Posted December 25, 201212 yr I can't understand it, can anyone explain why the Christmas songs begin to fall like a brick on itunes on the day itself? They should all be at their peak right now. Edited December 25, 201212 yr by zenon
December 25, 201212 yr From midday today you probably wont hear one on the radio until 1st dec 2013 either - i think they should be played until 27th at least - but it follows the commercial marketing of xmas now - its all about the winter sales now!! Its also obv because people download before the big day and listen to them now! Edited December 25, 201212 yr by steve201
December 25, 201212 yr Well it would be a bit stupid to download the Christmas songs on Christmas Day if you will only be able to listen to them for a day! :P
December 25, 201212 yr But christmas starts on xmas day and end on the 6th jan? Arguably. I see Boxing Day as the day after Christmas.
December 25, 201212 yr The point im making is that everything is now based on commercial money making - its like xmas is over from boxing day and summer clothes start being put into shops as soon as possible!!
December 25, 201212 yr To me Christmas is the month of December. The commercialised approach has killed it imo.

December 25, 201212 yr I can't understand it, can anyone explain why the Christmas songs begin to fall like a brick on itunes on the day itself? They should all be at their peak right now. Partly it's due to people using their Xmas iTunes vouchers - on everything else *but* Xmas songs, that drives them down faster.
December 25, 201212 yr Buying Xmas tracks on Xmas day is a bit of a silly idea I think, you could buy something else which will last a longer time on you or more worth your 59-99p. I mean if you bought Xmas tracks today, they will likely last from a day to probably a week then you'll get bored or something unlike buying them early and playing them on the build-up. I guess it's fine if you like to wait for 11 months. Edited December 25, 201212 yr by FM11
December 25, 201212 yr I suppose that people won't buy them today as they won't feel like playing them much after today. Not sure why people still buy them on xmas eve though!
December 25, 201212 yr I think the most popular time to buy Christmas songs is in Mid December when the Christmas 'spirit' is in full swing, when everyone's just starting to buy gifts, breaking up for the holidays etc. I guess the last swing for the songs is when things reach midpoint and the last few days when the songs are getting hammered on the radio would obviously spark a small sales boost, but its usually still only around ten or so places (unless its Driving Home For Christmas, which I suppose climbs due to how appropriate the lyrics are for the occasion :P ) I guess there would just be little point as after the 25th, things would just start to die down. It is, of course, the commercialisation. For me, the Christmas period for me is from Mid December right up until the beginning of January. But I guess with music it would just seem odd playing a song about Christmas Eve/Day festivities after the day's gone, especially as most people would be in the mood for the new year, so would be buying some discounted songs/favourites of the year etc. That post was quite a bit longer than I first planned Edited December 25, 201212 yr by Christmas Wombat
December 25, 201212 yr Arguably. I see Boxing Day as the day after Christmas. Not arguably at all. There are 12 days of Christmas, starting with the birth of Jesus on the 25th and ending on the 6th January when we celebrate the arrival of the three Kings. Its called Yuletide or Christmastide

There are 12 days of Christmas, starting with the birth of Jesus on the 25th and ending on the 6th January when we celebrate the arrival of the three Kings. Its called Yuletide or Christmastide The issue is that christmas is not really about religion now so most people consider christmas over after Boxing Day at the latest (I know I do!).

December 25, 201212 yr Its a Holy Day of Obligation so Christians really should Don't Holy Days of Obligation only relate to Roman Catholics?
December 25, 201212 yr The Christmas celebrations seem to be much more during Advent these days, with far less after the first day of the 12 days of Christmas.
