The Christmas album wasn't cheesy enough by them and it didn't get promoted that well at all. Like others i bought it out of loyalty but its their only album i don't have much time for.

^^Agree with the above, I was expecting cheesy disco pop versions of Christmas classics - I think it could have been a decent seller for them if they had gone down that route (They done a camp version of ‘Merry Xmas Everyone’ previously which is amazing!).

I was so disappointed when I first heard the album - such a missed opportunity and they only half arsed promoted it compared to this era.

The song Light Up The World is definitely one of their under-rated gems, the 7th heaven mix is really good too

I think Steps try to pull away from Light Up the World as they don't discuss it much or give the songs exposure.

It was a mismanaged release all round.

Yeah, it does seem to be somewhat forgotten by them, even in recent tour setlists Light Up The World has always been forgotten. Like obviously playing Christmas songs at certain times of year would be weird but the title track doesn’t explicitly mention Christmas and would work in a tour so I’d like to see it included in a future tour.

The song is quite magical

I’ve always loved the QVC performance, although a shopping channel does seem like an odd place to perform

I think so too! I think it was some their biggest misstep in their career. If they would have camped up the songs it might have worked. Now it’s a dull Christmas album, nothing like Steps at all imo!

Never actually knew this performance existed, it’s actually quite nice.

I still prefer the 7th Heaven Remix though.

I just think the LUTW song is so naff it's just a bit too cheesy even for Steps, yet not cheesy enough that it's a guilty pleasure ala Scooch or something.
Yeah. I feel like they were trying to push such a grown up narrative that they could have alienated their entire fanbase. They didn't clearly, thankfully! I don't think it's a terrible song mind you, because I could imagine other artists singing it. It just does not suit Steps one bit

I feel like with a Christmas album they needed to totally camp it up, put their cover of Merry Xmas everybody on there and record covers of other classics like I wish it could be Christmas everyday, Jingle bell rock, Last Christmas then maybe some modern ones like Underneath the tree by Kelly or One more sleep (were these released by this point?). Bung some new camptastic songs on there ala Girls Aloud I wanna kiss you so (under the mistletoe) and Not tonight Santa alongside a couple of ballads like Light up the world, Silent night, Dear Santa etc and it would have been either amazing or so bad that it was amazing. Call it something Steps related like Step Into Christmas (maybe record Elton John's song and release that as the single) it's a package and a concept!

I actually do like a few of the songs on the album, I gave it a listen for the first time last year and there are some lovely tracks, but it's NOT Steps.

Light Up The World came out one year before Kelly and Leona’s albums.

I agree though. If Steps ever did another Christmas album both would be on my wish list for track list.

I actually think if Steps did a Christmas album now they would do something like above and get it spot on. They've clearly realised their fans are here for the big tracks with the occasional ballads dropped in.

I agree, maybe we’ll get one next year. I’m not against one of done right.

I agree I think they would do a better job of a christmas album if they done it now but I'm also not a huge fan of Christmas albums

Can I get a Steps cover of Last Christmas in the vein of 'Cascadas Cover' to go please! x

I'll take 50!

I absolutely loved Cascada during Everytime we Touch and the following two albums and this cover was quite frankly, a fantastic spin on a Christmas Classic. I could Imagine Steps doing something similar?

Yeah I’m not a big fan of most of them. Love Leona’s though.

I also think that Ava Max’s Christmas Without You could work for them.
