According to the Official Charts Company’s latest sales data, Gangnam Style is just 22,000 copies behind mid-week leaders The Script and Will.I.Am’s Hall Of Fame. And with sales of Gangnam Style accelerating by an average of 20% each day this week, and Friday and Saturday's sales still to be counted, could Psy become the first ever K-pop star to hit Number 1 in the UK?

22K in a day and a half? no way, 10K MAX... but next week it's him for SURE.

OK, you're right but still... 11K closing gap in a day? it's only 15% ahead and were in the final hours in Friday... the gap will be 10K at the end.

FUCK YES! :D So pleased they've managed it with (relative) ease. I do hope they can somehow scrape the 100k, but I'm thinking 92k (which is still excellent for todays climate).

Even that would send them straight into the top 60 YTD.

Could Gangnam Style hit Number 1 on Sunday?

With over 227 million video views on YouTube, and celebrity endorsements from the likes of Justin Bieber and Britney Spears, Gangnam Style by South Korean rapper Psy has become a hit all around the world. The UK seems to be in the throes of Gangnam Style-fever, with sales currently surging it's not out of the realms of possibility that the track could hit Number 1 on the UK’s Official Singles Chart this weekend, too.

On Sunday (September 16) Gangnam Style finally broke into the Official Singles Chart Top 40, hitting Number 37 four weeks after its UK release. In Wednesday’s Official Chart Update, the track surged up 21 places to Number 16. Today (Friday, September 21) it has climbed even further, smashing into the Top 10 at Number 6.

Maybe - but not *this* week - just too much to do!

22k is far too big a gap to close but The Script are probably miles ahead of Ne-Yo so I should think he'll have no problem closing the gap to #3 and he might even have a shot at #2. And now he's #1 on iTunes with an already rapidly growing lead, #1 next week is pretty much certain. Really unbelievable how much this has taken off, I do hope it's a one-off though, really couldn't deal with a whole K-pop invasion :P

Mumford & Sons climbing and Conor/Ne-Yo top 20 :D

Good to see The Vaccines up a place to #11 since Wednesday (hope to see it in the Top 10 for Sunday, maybe if Carly falls out?), Rita Ora up a couple of places, and Joe McElderry back in the Top 20 as I predicted – wouldn’t rule out it climbing back into the Top 15.

I think PSY will get high as #2 on Sunday just depends how well the rest of the top 5 will do over the weekend, I'm surprised its taken off so quickly over here, not sure if the track will hang on for 2 weeks though, if the track gets to #1 first, with One D releasing the following week. I'm also predicting PSY is going to have #1 hit wonder, I don't see a follow up single on the horizon at all.

I see Pink has dropped off on iTunes pretty much fallen quite a bit, I was thinking she get a new peak, but I doubt she will now, when PSY is ahead of her.

Wonder if it could challenge 1D?

That would be both hilarious and brilliant but the chances of it happening are fairly slim. I still wouldn't be at all surprised if PSY returned to no. 1 the week after despite new releases from Leona Lewis and Swedish House Mafia.

Will wait to see sales update but excellent to see The Killers leading and looking at over 100k. Carly Rae Jepsen appears to be doing a Katy Perry with the album doing surprisingly poorly given how massive the first single was. Still, "One Of The Boys" managed to accumulate pretty good overall sales so maybe "Kiss" will do likewise.

Vaccines update please?

I know I've said this before, but I think Carly is actually doing better than expected! With this weird release strategy of having Good Time (the release of which was messed up itself) ending up as the lead single over a month prior to the album release, I doubt many people release 'Kiss' has been released. In that respect, I think its done brilliant to (so far) achieve a top 10 position - I hope it can stay there!

Of course Call Me Maybe was massive, but the amount of casual buyers that attracted - Carly hasn't had a chance to build up much of a core fanbase who would actually spend £10 on an album. Hopefully when her next singles are successful, this fanbase can begin to grow. Possibly how Katy's did with 'Hot N Cold'.
