Streaming is not similar to radio or TV airplay because streaming reflects what the public are listening to. If anything, streaming is fairer than selling!

Airplay is when you count it by audience.

Yes, but the airplay in the first place comes from the TV or radio, where people don't play the songs out of personal choice. :P

It is still similar though, with both you listen through choice, even if you don't choose the songs yourself.

Not feeling like turning a song off is not the same as wanting to listen to it.

You could argue that about having a playlist on a music website too though.

If they're added, then it's unfair to those who buy music. Every week, someone who streams a track will contribute towards it's chart position but you only buy a single once.

Presumably you would put together such a playlist yourself so not really. You wouldn't put a song on a playlist that you don't actively want to listen to?

Exactly what I was going to say.

It isn't true to say that the streaming chart shows what the public is listening to. It gives a good idea but, because it doesn't include people listening to music they have bought, it is not necessarily a true measure of what people are listening to.

Single Sales are at an all time high in the UK, we don't need streaming to make it relevant, besides if someone doesn't like the song enough to buy it then it shouldn't count anyway, what next adding home made YouTube videos to the chart like in the US and ending up getting Harlem Shake and Gangnam Style as number 1 of the year???
But Gangnam Style IS what 2012 will be remembered for.

Anyway, there's a difference between paid subscription services and Youtube.

We don't want that happening again....

In the US YouTube views count in the streaming and overall charts...
