January 5, 201312 yr You know the BBC don't decide they ask "tastemakers" (about 300) who are various journalists and musos to say who they think will be big in 2013. I don't think they necessarily have to pick who will get the most number ones but who will release the best albums and can breakthrough into the public consciousness. Which is why there is never much pop there and in theory all the winners won't be in the same vein. It's odd a band had never won before but I think Haim are brilliant so I'm happy. I'm surprised Tom Odell missed the top 5 altogether.

January 5, 201312 yr I'm actually quite surprised at Haim winning. They seem more like the type of act who'd come fifth in this really, and I'd probably agree with wherever said that I'd expect them to get success that's similar as to what The Pierces had with their 2011 album. There's also fact that Tom Odell had the Critic's Choice award, they're not British, and it gives us a top 5 that consists solely of female vocalists. I do like them though, 'Don't Save Me' in particular. But it has to be said that I much prefer AlunaGeorge - I saw them live in November and Aluna has the most amazing stage presence, plus the songs just keep getting better and better.
January 5, 201312 yr Of course they did, who could forget the Bravery ;) The Bravery themselves are fairly forgettable but 'An Honest Mistake' is one of my favourite songs of all time
January 8, 201312 yr Haim - Send Me Down & Laura Mvula - Like The Morning Dew are currently free on iTunes
January 8, 201312 yr Haim are taking part in Secret 7"'s this year - done around Record Store Day. Others taking part are Laura Marling, Public Enemy, Elton John, Jessie Ware, Nick Drake and Nas. http://www.secret-7.com/ Must get my hands on one of those - I'd be happy no matter which 7" I chose.
