Who has never had their name read out on the UK top 40 countdown?

PJ Harvey must be an obvious one despite top 2 albums.

I don't think The Black Keys have had a top 40 hit have they?
Laura Marling's had two #4 albums, and hasn't had a Top 40 hit (or Top 75 for that matter). This should be quite a interesting thread actually!

I stand corrected with PJ Harvey.

Blimey...would have thought Two Door Cinema Club would have been close..alas not so.

Yep but only at something like #80.

The majority of classical singers who have hit albums over Christmas don't usually have Top 40 singles - II Divo (like I mentioned), Katherine Jenkins, Andre Rieu etc.
Gorky's Zygotic Mynci have been top 50 five times with three other hits peaking at 52, 60 & 65 yet have never had a top 40 hit, and possibly never will as of 2006, they've now split up. Yep, I did just look that up.

Two Door Cinema Club - Albums: #24 & probably top 3 (First certified Gold)

Bombay Bicycle Club - Albums: #46, #8 & #6 (All certified Gold)

Lead singer of Two Door Cinema Club did get top 40 with Caliban's Dream however

Their lead singer formed a side project with Norman Blake from Teenage Fanclub last year called Jonny, which yielded a rather nice single:

Janis Joplin has never had a top 40 as far as I can tell from looking around, she is surely a big enough name to be counted?

EDIT: Beaten to it :P Also if we're being pedantic then Laura Marling doesn't count, she was in Noah & The Whale when they had 5 Years Time go top 10 :P

Found an example with Yellowcard....#63 was their summit with 'Ocean Avenue' in 2004. Always thought that was a top 40 hit!

I was going to say Janis Joplin too.

She falls into the same category as Etta James did (before she died/had a song appear in an ad) - which is a legend without a top 40 hit.

Was also going to say Laura Marling too.

My two have already been said.

Carrie Underwood's the biggest selling talent show artist but has not had a top 40, nor top 100 single here. She had a #11 album though.

In the current singles top 100 there are only five who have never had a top 40 single, 2 of which are on the same song:

Annger Dimas

Iggy Azalea

Big Hits 2012

Otto Knows

Jessie Ware

And the albums top 100: (again, artists who have not had a T40 single)

Black Keys

Jessie Ware

Slaughterhouse (?)

Two Door Cinema Club

Nicola Benedetti (?)

Twin Atlantic

Alt-J

Gaslight Anthem

Robert Cray Band (?)

Spector
