He's stalled on iTunes around the #110 mark and it's not making too much radio progress (rising on HAC but falling on Triple A and not visible anywhere else) so I'd worry a bit about it but yeah, it could easily do a Lights and it would be far too much for me to ask for both Rita AND Ed to flop so he'll surely blow up.

On another note, were we aware that the original version of Promises is hanging around just outside the top 100? It's currently #111. This is the Bassnectar remix of Lights situation in reverse, hopefully the original of Promises passes the remix at some point.

iirc the bass nectar remix is what got Lights in the chart in the first place, so Promises may do the same thing.

I am a bit worried about Ed Sheeran now. Seeing the runaway success of 1D and The Wanted, I thought Ed would be cakewalk as the song seems suited to all kinds of format.... but it's just not picking up. It needs some kind of boost like a late night talk show perf, but the problem is he did most of them leading up to the album release. :(

I'm starting to believe with Ed and also Olly Murs that the reason America's not happening for either of them - evident in how 'The A Team' and 'Heart Skips A Beat' have performed on iTunes and airplay - is because they're just not appreciated by the larger sector of America who want everything packaged neatly and targeted directly at them and their limited view of things. I know it's a common stereotype but it's almost as if they blanche at anything that's a bit quirky or different. It's different for One Direction, The Wanted and Cher Lloyd because all of them are sell outs in terms of the fact they've dumbed themselves down completely just for the sake of chart positions and all that crap - some doing better than others, mind.

Admittedly Columbia threw Rizzle Kicks off 'Heart Skips A Beat' to replace them with Chiddy Bang (biggest mistake after releasing the song to radio the minute Olly finished the US 1D tour and putting him on that tour in the first place) but even the US version of the video was still very much Olly's personality and sense of humour playing the football coach etc - he didn't dumb himself down or change anything about what we love about him back here. Likewise with Ed Sheeran, he didn't have to change anything about himself, his songs etc and I applaud them both much more for that. TBH if it works out for neither of them in the States they've both still got a strong enough following back here and in mainland Europe to continue doing well.

Have you actually been following Heart Skips A Beat at all lately? It's making very good progress right now.

Dark Side #30. :) Finally making progress.

EDIT - The video for 'Wings' got released to iTunes an went as high as #9 before getting deleted! :o

Well then why is it never mentioned on the Airplay updates thread?

 Not every song gets mentioned every day in the radio thread. Heart Skips A Beat is not currently getting tracked, that doesn't mean it's not getting played. Don't just assume it's bombing because it's not being reported about everywhere, find out for yourself.

Anyway, random updates woo etc:

The A Team  #112 (technically down but only marginally, not making much of any progress in any case)

Pound The Alarm  #129

Heart Skips A Beat  #202 (temporary blip I'm guessing)

Primadonna  #466 (this is gaining on radio again but it just won't stop falling on iTunes :()

Hopefully the radio rise will help it :( she deserves this more than Olly

1. Flo Rida - Whistle (100%)

2. Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe (90%)

3. Katy Perry - Wide Awake (65%)

4. fun. - Some Nights (60%)

5. Cher Lloyd - Want U Back (55%)

CMM is opening a big lead over Wide Awake. Looks like an 8th week at #1 on the Hot 100.

Anyone know 'Home' by Phillip Phillips is back up to #8?!

Came here to ask the same thing.

Apparently it's being used in Olympic coverage in the US? And I also read it's broken top 20 on Adult radio but I doubt that's to do with it.

Shame how Flo Rida does so well on iTunes/sales but is never able to pull it big enough on airplay that he can nab an overall #1. Ellie needs to climb :(

I know but some of us can't get accounts on Billboard.com, hence why I come here to find out...

Um OK...

Airplay is actuallly climbing too AFAIK (at least on Adult Contemporay) - is it really just because of use as a particularly loved soundbed for American coverage of the Olympics?
