^^ Girls Aloud again? Lol. I can only wish that they'd done the same number of appearances and performances as Emeli has this year.

Oh, that's interesting. I suppose 'Something New' fits more with the New Years Eve party theme, than a ballad would.

CIN (x2), Strictly, Royal variety, Graham norton, Jingle bell ball, Live lounge, Documentary, TOTP day and new year. All in less than 2 months.

Thanks for that :D

It'd be interesting to know which "possible outcomes" of the Christmas #1 have been recorded - Fearne said on her radio show today that she filmed loads of them!

Loads  Who were they expecting it to be then? I'm guessing just to be on the safe side they might have got performances from the likes of Olly Murs, Bruno Mars, One Direction etc,

It's usually on the Wednesday before Christmas, which is today. It's on this Saturday instead though, which is going to be good because The Nation's Favourite Christmas Song on ITV1 is on straight before the show starts, so that should be fun! :D

There's also another show that is on BBC Two tonight - The Christmas #1 Story. It starts at 21:00 and ends at 22:00. It should be fun to watch as well! ^_^

Ugh im at an xmas dinner on saturday so ill miss them - are they repeated? Itake the ITV fav xmas song wont be just a rundown of xmas videos - itll be more of a documentary?

That's very little compared to Emeli's fantastic promotion (including The X Factor Final & Sports Personality of the Year, this month). I can understand why people think she's overexposed and have consequently become sick of her. I hardly think anyone could say that they've had Girls Aloud shoved down their throats, in the same breath as Emeli.

Girls Aloud's promo slots so far break down as:

CIN & Strictly - Something New (One performance pre-release, one performance on the day of release - lazy)

CIN - Beautiful 'Cause You Love Me (+ a minimal amount within a Live Lounge cover of Beneath Your Beautiful)

Graham Norton & Live Lounge - Love Machine (Perhaps their best slot, a prime-time chat show, was dedicated to an eight year old single)

Royal Variety - The Promise

(A barely promoted) Documentary - Ten

It's not exactly an extreme amount of promotion. The bare minimum that they could get away with, in my opinion.

Jingle Bell Ball was specifically for people who attended the arena show, and would have achieved very low audience figures on the music channel it was aired on. Otherwise, people have to specifically search for the performances on YouTube. Jingle Bell Ball hardly had an effect for any artist who took part, because relatively speaking not many UK people will see these performances.

The Nation's Favourite Christmas Song (which is more of a documentary) is repeated on Christmas Day at 11:10am and the Christmas edition of TOTP2 is repeated at 12:00am on the start of Boxing Day! :D

-x-

And according to Reggie Yates, they filmed over 30 outcomes of the Christmas #1! :o

Happy Days il be watching. Dissappointing TOTPs 2 isnt on until Boxing Day again - seems strange watching/listening to xmas songs by then even though its actually xmas - hate the way radio stops playing xmas songs from midday on xmas day basically!!

Ok well you tell me what promo they could have done to be more effective? Don't say X factor because after Cheryl being dropped by X factor and her now trying to sue them that was never going to happen.

Florence and the Machine should do Never Let Me Go. The most undeserving flop of all time.

Christmas TOTP 2 is on BBC2 tomorrow 9pm and repeated again on midnight on Christmas Day after Christmas no.1 story

That's what I just said? :P

Did I hear somewhere that this years xmas specials have more or less been confirmed as the last ever new editions of TOTP due to the BBC basically seeing TOTP as a tainted brand now due to the obvious? Do we know if the BBC4 reruns will continue into 1978 next year?

I never heard them say that. The 1978 shows are continuing yes, there is a documentary about the year and TOTP 1978 Big Hits (compilation show) on - I think - New Year's Day. As for "tainted", I'd say Jimmy Saville is more remembered for other programmes like Jim'll Fix it (if that's what you're referring to).

Girls Aloud's promotion for Ten was quick, but fine.

Remember, Strictly and CIN both trounced X Factor ratings-wise.

The "8 Year Old Song" was to promote the Greatest Hits.

And although the documentary wasn't advertised at all, it's had an effect, obviously the album is up 10 places in the midweeks.

The press have been saying stuff like that but it makes zero sense - why would they have commissioned two new episodes of TOTP and confirmed the continuation of repeats into 1978?

If anything, if the NYE show (which is on at the spiritual home of 7pm!) does well, who knows, they might even bring it back full time.

I would love TOTP to return, it would revamp the charts!!

I went to one of the recordings for this and they've also got The Script, Calvin Harris + Tinie Tempah, Stooshe and Rizzle Kicks. I think they're all on the New Years show.

QUALITY, WOULD HAVE LOVED TO HAVE BEEN THERE!!
