Posted September 3, 201212 yr Who has never had their name read out on the UK top 40 countdown? PJ Harvey must be an obvious one despite top 2 albums.
September 3, 201212 yr Laura Marling's had two #4 albums, and hasn't had a Top 40 hit (or Top 75 for that matter). This should be quite a interesting thread actually!
September 3, 201212 yr II Divo have had three number one albums, and a further two Top 10 albums without a Top 40 single.

September 3, 201212 yr Two Door Cinema Club 056 Something Good Can Work 064 What You Know 079 Undercover Martyn 139 I Can Talk Though interestingly, 'Something Good Can Work' peaked at #18 in Ireland.
September 3, 201212 yr Author I stand corrected with PJ Harvey. Blimey...would have thought Two Door Cinema Club would have been close..alas not so.
September 3, 201212 yr Didn't Lonely Boy chart thought, unless I dreamt it Yep but only at something like #80.
September 3, 201212 yr The majority of classical singers who have hit albums over Christmas don't usually have Top 40 singles - II Divo (like I mentioned), Katherine Jenkins, Andre Rieu etc.
September 3, 201212 yr Gorky's Zygotic Mynci have been top 50 five times with three other hits peaking at 52, 60 & 65 yet have never had a top 40 hit, and possibly never will as of 2006, they've now split up. Yep, I did just look that up. Edited September 3, 201212 yr by C.W
September 3, 201212 yr Two Door Cinema Club - Albums: #24 & probably top 3 (First certified Gold) Bombay Bicycle Club - Albums: #46, #8 & #6 (All certified Gold) Lead singer of Two Door Cinema Club did get top 40 with Caliban's Dream however

Yep, I did just look that up. Their lead singer formed a side project with Norman Blake from Teenage Fanclub last year called Jonny, which yielded a rather nice single: VDeZPvn_EDA
September 3, 201212 yr Janis Joplin has never had a top 40 as far as I can tell from looking around, she is surely a big enough name to be counted? EDIT: Beaten to it :P Also if we're being pedantic then Laura Marling doesn't count, she was in Noah & The Whale when they had 5 Years Time go top 10 :P Edited September 3, 201212 yr by Liаm
September 3, 201212 yr Author Found an example with Yellowcard....#63 was their summit with 'Ocean Avenue' in 2004. Always thought that was a top 40 hit!
September 3, 201212 yr I was going to say Janis Joplin too. She falls into the same category as Etta James did (before she died/had a song appear in an ad) - which is a legend without a top 40 hit. Was also going to say Laura Marling too. My two have already been said.
September 3, 201212 yr Carrie Underwood's the biggest selling talent show artist but has not had a top 40, nor top 100 single here. She had a #11 album though.
September 3, 201212 yr In the current singles top 100 there are only five who have never had a top 40 single, 2 of which are on the same song: Annger Dimas Iggy Azalea Big Hits 2012 Otto Knows Jessie Ware And the albums top 100: (again, artists who have not had a T40 single) Black Keys Jessie Ware Slaughterhouse (?) Two Door Cinema Club Nicola Benedetti (?) Twin Atlantic Alt-J Gaslight Anthem Robert Cray Band (?) Spector Edited September 3, 201212 yr by Thermometer
