This year seems to have been another good one for new female artists. But which currently successful female artists do you think will have longevity like Rihanna/Pink and which ones will do a Duffy/Dido? Personally I don't think Rita Ora will last beyond her second era. And I like Lana Del Rey but I've got a feeling people will get bored of her soon. Would be interesting to see what other people think. I might also do a poll of more established artists later.

Adele for both tbh. Emeli Sande could be either be a Duffy type who flops majorly hard next era or an Adele type who's even bigger next era.

I would say Rita Ora could do a Rihanna (bad first album or two, then flourishes) but she doesn't even seem to have potential really. She doesn't seem like she even has anything to her so I think she might disappear/flop by the 2nd or 3rd album.

Adele has an album that has sold over 4 mil, that alone will keep her going for at least five years, even if the next album is a comparative 'underperformance' (as in quite a bit less than expected, its obviously not gonna match 21's sales). As for Emeli, she's been hugely successful this time around, I can't see how she'll best this but she'll definitely be around for a few years to come.

I get the sense Paloma Faith has a bit of life left in her, she certainly held up rather well this era, and there's certainly room for more success. Lana Del Rey's hype seems to be fading a little bit and Rita Ora is so far very, very of the moment. I suppose its a good point that Rihanna was similar to this, but really she just seems to be a prettier Pixie Lott and can see her sell by date coming soon...

I don't see Adele doing very well in 5 years time to be honest. She'll leave it too long for the third album because of her baby and I can see her becoming the next Dido. I hope that I'm wrong obviously. :(

I voted for Rita Ora for both polls - with the right songs, she could get bigger and bigger. We'll see though.

I also voted for Emeli Sande and Paloma Faith in the first poll. Emeli Sande might get one more Top 5 hit with her next album (which won't do as well as Our Version Of Events) and Paloma Faith will get a Top 5 hit eventually with the right song and the right promotion. ^_^

As for Lana Del Rey, I don't see her having much commercial success with her next album, unless she changes her style of music.

I think Emeli will stick around for sure, I think it all obviously depends on material. She releases a 'Well, Well, Well' and she's obviously stuffed, but I think her current material has enough 'reality TV' life to keep her seeming relevant, like with Make You Feel My Love.

Can't see Rita lasting too long, feel like people like her songs, but don't really care about her so much as an actual artist. Think she'll struggle past this album, but she could quite easily surprise.

I think Emeli Sande and Adele will still be having top 10 hits, reaching #1 in the singles chart most likely struggle, but their albums should perform very well.

Rita Ora, Paloma Faith, Lana Del Rey will probably fade away.

I'd rather see Lana Del Rey flop than completely change her music genre like some of you have said she should do!

Adele will have good initial success with her next album but it'll be back to '19' levels of success I think. Emeli will probably have similar but only as long as she provides a form of 'Adele substitute'. Paloma did surprise me by being fairly successful this time so she'll probably be AROUND at least.

Rita I can't see lasting much longer, she has no potential to last beyond this first album at all. Regardless what my personal opinion is of her peddling sub-par Rihanna club tracks (just stop please), she's peaked far too early and is faceless. Unless she gets her second album out in a year's time and continues to keep her name out there, like many an X-Factor act do, she's screwed.

Lana'll probably be more persistent than some of you think. She has versatility, granted, she may not be showing it with her singles yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if she maintains consistent success with her next few albums. My main reason is that unlike Rita, she's distinctive and people do know her name, which will help in a second album at least. Although, if Ride flops completely I may rethink that.

Depends how far she changes to be honest. The 'Paradise' EP is a bit of a sonic evolution from Born To Die so if she keeps gradually changing I'd be happy. But I certainly wouldn't be here for her doing generic bangers or whatever  In any case I do think she's going to become a niche act soon enough but I don't mind. As long as she can keep getting music out I doubt she minds either.

I've heard reviews on Rita Ora's debut album, and whilst people have enjoyed the album, they've said how she hasn't quite found who she is yet as an artist, doesn't know what genre of music is her and is going to associated with her. Perhaps if she nails that with her next album, she'll continue having some success.

I didn't mean release the next Starships (even if that's what it came out as) I LOVE her style, tone and voice, i just meant what Umi was saying with the subtle changes in the Paradise EP. People will remain interested if she can manage to be versatile, but still hold true to what makes her so damn brilliant

Yeah, see I'm worried that Adele could become the next Dido. After both of Dido's first two albums being so huge, I remember being really shocked at how her third album completely flopped. Even though Adele is massive now (no pun intended!) and it's hard to imagine her flopping with her next album... I guess it could happen.

As for Rita Ora, I really don't think she'll last beyond her next era and I'm surprised at how many people agree with me already.

I'd like to think Emeli and Paloma have some longevity in them.

Lana Del Rey I think could go either way with her next album.

I like all of them, but I can't see any of them still getting top 10 hits in 10 years time. But you never know. However, if you think back to who was popular 10 years ago, and whether they go top 10 hits recently, there's not many of them (Usher, Pink, Kelly Clarkson, Sean Paul, Robbie Williams, probably some I forgot. It's possible that Alicia Keys, Britney Spears, Eminem, Ludacris could be getting top 10 hits soon).

The question was actually who'll still be having Top 10 hits in FIVE years time, not 10 years time! I did actually consider putting 10 years but I thought 5 was more realistic for now. I'd like to think Emeli could still be successful in 10 years though, and maybe Adele (which could be a bit confusing as Emeli's real name is actually Adele ).

Sorry. :( I think I read too quickly. I saw the number "10" and the word "years".

I could see all of them (except Rita) selling albums in 5 years at least. Not sure about singles though. I think Emeli has the best chance, since she does so many collaborations.

Paloma has a total of one top 10 hit now - I don't think she'll go away any time soon but I think she'll gradually shift more towards being an album seller who couldn't sell a single to save her life. A bit like Caro Emerald maybe.

Rita, as per the general sentiment, will probably not last much beyond a second album. Lana is in a similar situation to Paloma above. Adele could do a Dido but I doubt it, I could see her sustaining a high level of success for a pretty long time. Emeli seems like a more likely candidate to do a Dido or worse a Duffy.

I voted for Adele and Emeli in the first poll anyhow (and Adele in the second).

If you can ever call #2 'a complete flop', that is...
