Jahmene Douglas - I actually think he has a really nice voice when he isn't oversinging and ruining everything with those big notes, while also going out of tune on the transitions. That performance was better than usual as he only packed the unlistenable stuff in at the end. I enjoyed the song choice too. - 6.5/10

I thought the song choices for most were horrendous tonight. I wouldn't be surprised if any of 7/8 acts are in the Bottom 2.

Edited by connor111

Only Carolynne and Kye impressed me tonight. There's at least five acts I want to leave tomorrow
I seriously think there will be two groups in the bottom 2 tomorrow. I also slightly worry for Jade.
i predict the bottom 2 will be out of District 3, Carolynne Poole and MK1 with hopefully one of the groups going home

I think the ones in danger tomorrow night are MK1, Jade and Carolynne unfortunately for the girls. I can't see Christopher being in danger because he has just been voted back in and the two boybands seem to have too much support on Twitter to be in the bottom two in the first week. I am hoping its not a Jade and Carolynne bottom two, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I suspect MK1 may be in danger because of everyone saying they will, but the crowd were really behind them, and they were one of the better acts.

I really hope District 3 and Christopher are bottom 2 with Chris going.

One of the boybands will be bottom two. It's inevitable. I reckon it will be District 3 but it should be Union J.

Ok, here are my X Factor Week 1 ratings:

09/10 Melanie - With A Little Help From My Friends

What a performance!!! Melanie caught my attention with her first audition and instantly drew comparison to Florence Welsh, even though Melanie is 15 years older (or something like that). There's no denying she's got powerhouse vocals that grab your attention and refuse to let go. I wouldn't want her to oversing every week as that would start to get tiresome.

09/10 Jade - Hero

Now this was a performance that really stood out and made me pay attention. Throughout the auditions/bootcamp stages, Jade has probably had less airtime than some of the others. Tonight, this was like the moment where Will Young performance in the first live final and suddenly people started to notice him more. I have high hopes for Jade and I agreed with the judges, she does have a unique tone to her voice.

08/10 Kye - Man In The Mirror

He still reminds me Matt Cardle II but I thought he gave a great performance.

08/10 Carolynne - Starships

Well, when I realised she was singing 'Starships' my heart sunk for a split second. Then she started to sing the verse in a very unlike Nicki Minaj way and by the chorus I found myself enjoying the performance. Turning this into a country pop song is what I call a risk but I think Carolynne managed to pull that off.

07/10 Ella - Rule The World

It had its moments of greatness but overall it kind of slipped in places. Ella seemed to strain on some of the big notes but that could just be down to nerves.

06/10 Lucy - Mountains

Tulisa: For the first time ever on The X Factor we have a contestant singing their own track. Chico AGOG!!! :o

Considering it was a track I've never heard before (no, I didn't buy Lucy's album before it got removed from iTunes :P ) I thought it was ok. However, are they going to just let Lucy sing her own songs every week? I think they should therefore allow the other contestants to perform their own songs too. Well, it's only fair after all. Why should Lucy be given all the special treatment?

06/10 James - What Doesn't Kill You

His performance didn't half make me think of Professor Green whilst he did that rap middle 8. Sort of ruined the performance for me slightly. I still find his tone interesting but he looks like a miserable sod who sucks the life out of the party.

05/10 Christopher - Hero

What a clichéd song choice, so very X Factor 2008 and ultimately dated as hell. This was like watching Westlife on CD:UK in 1999 only having all the band members rolled into one over emotional Scoucer. I knew Christopher make win the Wildcard vote. I mean, did anyone really think the other three stood a chance. This fella has already had far too much airtime, and how many more times are we going to see his nan? Having a nan does not make you a great artist. If that was the case, every person on earth should therefore be a great artist. Pfft!!! Anyways, semi rant over, he probably gave one of the better vocal performances but the song choice was just far too predictable for my liking.

04/10 District3 - Simply The Best

As much as I like Tina Turner's version, I didn't like the arrangement they used. It just seemed a bit desperate to be edgy and cool and it just came across a bit fake and transparent. However, of the two boybands I would say District3 had the better vocal harmonies.

04/10 Rylan - Gold

I suppose this is what we've come to expect from Rylan then. It's like he's this years joke act even though he has proved he can sing. He'll last a few weeks - enough to guarantee a spot on the X Factor tour definitely. I just don't think very much of him as a popstar.

03/10 MK1 - Champion/Everyone's A Winner

Vocally this was horrndous at times. The lad sounded out of tune for the duration of the performance whilst the girl was getting pitchy through being excited. She needs to tone down the levels of excitement. He needs to listen to the backing track. Of the three groups, I'd actually choose MK1 as my favourite but performances like this won't help. Sadly, I think MK1 could also be bottom 2 tomorrow night.

02/10 Jahmene - Imagine

I'll give him 2 for the first verse but nothing for those TRAGIC adlibs. Obviously there will be people listening to those "vocals" and creaming themselves thinking it's the best male vocals they have ever heard. They really AREN'T!!! :( I couldn't bare to listen to an album of that. I still think he lacks any form of personality and just comes across as just there and nothing else. I want to see him do an uptempo track just to see how he fares.

01/10 Union J - Don't Stop Me Now

Oh man, this was ABYSMAL to say the least. The irony of the lyrics "i'm having such a good time" just didn't match what my eyes were seeing. They didn't look happy and it was the least convincing performance I saw tonight. I'll be gobsmacked if Union J aren't in the bottom 2 tomorrow night.

Bottom 2 prediction: MK1 Vs Union J - Louis will most likely be the first to lose an act tomorrow night.

Oh my, I think it's gonna be between MK1 & District3 in the bottom 2. I hope District3 don't leave.

08: Jahmene

04: Carolynne

7.5: Ella

08: Kye

6.5: Rylan

09: Jade

04: Union J

04: Chris

04: MK!

02: Lucy

08: James

07: Melanie

05: District3

Carolynne was BAD. It was sung weird and she is SO unlikeable it's unreal. Please, you failed at Fame Academy, go work in ASDA.

I thought Lucy was ridiculous too. When you take away her song (which was abysmal tonight) she really cannot sing. She spok her way through it.

The rest were very MEHHHH, although I think Rylan stood out for not being as bad as I expected. I quite liked his performance.

Performance of the night for me was Jade though. Totally loved her.

Jade was the stand out for me. If she's anywhere near the bottom 2 I'll be devasted.

I think MK1, Jade, District 3 and Union J are in danger, but I hope its Christopher.

Thoughts on tonight;

District3 - crap. The singing did not fit the instrumental at all. Parts of it sounded like they were trying and failing to be Justin Bieber in boyband form and then there was the Westlife-esque keychange and none of it worked. They clearly can sing and I want to like them more but if their performances are all going to be that crap then... 2/10

James Arthur - much better than previous performances from him but he just has a bad voice. The rap was a bit of a weird moment, didn't really fit in at all. 3.5/10

Melanie Masson - too shouty. 3/10

Lucy Spraggan - I actually really like her and her songs but this is really not the show for her, she'd be MUCH better suited to Britain's Got Talent. 8.5/10

MK1 - decent enough but the girl's vocals weren't great. 5/10

Christopher Maloney - good voice but uninteresting. 4/10

Union J - absolutely awful, take the 'singing did not fit the instrumental' from District3 but EVEN WORSE. 1/10

Jade Ellis - good voice but uninteresting. 3.5/10

Rylan Clark - he actually has quite a good voice but obviously the designated joke act of the year. Joke act/10

Kye Sones - just uninteresting, not really getting the love for him just yet. Maybe he'll grow on me. 3/10

Ella Henderson - brilliant, the best of the night by an absolute mile. Powerful vocals without being shouty which hasn't happened on XF for ages. 9.5/10

Carolynne Poole - was expecting a lot worse from a 'country' version of 'Starships', though I wouldn't have identified that as a country version if they didn't mention it every 3 seconds in the VT and the comments. Decent. 6/10

Jahmene Douglas - meh. 2/10

Overall: poor.
