February 8, 201313 yr I'm assuming it must be a tour boost, either that or people deciding to pick up the album now that 4 songs from the album have been released/being released as singles. Going to see him live on Saturday. Looking forward to it, even though I'm still a little disappointed that he dropped out of an interview he was going to do with Queens Radio. Me too!! Cant wait, Mandela Hall happy days only 9 quid a ticket!! :D
February 8, 201313 yr Isn't it strange how the album chart is now more interesting and fast moving than the beloved singles chart. Virtually all the posts on this thread referring to album chart action. Maybe because the singles chart is a shadow of its former self. One new entry this week. Great variety there! Remember singles used to be promotion tools to sell albums. With so few new songs entering the charts no wonder the album sales are plummeting too. I do think they need to change the rules, at least ensure new material has a chance of charting. Maybe 59p songs should be excluded. My interest is certainly lessening chartwise. Lets hope Jessie Ware can make top 40 this week and double the amount of new entries to that list! I can understand what you mean with regards to the 59p songs - they do have a massive advantage every week being advertised on the front of itunes and they are usually the same ones all the time which clog up the positions between 30-40 stopping jessie ware and stereophonics and the like from at least getting a top 40 place. But i disagree with the point about the chart rules - the problem is radios lack of support for new music and fresh new artists. there was a MW article last week showing how the biggest sellers from last year didnt get anywhere near the airplay that their sales suggested they would!
February 8, 201313 yr Does anyone know when was the last trans-Atlantic chart-topping single double was done. "We Found Love", in November 2011! I thought it'd be sooner, with "Somebody That I Used To Know"/"Call Me Maybe"/"We Are Young" all having massive runs atop the Hot 100, but they all peaked at different times in both territories
February 8, 201313 yr No surprise to see Les Miserables returning to number one, hopefully its sales are still over 30k. Kimberley at number 16 is good - should still be Top 20 for Sunday then. My copy of her album arrived today too! :cheer:
February 8, 201313 yr Author "We Found Love", in November 2011! I'm surprised there wasn't anything for 2012, had to wait 15-16 months for 1
February 8, 201313 yr The US chart toppers were strange in that songs just seemed to take longer in 2012 to really take off. I guess including streaming sales last year had a knock on effect - so many weeks where it was the same ten songs inside the top 10 with little movement. A bit like the UK charts in early 2008.

Yeah, streaming means songs take longer to climb up the chart, and then hang around for longer after they peaked. Somebody That I Used to Know and Call Me Maybe are still in the top 50 there. I can see there being a song that spends 30 weeks in the top 10 one day (maybe even Thrift Shop might do it). Even Party Rock Anthem got close and that was before streaming was added.
February 8, 201313 yr We have this same discussion about rules of how long a song stays in the chart every once in a while and we always come to the conclusion that the chart should stay the way that it is because the chart should reflect what the people are buying.

I agree, there shouldn't be any change made to the way our chart works (heaven forbid we end up with anything like the Billboard Hot 100 chart!). The problem is the complete lack of variety on some commercial radio playlists (Radio 1 is fine, the likes of Capital and Heart etc are the ones i'm talking about)
February 8, 201313 yr Richard Clyderman, i hope the album can hold up, an likewise with Kimberley Walsh.
February 9, 201313 yr Looks like Kimberley Walsh should manage to remain top 20 this week, which is quite impressive I guess. I don't think it will actually sell well in the long run. Would be surprised to see if it sold over 30,000. 30. The Fray - How To Save A Life 40. Nickleback - How You Remind Me :cheer: Hopefully Nickleback remain top 40 and Maroon 5 & Eminem/Rihanna also join the top 40!
