People are being really bitching to Alex Day on here. I don't really like his music but he's only stating his opinion and now people are mocking him. -_-

He's got a valid point anyway about releasing single tracks instead of albums. Sure, you could argue his mentality is killing the album market, but whose to say he - an unsigned act with little funding presumably - would make a profit from putting an album out. Obviously, creatively, it's better but I'd rather an artist put out ten stand-alone songs that they are proud of rather than doing a Pixie Lott or JLS and releasing shit albums with only the singles being decent (in Pixie's case even those are shit).

I've actually willed him to do well in the past, but his comments earlier were a little random, and just asserted the fact that he thinks his young fans should just blindly buy whatever he releases multiple times, and if they don't it's in some way reflective of how attentive they are as people. I'm all for him to be successful as an artist, but if he wants to be taken more seriously he should get his name out there beyond the two weeks before Christmas.

Ultimately, what Alex said is actually very true of young people today (and people in general really), but completely untrue of young people posting on a music forum. In some ways we're the least qualified to talk about charts and the general public's buying patterns, because the chances are we're all passionate music fans and are so far removed from the norm.

 17 - The Gypsy Queens/Made In Chelsea Boys - L'Americano [Nice to have a surprise Christmas hit!]

 24 - Willy Moon - Yeah Yeah

 35 - My Chemical Romance - The World Is Ugly

Agreed. In the case of JLS and Pixie - they're nothing but puppets for the record company. "Kiss the Stars" should have been docked 100 places in the charts for a lack of effort and trying.

TBF it should have been #1 just for the video alone!

:kink:

Stupid Stupid  #58 - will probably just scrape the top 40 if he was #10 in the midweeks today

225. Animal - Conor Maynard - please SMASH!

Most young people are passionate about music tbh. Just most of them have absolutely NOTHING to do with iTunes. Most young people don't legally download. The average number of songs on a person's mp3 player is probably something like 7,000, but downloads are too expensive for people to pay for that legally (yes, I know they're extremely cheap compared to 50 years ago).

The people that use iTunes are mainly casual music listeners, those people that just buy a song every now and then, something that they saw on TV during the weekend that they liked, or a catchy song they heard on the radio on the way to work. Those that probably aren't tech-savvy enough to know how to illegally download.

I may be the one who posts on a music forum, but I seem to be basically the last person at my university to find out about Disclosure. Some people on here have said they've not heard songs like Ai Se Eu Te Pego, Rack City, Midnight City, etc. which have been massive hits in the past 12 months (culturally, not in the charts obviously), so we may not be as knowledgeable really. I think people here will mainly be people who are fans of artists who are big in the charts (Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, etc.). Even people like Keri Hilson and Ciara are laughed at as "flops" on this forum, even though they're more successful than like 95% of the artists I listen to...

excuse me KISS THE STARS video was nothing less than EPIC.

I didn't say Alex not releasing an album was killing the album market. I said the "all albums have two good tracks and ten shit ones" mentality that's so prominent is killing it. I'm not trying to guilt trip him or whatever, but it seems awfully close-minded to me to say that releasing albums is silly because they're all shit anyway.

I don't think a shameless third-rate carbon copy of the 'E.T.' video can be called epic.

I didn't claim you did say that. I said his mentality, just like you. I do agree with what you are saying but I don't think Alex was even claiming that.

I don't see how this:

I don't know why everyone else bothers with albums ... Most artists release one or two tracks with ten duds and charge you ten quid for it: I just don't release the duds.

... isn't saying that.

Some major under performing singles this week which are all follow up's to Top 20 hits, None of the below artists seem to have promoted that they are even out to buy either

Alex Clare – Hummingbird [Previous single - 'Too Close' #4]

JLS – Hold Me Down/Give Me Life [Previous single - 'Hottest Girl In The World' #6]

The Killers – Here With Me [Previous single - 'Runaways' #18]

Paloma Faith – Just Be [Previous single - 'Never Tear Us Apart' #16]

Rebecca Ferguson – Shoulder To Shoulder [Previous single - 'Backtrack' #15]

Robbie Williams – Different [Previous single - 'Candy' #1]

Also Willy Moon  22 - Another surprise hit? And £1 Fish Man getting ever closer to breaking the Top 40 - 41 :cheer:

To be fair to Paloma, it was the exact same situation with '30 Minute Love Affair' until the album advert boosted it. Her music this era isn't exactly suited to the singles market and 'Just Be' has been around for ages anyway.

Have you really not seen the hypocrisy and the bitterness in his comment?

It sort of reminds me of the TOWIE version of Last Christmas, more because of the idea than the music though (memorable hit (We No Speak Americano) remade by reality TV stars). Where did that peak on iTunes btw? I know it only scraped the top 40 in the end.

Oh don't get me wrong i was not expecting it to be a smash and it seems to have done it's job of reviving interest in the album however im just surprised that its doing literally nothing despite an EP and 3 new mixes. Clearly Paloma and co should have held off until a January release and just serviced the tracks to radio now.

I'm pretty sure Treading Water was Alex Clare's previous single, it went Top 200 on iTunes at some point (which probably wasn't bad for a song with no hype or airplay)

About The Killers btw, what happened to 'Miss Atomic Bomb'- did that release get cancelled or something?

Tragically the TOWIE version of LC only peaked at around #24/25 on iTunes i think :drama:
