No...

I think it is. I mean, position-wise 1D and RiRi are obviously very close but when you look at Kworb there's a huge difference in their percentages. The only reason 1D aren't #1 yet is because PSY had an absolutely massive lead over everyone else and that takes time to eat up. 1D have #1, Rihanna really hasn't got a chance unless they're exceptionally frontloaded.

Thnking about it if Rihanna beats 1D this week it would be the second time she has beat 1D to a UK #1. Last year she beat them in the album chart with TTT and UAN.

The best thing too about 'Diamonds' getting an instant release is that it's more likely to continue selling throughout the week as more people discover the track is available to download. Unlike 1D whose main sales will all be today. I'm still convinced that by Saturday night, Rihanna will be no. 1 on iTunes although if 1D perform next weekend on the first X Factor live show, that should help maintain their sales and avoid a sudden drop off in sales like 'WMYB' initially suffered.

BIB: Apparently next week it is Leona and Ne-Yo performing... ;)

Ellie  #13 - slow and steady wins the race.

Modest must be shitting themselves that this hasn't flown straight to number one overnight even with all the buying out of The Sun and Nick Grimshaw's SHITE new breakfast show...in other news I downloaded Rihanna ;)

I did too :). I also think Mr. Cowell and the team at SyCo will not be happy either. TBH i think 1D's will be extremely frontloaded with all the teens downloading it today asap where as I think Rihanna will just grow and grow over the week.

Which they are, but it is still 99% certain that One Direction will be number one come Sunday, although I do think it could be possible for Rihanna to be number one on iTunes near the end of the week if it grows in popularity a lot.

2. Live While We're Young - One Direction

3. Diamonds - Rihanna

476. Live While We're Young (Jump Smokers Remix) - One Direction

Just though this might be worth pointing out:

241. Esta Noche - Big Hits 2012

Modest must be shitting themselves

lol. I doubt it.

They're one of the biggest pop acts in the world atm, and #2 on UK iTunes (and probably doing just as well in many other countries). There's absolutely nothing for them to be worried about.

Calm down, just because it means that Olly Murs won't be filling in for Comedy Dave for another week ;)

'Something Good' isn't a new release, it's the album version that's been out for months.

Isn't that Azelia Banks' new single? I've heard it once on radio, but I can't remember how it goes. :P

It's available on 7 inch this week, but it's still worth a mention on how it's doing on iTunes, I think.

For massive acts like Rihanna and One Direction - yes. For newcomers and lesser known acts held back releases are the way to go. Would Rita Ora have scored 3 #1s this year if they were all OA/OS? I don't think any of them would've got #1 without being held back.

For every point people make about this there is always an example which proves various points to be wrong. I genuinely think RIP would have went top 10 easily with an early release as the video is massive and the song got played everywhere. RIP would have sold ALOT more as an OA/OS release whereas a 8 week held back release meant it went to no1 but only is going to be top 30 in the ytd by december!

What about say I Need a Dollar by Aloe Blacc - was he well known when it was released it went to no2 by gradually rising to the top through popularity

Its released this week as the 4th single from the album and this is the impact date as they sometimes call it!

And this is relevant to Olly because...? Get back in your cage.

Excuse the stupid question, I'm not keeping up with this but what does OA/OS mean?

On Air/On Sale - means it's gets it's first airplay at the same time it's released for download etc ;)
