Posted November 27, 201212 yr Monday 31 December, 8am BBC Radio 1 celebrates the Top 150 selling singles of 2012 with a special relay of shows that will span the final day of 2012 - providing the perfect New Year’s Eve soundtrack to get Radio 1 listeners in the party spirit. Radio 1 DJs Tom Deacon, Gemma Cairney, Scott Mills and Dev will all be involved in the special day of programming - counting down the Top 150 selling singles of 2012 as compiled by the Official Charts Company. Throughout the day the DJs will gradually reveal the runners and riders in the race to be crowned the UK’s number-one best-selling single of 2012 - including the chart positions of hit 2012 artists One Direction, Carly Rae Jepsen and Adele. Tom Deacon is set to kick off the proceedings with a countdown of the top 150-121 selling singles of 2012 between 8 and 10am. Gemma Cairney takes over the musical reins between 10am and 1pm to countdown from 120; between 1 and 4pm, Scott Mills will countdown from number 80; while early morning breakfast show host Dev rounds off the show with the final countdown of the top 40 selling singles of 2012. November 27, 201212 yr Oh what a shame - no Reggie! Great that they are doing a Top 150 - don't they usually just post a Top 40? I'll probably tune in, or at least listen to Dev countdown the Top 40. EDIT: The downside to doing this on New Year Eve is that it misses one/two weeks of sales that would count to the official year end chart. Edited November 27, 201212 yr by liamk97
November 27, 201212 yr Yay! Dev will be hosting one of the shows! He's my favourite Radio 1 DJ. :D I will probably be listening to this... on a train. :kink:
November 27, 201212 yr I'll probably be listening all day while trying to power through PILES of essays :(
November 27, 201212 yr Wow this is awesome!! :D I was thinking the other day it would be good if the did the whole top 200 countdown on Radio 1 (I know this isn't the whole top 200, but 150 is still great). I guess to make the top 150 you'd probably need to sell about 150,000.
November 27, 201212 yr Excellent so much better than a top 40. Maybe we could have a thread topic for the day, with a few Buzzjack hosts :D

November 27, 201212 yr An all day chart countdown of the top 150 singles Monday on Radio 1 and then the countdown of the public's favourite number 2s on Radio 2 the next day - its a chart geek's Heaven I tells you *.* (with New Year's festivities in between of course :D ) Great that they're expanding this to a top 150 if only just for a year. A top 40 was always far too narrow and I find it still missed out on some of the notable hits of the year (Plus it was basically always filled with irrelevant chit chat anyway)

It would be great if one year a song which didn’t reach the official Top 40 in that year could break into the Year End Top 100. It would be even better if said song was a new release for that year!

I wonder if Chasing Cars has been in every year-end top 200 since its release! :o It would have to be something quite extraordinary for a song that doesn't chart top 40 to make the year-end Hot 100. In the US it almost happened last year, a song called Sure Thing by Miguel only peaked at #36 in the weekly charts but got #92 in the year-end charts. It's a beautiful song, and he has another brilliant song doing big things now called Adorn. 94-87-76-71-63-58-57-56-42-43-36-44-39-41-44-43-49-40-40-43-45-45-49 Edited November 27, 201212 yr by Eric_Blob
November 28, 201212 yr Oh what a shame - no Reggie! Great that they are doing a Top 150 - don't they usually just post a Top 40? I'll probably tune in, or at least listen to Dev countdown the Top 40. EDIT: The downside to doing this on New Year Eve is that it misses one/two weeks of sales that would count to the official year end chart. It should (and probably will) include sales to 29 December which is the last day of the chart sales year 2012 so there shouldn't be any sales missing.

Its sales have been: 2006: 210,606 (year end number 14) 2007: 163,000 (#34) 2008: 109,000 (#95) 2009: 117,600 (#153) 2010: 101,400 (#183) 2011: 128,200 (#157) Quite amazing!
November 28, 201212 yr So if ~150k is required to be in the top 150, Adele's going to have 4 songs in there, and she's only released 1 of them in the last year and a half!

That is amazing! I guess since it's top 200 every week it logically makes sense that it'd be in the year-end top 200 aswell. I think it could finally drop out this year though, unless it's been discounted at some point (I can't remember).
November 28, 201212 yr I found the list from vidcapper last year: Pos - YTD - Artist - Song - Total - New - Hst 1 - 1,242,200 - Adele - Someone Like You 5 - 902,500 - Rihanna ft Calvin Harris - We Found Love 10 - 784,100 - Jennifer Lopez - On The Floor - 784,100 20 - 540,300 - One Direction - What Makes You Beautiful 40 - 405,900 - Ed Sheeran - Lego House 75 - 278,300 - Chase & Status - Blind Faith Meanwhile in 2006: 1 1 Gnarls Barkley Crazy 815555 5 5 Infernal From Paris to berlin 306728 10 10 Lily Allen Smile 225024 20 18 The Automatic Monster 178208 40 39 Madonna Sorry 135906 75 75 P Diddy ft Nicole Scherzinger Come to me 90183 http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=25659 Total sales have roughly tripled for most positions in the top 75, whilst weekly sales were as low as 265,042 back in early 2005, when downloads didn't count towards the chart. I think seasonal fluctuations were greater back then, but even so, that's 10-12 times lower than typical sales this year.

I think it could finally drop out this year though, unless it's been discounted at some point (I can't remember). I don't think it's gonna make it this year either. I currently have it ~190's YTD, and it's looking like dropping from the weekly T200 for the first time (*), too. (*) Excluding special circumstances.
November 28, 201212 yr It should (and probably will) include sales to 29 December which is the last day of the chart sales year 2012 so there shouldn't be any sales missing. FYI, that'll be the chart dated 5/1/13, of course. It'll also have an unusual mix of declining Xmas songs, and gift-voucher-boosted big hits of 2012. :P
November 28, 201212 yr Radio 1 doing the whole top 150 *.* :yahoo: So excited. I would personally love to see Avicii's Silhouettes in the chart even though it missed the weekly top 20. I think it can do it.
