November 6, 201212 yr "A Great Big Sled" is the best Killers Christmas single for me, shame it was chart eligible as it did by far the best on downloads (made #11 on that chart I think and got to #4 on iTunes at one stage) and should be regarded as a classic. That and The Darkness' single are the only new ones from the last ten years I regularly play every year now. Dont shoot me Santa is the only one that charted here simpley because it was released near the start of the week. Do you not like Christmas Lights - great track imo. Also Is this Christmas by the Wombats isnt bad - although it only charted at no48!
November 6, 201212 yr ^ Why so many peoples are happy with that awful Rage # 1. I don't understand it. I hate Simon Cowell and never was a fan of any music TV shows in X-Factor Style, but... Joe McElderry deserve to be # 1 in Christmas week 2009. He is a good singer (watch Popstar to Operastar). About that pointless Facebook campaigh : Song choice was AWFUL. It is the WORST UK # 1 for ALL 60 YEARS. We have some classic Christmas / New Year songs, which were HUGE hits, but didn't reach # 1 in UK : "All I Want For Christmas Is You", "Last Christmas", "Happy New Year". If you want to do another campaigh for X-Mas # 1, these 3 songs are the the best possible choice for it.
November 6, 201212 yr Are we still arguing about the 2009 xmas no1 race lol - we had 50 pages for the chart top 40 countdown that year - was immense!
November 6, 201212 yr Last Christmas I came across this song and I believe it can be a classic in the future, if someone famous covers it. H10f2w7T5CU And what a shame that this never got proper attention, even though this was recorded in 2000 at the peak of everything Britney. wrvebqA8xdM
November 6, 201212 yr Are we still arguing about the 2009 xmas no1 race lol - we had 50 pages for the chart top 40 countdown that year - was immense! I didn't have Internet in 2009, but I heard UK Singles Chart 40 on one Russian radiostation. Format was: 2-4 hours with most / all singles from official UK Singles Top 40 + 2-3 retro # 1 and fresh song, which is a favourite for the next week. I didn't know nothing about X-Factor and Facebook, but I liked Joe's song. When Joe was # 2, it was a disappointment for me, but when I heard the number # 1, that it was SHOCK. I LOST ALL MY FATE in UK charts after it. I'M SORRY for bumping it, but I remember about it in last 2 months of every year.
November 6, 201212 yr And what a shame that this never got proper attention, even though this was recorded in 2000 at the peak of everything Britney. wrvebqA8xdM   One from my favourite Christmas songs. I like it.

Joe McElderry deserve to be # 1 in Christmas week 2009. He is a good singer (watch Popstar to Operastar). And it was also one of the most bland, uninspired drivels ever to be recorded as a 'winners song'. I'm glad the public went with a thought provoking, shameless and entirely appropriate rock classic over that. It served its purpose excellently, the winners songs since then have at least been a bit more inspired. Genuinely my favourite chart battle of recent years, it was so unprecedented and unpredictable all the way through the week, I remember letting out a cheer when I heard the final result.
November 6, 201212 yr Too late. Any Christmas songs would have been written in the Summer as used to be the norm. The race to Christmas number one is a complete waste of time and Cowell just makes it even less interesting by releasing his latest puppet's first (and sometimes only) single a week before now. Not as a 'gesture of good will to charity' but because he doesn't want to be embarrassed by the X-Factor only going in at number 2. He should move it back as it would help sales of both if there were a genuine race. I bet Joe McElderry has had one of the highest selling winner singles because of the race with RATM. As for KITM being the worst number one of the last 60 years...it's definitely one of the most over-rated...but come on, kid.
November 6, 201212 yr The Florence Street Band Song is simply beautiful, thank you N-S for posting, i had never heard of this song before but i love it, songs like this is what should be the christmas number 1, thank you so much for posting it.
November 6, 201212 yr As for KITM being the worst number one of the last 60 years...it's definitely one of the most over-rated...but come on, kid. Yes, it was the worst UK # 1 SONG for me. P.S. : I don't count retro instrumental tracks from 50s-60s, ringtone from Crazy Frog and the same things.
November 6, 201212 yr Commonsense the X Factor single was released a week early last year, and got to number one, but not the xmas number one, which was the Military Wives charity single. The same will likely happen this year, with x factor winners single at number one the week before the xmas chart and the hillsborough charity single at no 1 for xmas. Of course with such poor ratings and lower sales for last years single the x factor could miss out on no1 altogether this year. Okay, thanks. I'd forgotten.
November 6, 201212 yr Author X Factor's contract is due for renewal next year, so we could be looking at the last series in 2013, Unless there will be a new show to replace it with the same format or renewed. To be honest its probably best to axe it, and have something different that can ran from April to Aug, that would leave the Xmas #1 wide open.

It is the WORST UK # 1 for ALL 60 YEARS. Totally agree. The campaign was good and exciting but the song is terrible, virtually unlistenable. Worst No.1 by far.

November 6, 201212 yr I think, that X-Factor winner would be # 1 in UK. On another hand: Steps with "Light Up The World" would be my last personal # 1 in 2012. This song have a spirit of the Christmas. SHAME, that it was realised very early. Nobody don't care about Christmas in late October - early November.
November 6, 201212 yr I'm not suggesting that he's got a chance of Number One, but Alex Day is releasing his new single in Christmas week so he may be a top 10 entry like last year.
November 6, 201212 yr I hate to sound like a snob but there does seem to be a striking correlation between people who hate "Killing In The Name" and people who have a terrible music taste.
November 6, 201212 yr I hate to sound like a snob but there does seem to be a striking correlation between people who hate "Killing In The Name" and people who have a terrible music taste. I have to agree with you. And I like X Factor winner music. -x- If Alex Day could barely get Top 15 with his second single, he's not going to get anywhere near with his third single. November 6, 201212 yr If Alex Day could barely get Top 15 with his second single, he's not going to get anywhere near with his third single.[/size] If it's in time for Christmas week, then it can easily get higher than his second single. I don't think his second single was in time for some special event, so why would anyone want to buy it aside from people who are actually fans of his.
November 6, 201212 yr Interesting that Rebecca Ferguson is going against the X Factor for a Christmas #1! She's been kicked off the charity record because she's happy to promote through The Sun.
