Excellent to see SHM at the top... shame it isn't the 6 minute version though

Gooooo Swedish House Mafia, good to see an act from yet another different country getting a hold on the UK #1 spot this year :D South Korea, Australia, France, New Zealand, US, Holland, UK, Canada, South Korea, Barbados, Ireland and now Swedish acts will have had UK #1's this year if SHM get there!
They flopped because their music is clearly no longer relevant in the charts!

Not so - it's because they have a significant CD-single-buying fanbase who can no longer contribute the their sales...

No sign of Mariah, or the Pogues yet, but I suspect they're closing on the T1000 now... :)

So your argument follows that because they don't produce a physical product then fans don't buy a digital copy?

That SHM single it's like their worst to date, can't see appeal at all, but i'm glad to see something different on top!

I still think 'Save The World' is by far the worst one, although this isn't quite as great as 'One (Your Name)' or 'Greyhound'.

Vidcapper's ultra accurate prediction skills strike again :o

(Yay for them finally getting number 1, now I can stop looking at iTunes obsessively whenever I can [/geek] :drama: )

I still believe my point stands then?

Wonder if we will get many in the chart this holiday season - will they get reduced to 59p like last december or will the x factor have a xmas songs week which usually give them a boost and most importantly for me will we get a new xmas classic this year?

It's easy to say that, but I've noticed over the past couple of years that the likes of Radio 1 don't like supporting artists who have been around for over 10 years, which is a shame as if it carries on like that it means all acts have such a short shelf life regardless of what they do. :(

I agree with what you say although they have always been like this, if an artist comes back with a relevant hit they will still gtet played imo. My point was basically that people who loved kylie even 10 years ago have now grown up a bit and buy her albums etc so their singles have lower chart peaks. Similar to say Paul Weller who still goes into the top 40 with a new release but its a fanbase buy and unbelievably Weller was last on the 'radio 1' playlist a recently as 2000 which to me isnt long ago!
Absolutely chuffed that Leona is #5 with Trouble right now! With the complete lack of support from TV and radio especially really happy to see it top 5 :)

Apart from the X Factor you mean, the biggest entertainment show on TV?!

I think Radio 1 pretty much entirely base it on the artist's profile, of course you get the occasional exception like when J-Lo released 'On The Floor' (although she's now faded back to obscurity quickly). Around the time of 2000 they were so much more diverse and accepting of what they would playlist, it almost makes me sad to look at a retro playlist.

Id hardly say they have totally ignored Leona, radio 1 blisted her and shes on radio 2 playlist - maybe that will translate into larger album than single sales?

An X Factor performance aint bad promo either!!

Totally agree, thay have accepted the monopolistic capital radio view of things when it comes to their playlist - reducing the amount of songs to 15 a month ago symbolised that but as long as they alist a good variety of indie songs(the killers,XX,Two Door Cinema Club) i will still be happy because capital refuses to play anything non rhythmic pop sounding - it just makes the charts more generic imo.

Yeah the playlist had like 60 songs about 15 years ago - amazing!! :(
