July 8, 201213 yr Nice to hear another side of Frank, very laid back and soulful. Not as good as 'Pyramids' for me just yet, but I am sure it will grow even more. I just love Frank's voice and can't wait to hear the whole album.
July 9, 201213 yr why did he come out so close to his album release ? Because many of the songs on the album are about his first love being a guy and he was going to put that note in the album 'thank you' section to clear everything up but due to pre-listening's ect. for press people to review the album ect. there was already speculation about his sexuality circling around the internet so he decided to just post it last week. July 10, 201213 yr #1 on UK iTunes :o Must check this out, loving Nostalgia Ultra, it's kind of like if Marvin Gaye had made Echoes Of Silence in the 70s.
July 10, 201213 yr few spins later and it's pretty solid. still all about thinkin bout you though. YES 1. Thinkin Bout You 2. Pyramids 3. Lost
July 10, 201213 yr Ooh gonna give this a listen later, nearly died when I saw that it had been released early on Digital Spy haha!
July 12, 201213 yr YES 1. Thinkin Bout You 2. Pyramids 3. Lost WORD http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/16859-channel-orange/ LMAO "OMG he's black r&b artist and been in love with a man must be the best album ever" 9.5, seriously?!?! I'm a huge fan of hip hop and r&b but would never give more than 8.0.
July 12, 201213 yr I think it's deserving of that score. It's beautiful but edgy, challengic but classic. It recalls classic soul records of the 70s but has modern production touches and lyrics too. Yes, I probably do like it better than I would if he hadn't come out, but because of the Tyler connection I never would have listened to it anyway. I'm so happy to have Frank in my life
July 12, 201213 yr I found it all a bit boring if I'm honest. I love 'Nostalgia, Ultra', but this is just lacking in comparison. I do appreciate the pure RnB feel of the album as it's a very nice change to anything that is in the charts now days. But at the moment, although I like it, I'm finding it a bot of a chore to listen through. Good thing though, 'Pyramids' has grown on me majorly since having this album. I'm sure it'll grow on me (majority of it already has), but at the moment as a full album, it's all very 6.5/7 out of 10 for me. Give me the EP over this anyday though.
July 12, 201213 yr Yea I do agree it's an awesome album but 9.5 means that it's 0.5 away from absolutely perfect which is quite a lot said about 24-year-old's first proper album. And to me, the review doesn't really go with the score. It seems more like 8.5-ish to me based on the written review. Oh well, glad it's a critical success (it was always bound to be tbh). Just wish people wouldn't pretend it's perfect because it's only his debut and far from perfect album as I see it ("perfect" being something like Behaviour by Pet Shop Boys) Edited July 12, 201213 yr by SKOB

July 13, 201213 yr Really, really lovely. Thinkin About You still brings me to almost tears sometimes.
July 13, 201213 yr I wouldn't have known about this album if it wasn't for all the headlines this past week or so. If it wasn't for the news, I wouldn't have realised it was him who sang 'Novacane'. :o Anyway, having listened to some of his album, I can certainly understand why he is currently at #2 on the albums chart. Let's hope he doesn't suffer an underperformance in America just because of his sexuality.
July 13, 201213 yr I never bothered with Nostalgia Ultra and wish I had. I can't find it on any of the download sites though, I am missing something? (aside from the album, nat)
July 14, 201213 yr I never bothered with Nostalgia Ultra and wish I had. I can't find it on any of the download sites though, I am missing something? (aside from the album, nat) http://frankocean.net/music/mixtape-nostalgia-ultra/ It's a mixtape, so you can find it on his fansite, and probably on his own webpage too, just couldn't be bothered to stumble through it all, so went with google instead. And you really are missing something, as it's truly excellent. After the first few listens, I'm not that fuzzed about Channel Orange, but Nostalgia Ultra is truly brilliant. Catchy, well produced, thoughtful at times and it aims further than the generic R'n'B we've seen for so many years. I've been utterly loathing the genre for the last many years, but Frank Ocean and The Weeknd really got me.
