Coldplay to get Paralympics sales boost

Source: OCC

Following their performance at Sunday’s (September 9) Paralympics Games closing ceremony, Coldplay look set to dominate this week’s Official Singles and Official Albums Charts.

According to today’s Official Charts Company’s sales data, the band currently have nine tracks in the Official Singles Chart midweek Top 100 and all five of their studio albums are currently in today’s midweek Official Albums Chart Top 100.

Of their singles, Princess Of China FT Rihanna looks set to chart the highest, jumping from Number 51 to 29, while Paradise is up 52 places from Number 92 to Number 40. The band’s 2005 Number 4 hit Fix You is up a massive 97 places to Number 74, while 2008’s Viva La Vida surges 148 places from 192 to 44.

Re-entering the Official Singles Chart from outside the Top 200, today the band’s 2000 Top 5 hit Yellow is at 58, 2002’s The Scientist is at Number 60, Charlie Brown is at 87, Clocks is at 91 and Every Tear Is A Waterfall is at 93.

Over on the Official Albums Chart, the band’s latest full-length, Mylo Xyloto, is on course to climb 14 places to Number 6, 2005’s X&Y is up 131 places from Number 194 to Number 63, and Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends climbs 138 places from Number 186 to 48.

Both 2002’s A Rush Of Blood To The Head and Coldplay’s 2000 debut album, Parachutes, re-enter the Official Albums Chart from outside the Top 200 at Number 53 and Number 61, respectively.

With PSB in the top 4, the rest of the top 4 has to be new entries from The Script, The XX and Bob Dylan, but in which order. possiblity the Vaccines down to #5 and 2DCC down to #6

xx currently #1 with nearly 25k sold, however #ukmidweeks

UK midweeks: Amelia Lily #1 with nearly 30k sold in singles chart - in albums looks like an xx and The Script chart battle!

I originally believed the Script would be easily number 1, while they may not be in pole position at the moment i do believe they will end up there at the end of the week, sales should be relatively decent in the top 5 this week which is nice to see. Additionally, i would love Joe McElderry to hold his top 10 position, however, sitting at number 9 looks risky for him, that said he could also start climbing.

Lovely as always to see the Pet Shop Boys on the chat but i would predict they will slip throughout the week and possibly end up number 8, and no dount will completly plummet like a rock next week.

If The Script are within 5k of XX they'll probably nick it on Sunday, but probably pushing 50k for both.
I'm useless at these prediction things but I think XX will be just shy of 50k by the end of the week.

If Amelia is nearly 30k she probably do half of that for today, her total sales are looking like 80k-ish for the week, maybe less, it could end up pretty tight at the end of the week, if NeYo or the Script catch up.
80k should be enough to beat their 2nd week sales, especially as they just managed that last week
I still think Ne-Yo will be number one this week as she's only got a 10% lead over Ne-Yo and she's already started decreasing!
Interesting album news. I think The Script will end up at #1 too. I thought Joe McElderry would be a bit higher on the first chart but he usually climbs towards the end of the week and I can see the Pet Shop Boys falling through the week, so Top 5 end of the week may look very different.
About 65k for Amelia will that be enough for #1? I was hoping Bob Dylan would be #1 with this album.

Not sure why everyone expects The Script to overtake The xx? I think they'll be equally frontloaded. 25k first day is brilliant for 'Coexist', hopefully on for a 50k+ opening. EDIT: Oh, not quite 25k, maybe it won't do 50k but hopefully still 45k+. A 4.5k lead over The Script should be more than enough for them to hold onto #1 I reckon.

Can probably be assumed to be an all-new top 4 in the albums today (EDIT: yup :P), I think it'll remain an all-new top 3 but can't see Pet Shop Boys staying that high. 'Mylo Xyloto' should overtake it for a return to the top 5 hopefully :D

Have a feeling Joe is going to hold onto the top 10 by the skin of his teeth despite only being #9 today, it's more a question of if it has a chart run more similar to 'Wide Awake' or 'Classic'. He'll become the first XF act to chart with 4 different albums and all of them in the top 20, possibly 3 out of 4 top 10.

Nice to see all of Coldplay's top 100 positions being reported, fingers crossed the 5 albums will all stay in and at least the six highest songs.

I could see Pet Shop Boys dropping to #6 if Coldplay can hold up well and enter the Top 5. I’m sure The Vaccines will be #4.
What's the Tuesday multiplier for an album in its second week, 3x? 15k wouldn't be bad for "Come Of Age".
