April 12, 201411 yr She's praised Lady Gaga for staying true to herself and creating music she wants to make: In an interview with Rolling Stone, Allen said that Gaga should be "commended" for staying true to herself. "If she's not succeeding commercially because she's standing by what she does as art, then that's a f**king great thing," she explained. "That's to be commended. That's what makes a martyr. There's nothing wrong with that." And then goes on to speak about the single choices from Sheezus: "I would love 'Hard Out Here' to have been a single, but you can't have a song that has the word 'bitch' in it 72 times on the radio," she explained. "I would have liked to see 'Sheezus' as a single, but it's not up-tempo enough. "It's also got the word 'period' in it," added the 28-year-old, "which is really offensive to people, even though half the world has to deal with it once a month. "I'm proud of that [though]. It's f**king awesome. I think that 'period' is going to be my 'surfboard' with Beyoncé. People will wear sweatshirts to my concerts that are just going to say 'period'." And then she's gone on to say this: The 'Our Time' singer admitted that the way the release of her upcoming third studio album Sheezus has been handled has made her want to go it alone. Speaking to Rolling Stone, Allen revealed that she began to get frustrated when her label insisted she release the new tracks under her maiden name. "I wanted to come back as Lily Cooper, but the label just weren't having it," she explained. "They were like, 'No, you're Lily Allen'. "They freaked me out and convinced me that it could be a massive contributing factor to my failure, so I was like, 'Okay'." When asked about her future in music, the mother of two - who previously called her record label's single choices "rubbish" - confessed that she wishes she had "more control" over the release process. "I just want to get [my next album] done as quickly as possible so I can get out of my deal," said Allen. "Not because I want off my label. I just want to have more control. I want to put things out in the way that I want. I feel like I know my fanbase better than they know my fanbase. I communicate with them every day. I set it up on MySpace. I saw how it evolved and how it worked. I wish they would let me do it in my way." "What I'd like to do is team up with a hedge funder," the 'Air Balloon' singer continued. "They could help me pay to get the record done, and I could just give it away and then go on tour. "People used to go to a Rolling Stones concert and if you were really f**king lucky, they'd play a song that no-one had heard before. "You don't have that anymore. Everything is so meticulously thought-out and market-researched. It's why everything is so f**king boring." So basically she's criticizing the industry for not allowing her to do what she wants/make the music she wants to as it all revolves around marketing and sales which I agree with to be fair but it's not something that can really be changed if you are wanting to be in the charts. If you're not bothered about success, then yes, there's no need for marketing etc.
April 12, 201411 yr Her attitude stinks. If you don't like your music, don't try and sell it to the public and then moan about it after it has already flopped. All hype surrounding this album has disappeared. I predict it will sell around 100k in total, if lucky.
April 12, 201411 yr When did she say she doesn't like her music?! That's what people seem to be taking from her these days but she hasn't explicitly said that. She's said she thinks the singles aren't the strongest songs on the album, which is fair enough - the best tracks aren't always the most commercial. The second quote in Rabbit Heart's post sums it up.
April 12, 201411 yr In fairness I can definitely see this album struggling massively. 'Somewhere Only We Know' already feels like ancient history.
April 12, 201411 yr yes james i think we can safely say this is going to underperform. it all comes down to whether the album has stronger tracks. if so blame it on the label for mismanagement like lily has said. if these are the best of a bad bunch then she's lost it clearly and is just throwing blame around.
April 12, 201411 yr I don't even want to think about how this album may perform  I predict it'll do something in between Heartbreak On Hold and Young Foolish Happy maybe? I'd like to be proven wrong, but I'm huge a Lily fan and given the tracks so far can't muster up much excitement over the project...
April 12, 201411 yr Author As regards its chart position I think it'll easily get to #1 as there isn't much competition that week or the week before. Sales are tricky, I think it can do over 100k copies, possibly 300k with a Christmas re-release.
April 12, 201411 yr 'Sheezus' won't fail half as badly as 'Heartbreak On Hold' did. I doubt it'll sell 100k though, shame as I like the singles so far ('Somewhere Only We Know' aside). :(
April 12, 201411 yr Haters give up already, you're twisting her words. Edited April 12, 201411 yr by mr. everything
April 18, 201411 yr Two songs from the deluxe album have leaked - Who Do You Love? and Miserable Without Your Love - as well as two unreleased tracks called Stop Right There and I Don't Mind Babe.
April 18, 201411 yr I'm cautiously optimistic that this will be fab. It'll probably sink like a stone in the charts though. Hard Out Here remains brilliant.
April 18, 201411 yr I'm really hoping the two tracks from the deluxe that leaked are demos - they sound kinda dull :( I Don't Mind Babe is fabulous though, wish it was on the album. I'm not overly fussed about how it'll do in the charts, can see it being #1 due to a quiet week but a chart run like ARTPOP is what I can kinda see happening.
April 19, 201411 yr Ugh, whose idea was it to leave I Don't Mind Babe off the album? The only good song from the four recently leaked tracks? My level of anticipation for this album keeps dropping :(
April 19, 201411 yr I actually really like Miserable Without Your Love, I loved the chilled R&B sound though, however I agree that I Don't Mind Babe is good enough to be on the album, I also quite enjoyed Stop Right There! Haven't heard Who Do You Love? yet, shaping up to be a great album though, can't wait!
April 20, 201411 yr I have heard the three except "Who Do You Love?" "Miserable Without Your Love" is my fave.
April 20, 201411 yr "I Don't Mind Babe" kindah sounds like "Not Fair". But I wonder if it's about Azealsss Edited April 20, 201411 yr by barbaric_dan
