but she HAS to release Va Va Voom if she's choosing between those two. There's something very wrong if Nicki's next single is MORE generic than the ones Pitbull and Flo Rida have just released.

Yeah it's generic but it has a certain appeal to it I think. It's much more feel good and feels less basic than those two songs you mentioned. Her raps in it are really good too. I'm happy it's the next single anyway, was always my favourite on the album.
