I think usage of the word "deserves" is what we should be debating.

Is deserving a subjective or objecting attribute?

It's obviously subjective - down to opinion. I'm not debating that. I know that Justin worked hard on this but you might not think he deserves it because of that - we all think of the word differently.

I do think that some artists deserve their success because they're talented - people would be stupid if acts like David Bowie, Madonna and The Beatles would've remained unnoticed. For some acts it's just impossible to think that they would not be recognised.

However, having success on pop charts is not matter of deserving it at all. Charts are (supposed to be) objective so it's a case of people liking what you do, not you doing your thing well.

Justin Beiber and Cheryl Cole #1 and #2? Sickening.

One was obviously bought by people with bad taste and paedophiles the other vaccous ninnies and Simon Cowell buying 75% of the copies.

Fiona Apple's album title won't fit on one line on my browser

I see Paul Weller sold enough in just 24 hours of 'Birthday' for it to chart two places higher than the actual lead single from his last album ('That Dangerous Age' #66) :o

#98 Buzzcocks - Ever Fallen In Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've?) [reduced to 59p on iTunes]

A cover of this by Nouvelle Vague is also the soundtrack to the new KIA car advert.

Pleasing to see Jay-Z/Kanye and Nicki getting new peaks; the latter especially is growing on me as a single choice :D

Ah, thanks for that - I thought I'd heard it on TV as well but I just had a quick check if it was 59p anyway and it is as well.

Singles

#79 Eva Cassidy - Time After Time [5th hit] **

Wondered why Eva had randomly charted with the above - Great to see her score a 5th hit, Love her material although there seems to be no new releases now as they have uncovered and released everything they had by her :(

Edited albums summary into previous post.

Does anyone know if there's a particular reason Mumford & Sons' album has re-entered? I normally just put lower re-entries down to slow weeks / random fluctuations but #58 seems too high to not have a precedent.

Also, Chartstats seems to only use the top 40 albums in its archives for 1999, so TIWIWTTDOTSAWCWSYMTRWED (that's longer than a lot of album titles even as an abbreviation ) is only Fiona Apple's first hit for the purposes of this summary, even though WTPHTCHTLAKWHKTTBWHGTTFAHWTWTFHETRTNBTBWYMIYMSWYGSYHYOHARTDITGOHAIYKWYSTYKWTLAIYFIWMCYKTYR (:drama:) apparently made #46 in 1999.
