November 8, 201212 yr I actually love that Pitbull song, the chorus is incredibly catchy. Don't care hugely about Charlie Brown and Champange Showers was incredibly weak.
November 8, 201212 yr If Coldplay had to release a 'filler' single, it should have been Hurts Like Heaven, that could've got them at least another top 20. I can understand them holding back the Rihanna single while Paradise died down, but it was the wrong choice of song to do it with. :(
November 8, 201212 yr Oh Charlie Brown should not have flopped! That riff is huge. It's the third wheel in between two slightly better Coldplay songs but it's still lovely. Opening the Brits with it was a moment. Champagne Showers confuses me, not sure why it flopped, was never sure why it attracted such massive hate. It's nothing special but when you've just had a hit with Party Rock Anthem... 'nothing special' is what's on the table. Rain Over Me I guiltily love though, far prefer it to the iniquitous Give Me Everything, mainly because of a decent handling of the chorus. I'm pretty certain there are better to come in this thread, got one in my mind that I'm looking forward to making an appearance particularly.

November 8, 201212 yr I know it's not eligible in this list as it scraped into the Top 20 at No. 17, but Take That's 'I'd Wait For Life' is a pretty big 'why-did-they-release-that' moment. A classic example of how not to follow up six consecutive Number 1 singles! To this day I still don't understand why they decided to pick that when there were so many better choices of single on that album.

November 8, 201212 yr From recent years I expect to see Wretch 32 (), Nero, Diana Vickers, Scouting For Girls all in here. Thing is, none of those songs are actually that bad imo, even SFG's one is one of my favourites of theirs (mainly because it sounds quite different from the rest of their discography). I think the vocal effects in the chorus is why people couldn't like Champagne Showers, as it sounds so screechy. It flopped pretty much everywhere in the world. Then again, some autotune-heavy songs like Tik Tok, E.T., Boom Boom Pow have been massive hits, but I think those are done a lot better, and fit in with the songs. November 8, 201212 yr I would like to do one though I might do one that somebody is planning to do... Oh sorry, I should think about the flops? Well, all of them should've done better really. Edited November 8, 201212 yr by FM11
November 8, 201212 yr Is it just a coincidence that all three of these so far were then followed up with a return to big success (Princess Of China #4, Sexy And I Know It #5, International Love #10) or is that part of the point of the thread that I didn't gather from the first post?

November 9, 201212 yr It's is a coincidence but also due to more commercial featuring acts: Rihanna on POC and, let's be honest, Chris Brown sets charts on fire much better than Mark Anthony. Great thread btw! Thanks again Gezza! Edited November 9, 201212 yr by SKOB
November 9, 201212 yr poor old Coldplay- singles were never really their forte Really? I always considered them a great singles band, over everything else. Their albums are too much Coldplay.

November 9, 201212 yr Author GOOD LIFE- KANYE WEST http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/6f/Good_life_cov_low_res.jpg PEAK POSITION: 23 SALES: 63K FOLLOW UP TO: STRONGER Ok we can’t accuse him of jumping on a dead bandwagon by sampling Michael Jackson (this was 2 years prior to his death) but Kanye’s follow up to “Stronger” failed to make the top 20 perhaps reflecting public perception that he was in fact rather stupid. In between the release of “Stronger” and this track he appeared at the MTV Awards and lost in all 5 categories he was nominated in prompting an outburst from the singer and suggesting that MTV were discriminatory for allowing Spears to open the show and not him as she had not had a hit in some years. November 9, 201212 yr Author FAMOUS- SCOUTING FOR GIRLS http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/3d/SFG_Famous.jpg PEAK POSITION: 37 SALES: 58K FOLLOW UP TO: THIS AIN'T A LOVE SONG Remember back in 2008 when they could do no wrong? Well foolishly they thought in 2012 they could pull the same trick of producing irritating songs that the radio loved and hammered to death, well radio still loved them but it seems that one last track “This Ain’t A Love Song” was enough for us and anyone who wanted to had invested in the album, and thusly interest in this was “lacklustre” to say the least. MORAL OF THE SONG: STOP PRODUCING THE SAME SONG OVER AND OVER AGAIN. ALTHOUGH THAT DOES SEEM TO WORK FOR SOME ACTS- CURIOUS. nUHDzRHfJbg
November 9, 201212 yr Another where the follow-up was a return to commercial form, interesting to note that Good Life did rather well in the US - maybe it was too hip-hop for here, maybe its performance was propped up by T-Pain being a big name across the pond. That might make sense since Homecoming did the business here with Chris Martin doing the chorus. Also interesting that Robyn, who we all remember had a #1 around the same time as Stronger, followed a similar pattern - Handle Me struggled, Be Mine! did rather decently and Who's That Girl (and Flashing Lights) only just scraped the top 40.
November 9, 201212 yr Author BLOW- KE$HA http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/02/Kesha-Blow_Cover.jpg PEAK POSITION: 32 SALES: 57,300 FOLLOW UP TO: WE R WHO WE R The queen of slutty electopop forgot to bring any kind of tune to this one. Still she does snog a man with a unicorn head and a monocle so your average night out for Ke$ha, but we remained rather unconvinced as we couldn’t even be bothered to send it top 30. Still, nice to see a grown up Dawson from “Dawson’s Creek” in the video, I wonder if Dawson ever met Speilberg at the end? MORAL OF THE STORY: THERE’S A FINE LINE BETWEEN SEXY AND OUTRIGHT SLUTTERY! November 9, 201212 yr 'Every Teardrop...' and 'Paradise' were very good to start with, but I got bored of them and I got bored of 'Princess Of China' too. I think I definitely prefer CB over them three, despite liking (to some extent) the other three songs still - UGH they won me over this era! LMFAO - JUST EW. 'Champagne Showers' was crap too. 'Rain Over Me' was decent, but I can definitely see why it was such a huge flop. 'Good Life' is possibly my second favourite Kanye song (not really listened to his albums as I don't think I could tolerate them) behind 'Through the Wire'. Such a shame to see it in this list as it definitely deserved to be a proper smash after the extremely weak and overrated 'Stronger'. 'Famous', bleh. They should have released 'On the Radio' for the follow up to 'This Ain't A Love Song'! Very different for them. EDIT: 'Blow' is one of Ke$ha's best songs. 'We R Who We R' is one of my least favourites. They should be reversed :(
November 9, 201212 yr 'Good Life' (and everything else Kanye has ever done) shits all over 'Stronger'. He seriously needs to get another lead #1, 'Stronger' being the only one is a complete injustice. Sadly, him even going top 10 earlier this year as a lead artist was a huge shock (and he was a joint lead artist on 'Niggas In Paris'), another #1 will probably never happen :( At least he has a couple more great #1s as a featured artist and the potential to still get another chart topper as a feature what with the recent-ish top 3 success of 'E.T.' (could have been a #1 if released before the album). Edited November 9, 201212 yr by Bré
