That's not the same, because the Brits performance actually is DIFFERENT to the standard version of 'Mirrors' -- so it's feasible that people who already had the standard version would also want the live version as well. But there's no logical reason whatsoever why having two identical versions of a song (a "single" version and an "album" version that are exactly the same) would produce higher sales than just one version - why would someone want to buy a second version that's exactly the same as the one they already have? I know songs often climb on the week of an album release, but I think that's usually because the artist is promoting and thus getting the song extra exposure (and I don't think JT is promoting here next week is he?), rather than it being down to "multiple versions".

(With that said, if a radio edit of 'Mirrors' is released, then that possibly WOULD mean higher sales, because it's possible that there'd be people who haven't bought the extra-long version and only want a shorter version -- but if the album version of the song is exactly the same as the one that's already on iTunes then there won't be any boost.)

I would have got the radio edit - just waiting until the album is released for mirrors.

Ok, I'm going to have to semi-backtrack, lol -- apparently the official video is being released at the weekend, so THAT will probably give it a boost and make a 4th week at #1 likely.

Multiple versions are irrelevant - by a week Sunday, Timborelake won't be selling over 50k.

Everything and everyone is boring to you isn't it?

Nelly - Hey Porsche  16

Taylor Swift - 22  39

Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pools (Drank) 69

So happy Mirrors is set for a third week at #1, we haven't had a 3 week #1 this year have we? Been a while! If it was any artist I'd want it to be JT as well with this comeback! Album is going to be hugeeeeee. Can't wait to download it on Monday!

James Arthur's latter 2 weeks were this year if that counts :P But the last song to spent 3 consecutive weeks at #1 was 'Spectrum' (seems to happen to the more unexpected #1s now).

Justin might get a bit of a boost from the extra version but let's not forget that the currently charting version is already the one from (the deluxe version of) his album. The only extra version he'll be adding is from the standard edition and generally cherrypicks from standard editions of albums barely make any impact unless the standard edition is just as popular as the deluxe like with Bastille last week (hence the 2 extra versions of 'Pompeii' in the top 40).

As Danny said though the video premiere should give him a boost anyway. But I don't think it'll be enough for him to get a 4th week at #1, I think The Saturdays may well do it now.

Nick Grimshaw's records of the week seem to be having a pretty big impact on the chart (IIRC this was also how 'Au Seve' charted and it started off the pre-order success for 'Need U (100%)'), good to see! I loved the music he played on his 10-12 show before he got the promotion and it seems some of that is getting an outlet into the mainstream through Grimmy's one weekly chance to play something that's not on the playlist :P

Yeah he def does try and play more indie/underground music on the breakfast show - especially his record of the weeks. I suppose thats them trying to aim at the younger audience. It must have been in his contract that he wanted to play at least one of his records in the daytime!

Boomerang  #6

There's no chance of this getting the official number 1 now.

Now? Try 2 days ago... :)

Well done captain obvious :) The rest of Buzzjack knew this as soon as it started falling on iTunes.

Haha, well he's always 3-4 days late and asks questions that are obvious

BTW why is Calvin/Ellie - I Need Your Love suddenly top 200? Not that I'm complaining, I love it

I already knew that Boomerang wasn't going to be #1, I just meant that if it did have any chance of getting to #1 before then it would have certainly gone by now after dropping to #6. And about being "3-4 days late" i dont spend all of my time on the computer like a lot of people do.

Calm down jesus, just a bit of fun, didn't think you're always at the computer.

That Yasmin track with Gorgon City is not that good.

Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive" back up as high as #35 - any explanation? It's done incredible since the Hear Me EP was released and helped it chart; I mean I didn't download it until 3/4 weeks into it's release.

Also, Drake's pitiful comeback "Started From the Bottom" looking to climb AGAIN? He's offering it for FREE on his website, crazy to see it doing so well.

But I don't get why the extra tracks are "irrelevant" though? They're surely not irrelevant if they are actually giving extra sales to a certain track or whatever? Whether the second version gets top 40 or top 400, it's still making it harder for the nearest competition to make the ground up that they'd need to get that one place higher or whatever. (Does that make sense? I'm rubbish with wording things usually ) So they're not really irrelevant if the track actually benefits. It's up to the public if they want to download from the standard or the deluxe edition of the album or whatever.

Ooh. Exciting! Can't wait for the video and I think he's going to get the number 1 album with ease next week, especially now that his video is released at the weekend.

It's being used in a trailer (might actually be several) for 'The Host' (??) which is released soon, so I think that could be getting some interest back in the track.
