So basically I've just read through an absolutely pointless discussion about a song title and a piece of artwork.

Like a normal person, I'll be holding my comments until the song actually drops.

How's it PRETENCIOUS? It's pure art and smart creativity, the album's name is ARTPOP after all. Pretentious would be her standing next to a painting with a paint brush or her clapping hands for example (Applause). Were yall expecting Gaga to be PLAIN or a Leona Lewis like single cover of her just THERE? :drama: She's a pop star, not Miss Congeniality, pop stars reinvent themselves for those who have forgotten.

Just because she's a massive pop star doesn't make her pretentious to step away from a generic OH LOOK I'M IN SHADES STANDING WITH HOT GUYS IN THE BACKGROUND!!1 type of cover for one era. A bit stupid to call anything that isn't cheap and easy pretentious because you may not necessarily understand what's behind the image and stuff. I may not understand the message but I definitely appreciate the art. It's different Gagz and I love it.
The artwork isn't so much BAD as... at odds with what she should be aiming to achieve with this campaign. The other promo images were so natural, and really portrayed a woman who knew what she was doing with great pop (the one where she sits on the electronic equipment in particular was marvellous, symbolising her working with the production and so on while still showing off how pretty she can be). The marketing looked 100% on point. But this is completely different and the public are just going to see Lady Pretentious 2.0 here. Seems like "one step forward, two steps back".

Most accurate post of the thread.

She really should have stuck with the original promo snaps, especially for the first single. Lady Pretentious can't make a comeback - that has to stay with Born this Way and be a blip in her career.

It's very 80s Pet Shop Boys or David Bowie...

Yeah, I was thinking that today, specifically David Bowie - even more so when "art rock" was a genre David Bowie was associated with (very similar to Gaga's album title).

I don't see how it's pretentious given it's her in a performance outfit with a song about applause ie. what you'd expext (but with an arty twist of course). I guess that word has become synonymous with her now though for some people so whatever she does it'll get that label.
Wait until all those haters start licking her arse when the song premieres (and it's good) OOPS and as if a first single cover could make an impact on ANYTHING nevermind actually make some fans un-like Gagz. Ridonko-donkulous much?

I would just like to say that this may be one of the BEST POSTS OF ALL TIME. Agree 110%.

You "gagz" loons have got even more insufferable than the last time I came in here. I also hate the name gagz as it implies she is a joke of some sort.

I am hoping this will be good as I have loved the minority of music from the past two eras but this is all looking even more pretentious than last time around.

Oddly this is one of the only times post The Fame Monster where I think she ISN'T being pretentious. I don't particularly LIKE the imagery she's going for, but at least there seems to be something behind it.

Oh and I am cautiously optimistic for the single. I hope she's ready to bring just a good old fashioned corker of a song this time. I don't mind if the video/single cover/''message'' is hyped up to the max if the song is good.

I'm actually far from being a GaGz (yes I used it again SUE MEH) loon, if you're including me in that bunch. :D

Just a NON-LOON look at things.

@AllThatPop_: DJ White Shadow: co-writer of Applause. Has said that it will be a fun track, with no political message whatsoever, makes you tap your feet.

Can y'all calm down now?!

This. I'm sorry but it's like something off ATRL. I adore her but there is such a thing as slight objectivity :(

I wouldn't be suprised if Applause is anything but what it's described to be. There is always something controvertial when it comes to a Lady Gaga single and music video post Poker Face. Very excited still!
give me that thing that I love

The ARTPOP app is Free, available in App Stores on your device. You can purchase the music through the ARTPOP app once it's downloaded. Or you can purchase the album at the music store+download the free app separately at the app store. The App is Available Worldwide. The APP is in essence, an interactive jewel case.

The single 'Applause' and its MUSIC VIDEO will BOTH debut on same day. ARTPOP. 8/19 -GAGA

great cover

Good move releasing the video on the same day the song is released. That should work in it's favor for first week sales (albeit the song is good).

Hopefully she'll keep the video short and sweet. I can't be bothered with the 10+ minute long videos this era.
