January 3, 201312 yr The Weeknd would be a good way of getting them a genuinely popular winner again so we COULD see that maybe? Hoping Haim can do it but I won't hold my breath.
January 3, 201312 yr Having looked at the overall list of nominations, perhaps Arlissa could be their surprise winner. She's already had a guest slot on Top Of The Pops so maybe they predict big things for 2013?
January 3, 201312 yr Surely the Critics' Choice winner won't miss the top 5 of the Sound of 2013 entirely? The two are normally pretty similar aren't they?
January 3, 201312 yr What is Haim - Don't Save Me from? I've heard the track on a soundtrack/advert I swear...
January 3, 201312 yr What is Haim - Don't Save Me from? I've heard the track on a soundtrack/advert I swear... Is it on Fifa 13? Quite a lot of new tracks end up on that game.
January 3, 201312 yr Is it on Fifa 13? Quite a lot of new tracks end up on that game. My first thought is that I'd heard it on Fifa 13, but it's not.
January 3, 201312 yr 2009 01 Little Boots (C. C. Nomination) 02 White Lies (C. C. Nomination) 03 Florence and the Machine (Critics Choice) 2010 01 Ellie Goulding (Critics Choice) 02 Marina and the Diamonds (C. C. Nomination) 03 Delphic (C. C. Nomination) 2011 01 Jessie J (Critics Choice) 02 James Blake (C. C. Nomination) 03 The Vaccines (C. C. Nomination) 2012 01 Michael Kiwanuka (C. C Nomination) 02 Frank Ocean 03 Azealia Banks * Emeli Sande won the C. Choice, Maverick Sabre was the third nomination; both excluded due to T20 charting singles though. Looking at it like this, the two seem to churn up the same T3 - with 2008, 2010 and 2011 having identical winners; while so2009 and so2012 were both nominated for C. Choice. With AlunaGeorge and Laura Mvula at #2 and #4; I'd be very, very surprised if Tom Odell didn't win the poll - it'd be the first time the C. Choice winner didn't feature in the T3.
January 3, 201312 yr The Blog Sound of 2013 top 5 have been announced, and they are: 1st Haim 2nd Chvrches 3rd= Savages 3rd= Pins 5th The Neighbourhood There's already some heated discussion on the Twittersphere about the results of that particular poll.
January 3, 201312 yr I haven't heard anything by Tom Odell (judging by comparisons to Ed Sheeran, I don't think I'd be too bothered so he can wait). I listened to tracks by Chvrches and Haim which were both brilliant - and a Palma Violets track, which wasn't. So far, out of the artists I've listened to, I'd rank them Haim > Chvrches > Palma Violets > AlunaGeorge. Tom Odell is nothing like Ed Sheeran. It's just a lazy comparison as they are both male solo singers

Who was the Critics' Choice winner last year if Kiwanuka didn't win? EDIT: EMELI SANDÉ?! Hadn't she already smashed the hell out of the charts by February 2012? It'll also be interesting to see, as Haim weren't eligible for Critics' Choice... Edited January 3, 201312 yr by Kanduälska
January 3, 201312 yr AlunaGeorge visually are SUCH a pretty duo it's INSANE. So much chemistry, even just on photos. Angel Haze
January 3, 201312 yr EDIT: EMELI SANDÉ?! Hadn't she already smashed the hell out of the charts by February 2012? She was nominated for Best Breakthrough that year as well! Something tells me that something was going on that we didn't know about.
January 3, 201312 yr Are you kidding? He's mentioned all the time on Radio 1! Haim are mentioned in articles as well, but they don't strike me as an act that would have long-term success in my opinion. I said seen. He hasn't really been mentioned much in the music sections of the papers or the blogosphere. And long-term success isn't really a constituent factor: Kiwanuka? Little Boots? Delphic? January 3, 201312 yr With reference to that award, yeah they do. I meant in terms of when they're talking about big acts they predict in the upcoming year. Just a few examples, articles like these are pretty comprehensive in their review of the year coming (those two are a glance from some I've seen, there are others - I am aware I've just picked those two from the Guardian :P): Haim get a mention, Odell's nowhere to be found. Was Michael Kiwanuka seriously featured in lists of predicted big acts for 2012 though? He seems if anything an even more unusual winner than Tom (and that's not just because of his underperforming, I'm pretty sure he had literally no hype at all prior to being included in the So12/Critics' Choice shortlists). I don't blame papers for picking the likes of Haim over Tom Odell though, they are a lot better based on what I've heard from Tom Odell so far (which is admittedly just one song).
January 3, 201312 yr The Guardian are known for focusing on more alternative and quirky artists though, instead of the artists that lack originality, which seems to be the case with Tom Odell. As I said, the Sound Of 2012 panel must have known their mistake and improved on their selections this year instead.
January 3, 201312 yr Haim don't strike me as the sort of act to go on to achieve huge commercial success. Maybe I'm wrong but I'd been lumping them in with The Pierces and First Aid Kit - big on the radio, consistent album sellers but not huge and won't have any massive hit singles.
January 4, 201312 yr And the #1 in the BBC Sound Of 2013 is... HAIM :o :w00t: :yahoo:  Ooh, I feel quite embarrassed now. :( Edited January 4, 201312 yr by G_R_I_E_F
