*the song was performing a natural climb rather than being boosted by the new year

I think this year we could see major boosts for Gangnam Style, Beneath Your Beautiful, Skyfall, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together. Hopefully Gotye, Carly Rae and Titanium re-enter the top 40 too

I hope some minor hits can re-enter again, like last year with When I Was a Youngster and Mr Know It All. Or even something like Read All About It - a massive number one that didn't spend long in the Top 40.

EDIT: Oh yeah, that reminds me - Emeli Sande will probably see Read All About It (Part III) and Next to Me re-enter, and Our Version of Events will probably return to number one in the albums.

Could see several of the songs currently in the top 10 benefiting greatly from the New Year boost ('Beneath Your Beautiful', 'Troublemaker', 'Diamonds', 'Candy' and especially 'Gangnam Style' which seems MADE for the New Year boost :P) as well as the usual big hits of the year, Gotye, Guetta, Carly, fun. etc. Hopefully not Jessie J but probably.

I would love to see 'Niggas In Paris' returning to the top 40, it's already had a rather spectacular run (the 2nd most weeks in the top 100 of a song that entered the chart this year behind Gotye, or third behind Gotye and Guetta if you ignore the first chart run of 'Titanium') so a New Year boost to finish it off would be great. Probably won't happen unless it's 59p again at the time though.

It's got a good chance I reckon, how many other singles from that early in the year are still club mainstays?

I can probably think of at least 20. There's songs from 10 years ago which are still club staples. But I would say Niggas In Paris has been the biggest club hit of the year, since I hear it multiple times every time I go out, and through the entire year.

I think it'll be similar to last year, with One Direction, The Wanted, Rizzle Kicks, Ed Sheeran, Olly Murs, etc. (i.e. stuff that teenage girls (the main recipients of gift cards) like).

Yeah, because their parents don't want to be seen buying One Direction songs themselves! :P

That's the advantage of downloads - you no longer have to face a store clerk when buying an embarrassing record...

Hopefully '212' will get a big boost back into the top 40, still play that on the jukebox in my local every Saturday

Indeed.

How do you think I managed to complete my Gary Glitter collection?
