No descriptions, I haven't got the time. May sound like a lazy excuse but really. Same goes for my CD, it's very rushed.

*A female. :D

I'll still be able to post a review. Don't worry, someone. Probably in a week time.

Edited by FM11

That is one schizophrenic CD! Chuckling to myself that Rich got a cd with Behemoth on it!

How random  Quite an eclectic music taste there FM11 but I did enjoy parts of it, thanks for the tracklist, will edit it in!

I've had two listens to this CD, so here is my review of København. I apologise in advance for the writing skill of the review, not my best work, and for not appreciating much of this.

Track 1 - Opening with a very atmospheric instrumental, it’s so slow it’s SOUL-DESTROYING a little boring. Occasionally there’s what I assume is a sample that jolts the track and keeps it going a little longer but it feels like it wants to stop the rest of the time. It’s ok but it’s very minimalist and not that interesting. 3/10

Track 2 – An indie track in Danish. Unless my language skills are seriously bad, that sounds like Danish and I’d expect it with everything else I know about this CD. It’s picked up the pace a little from track 1, which is good. Not something normally I’d choose to listen to, however it’s very pleasant. There’s a good instrumental riff towards the end that I really like and that pushes it up a bit. 6.5/10

Track 3 – Now this is more like it. It’s in the same style as Track 2 but a lot more interesting. Still foreign indie male-balladry but I can live with that for now, there’s some interesting things going on with the instrumental and it’s a bit more dancey. I imagine this being a grower but for a second listen I really quite like this. I hope the CD keeps up this increase in quality. 8/10

Track 4 – I mean that is quite hard to match, so I wasn’t seriously expecting this to be a 10/10. But it is enjoyable enough for me to want to continue listening. The voice sounds like an.. autotuned Bastille? Kinda. It’s quite interesting. And very atmospheric still, all the CD has been like this. 7/10

Track 5 – Yes! Some lighter male vocals, still indie, but feels almost electronic now. I’m not very experienced in this area so I can’t really offer comparisons (seems like a Pet Shop Boys ballad?) but this is really relaxing and quite lovely. Best track so far. 9/10

Track 6 – A bit of a change of tack now as it’s a little upbeat and maybe a little bit more rocky. It’s good but I feel the hook is a little lacking. I think the foreign language could really get catchy on repeat listens. 7/10

Track 7 – Back to the (mostly) instrumental bits. I think this is a bit better than #1, which it is rather similar too but not by much if I’m honest. 5/10

Track 8 – I think this might actually be a proper instrumental. You know, unlike those fake instrumentals earlier. And it’s much better for it. Some really interesting drum things going on, wouldn’t sound out of place as a historical piece even (if we disregard the odd synth), lots of fascinating instrumentation. For being something completely different, even though I probably wouldn’t listen to it for enjoyment, I’ll gift it an 8/10

Track 9 – Yes. Well, it’s good, similar to track 5 out of memory and it’s got a great hook with ‘light, light, light, the eye of the storm’ but other than that it’s a little basic. It’s like a lot of this CD, pleasant but THERE. So it’ll be another 7/10

Track 10 – I barely noticed the track had changed at this point. Until the upbeat foreign language kicked in. It’s probably a good thing this CD wasn’t longer. But no, this is fun and has some strong sections just I have no idea what it’s about and it also feels a little inessential. Another 7/10.. maybe I am being a little generous.

Track 11 – Short closing track to finish and it’s weird. Lots of little synths but I’m not sure what it was trying to do. 5/10

(Average: 6.6/10)

So in conclusion this is a CD that is great if you like airy male-vocalled Danish (I am going to look so stupid if it’s Norwegian or something) indie and varying forms of instrumentals. Not so great if you are not a fan of that. This might have been a concept CD but it was certainly a CD that is seemingly the opposite of everything Buzzjack stands for (although maybe not in this forum but I mean SERIOUSLY not a female vocal in sight?). To be honest, a lot of it was… dull (I can't even hate it because it's not hate worthy, it's nice but not good enough) but on the positive side I did make a couple of good discoveries and I would probably have never have listened to any of this stuff normally.

I’m guessing this is either Horatio or Thomsen’s CD based on their UP entries and their Danishness. Anyway, thank you for the CD, I will be keeping it, especially track 5, but I suspect it was best suited for someone else in this forum.

Not mine, and I'll hazard a guess and say it's not Thomsen's either.
Well if it's not my only other conceivable option is Pavel and I'm not sure he'd do something so homogeneous.
I thought you'd already get into yo minds that anything Danish = me even thought we've got a couple of genuine Danes participating as well. ~true dane~

Well, Stoffer & Maskinen are on my CD for the THIRD TIME IN A ROW so take a hint next time y'all, etc. :D

Eyes, if you liked #05 then you'll probably like their last album too! Tak for listening (and not liking :( ) my CD <3

Edited by KNIФE

Ah so I've actually listened to some Stoffer og Maskinen now!! That was one of the better ones. Interesting with Olafur as I really love Ljosio (or however you do the accents) but I wasn't too enamoured with this. To be honest, Pav, I suspect a lot of this CD will be growers so I won't delete anything and just let it grow on me.

(watch as I start really liking it in about 6 months)

I tried to be a bit more creative with this review like my last one, but I've been too distracted and dried up of inspiration lately so apologies to whoever sent for this for this rushed, rather tame review.

The CD is called Some Dwell in Hotels With Jezebels, its tone is rather dark and music quite varied in style.

Track 1: 'You were the right girl in the wrong time', the opening lyric and a rather gorgeous one at that. This is an electronic-esque pop song that starts out quiet but has a bursting chorus, all seems to be about a girl and the lyrics seem to tell quite a clever story of rags to riches. It sounds quite Marina & the Diamonds-esque although I'm sure its not her, I really like it anyway. 8/10

Track 2: I know the artist, but not the song - this is definitely Nelly Furtado, although she seems to be accompanied by a rather creepy sounding voice, it sounds like the Beast below, it does add a really creepy and rather unsettling theme to it along with the very sad lyrics about a rise and fall. I think the voice is a bit excessive at times, but otherwise, its a very good ballad from her 8/10

Track 3: This track reminds me, in terms of structure and general sound, of Blue Monday - this is a VERY good thing indeed. A subtle but excellent bassline moves along slowly as a computerised vocal asks about ‘going out and killing tonight’. The sinister feeling is conveyed brilliantly here and as the track moves, it seems to build up, just building this sinister sense before an enigmatic ending. By far the best track on here. 9/10

Track 4: This is where the title comes from. I actually googled this lyric to find that this is the Fugees . This is completely rap based, and is very, very dark. It definitely seems to be a political and dark message about the lower class and a rough childhood. They each share a verse, and then as the end as the track comes, there seems to be a sort of re-do of Killing Me Softly with different lyrics, the style (asides from the very angry verses) is very Fugees and its pretty easy to work out its them. I don't usually listen to this sort of thing but I can easily see the sheer amount of emotion put into this and I like the backing track, so I approve 7/10

Track 5: An instrumental track. A full on trumpet laden outpour of grief is how I'd describe it. there doesn’t seem to be many lyrics except a wailing, melancholy female over the top of it. It’s a little hard to form an opinion on this one as its pretty brief and stays the same throughout, but I think I like it. 7/10

Track 6: An electronic sort of song with, again, sad female vocals. I wasn't overly sold on the vocals, but I love the instrumental, it seems to constantly bounce up and down from synths to light orchestra...and look there's even a percussion section! 8/10

Track 7: This is similar to the above track, an electronic-esque female track, except there's slightly rocky feel this time. My thoughts are pretty much the same, minus points for the instrumental not being as interesting 7/10

Track 8: This is a duet. I think the vocals really compliment each other well and they each seem to reflect a longing. It slowly builds into a sing-along stadium rock sort of number, really liked it overall 8/10

Track 9: Now we have a track that seems to be going on about serial numbers (SH10151 to be precise) and flight numbers (Prophet 60091), and lyrics which I can only imagine is from the perspective of someone from Star Trek or something. Its set against a rather minimalist pop beat with a lots of space effects and all sorts of instruments. Very odd to say the least...but in a good way. 7/10

Track 10: A bit of a change of style here. An all out Radiohead-esque rock ballad that sounds a lot like Kodaline, I like the latter but the former are a band I'm that keen on unfortunately and it reminds me a bit too much of them. I really like the piano, but generally there's not much else to keep my attention and I find the chorus a bit too repetitive 6/10

Track 11: A very subdued, quite sinister sounding track female, computerised vocal. It gives a real sense of dark thoughts with the 'waiting patiently' lyric, I really loved the raw production and cold sounding vocals of the track. The chorus is a bit of a letdown after the excellent verses, but still really good. 8/10

Track 12: Rock track which sounds a lot like Muse, but was again quite Radiohead-esque. The one thing that put me off was this singer's diction, I just can't tell what he's saying 'You're my weeerrrrr'??? The entire chorus and most of the verses are indecipherable and the whole thing doesn't really go anywhere. 5/10

Track 13: An R'n'B-esque track with a very distinct vocal style which I'm sure I recognise, but can't quite pin down. This is a rare track on this CD which seems to have a positive feeling. The song lyrics seem to be the line ‘what can I do, I love you baby’ with the word ‘baby’ after every word before jumbling into a bit of a mess. This isn't honestly my cup of tea and I found it a bit annoying after a while. 4/10

Track 14: Back to a very melancholy mood now. This woman seems to be lamenting over her loss, or lack, of love or sexual feeling. In a 'virgin state of mind' as she puts it. I really quite liked the subtlety and sadness reflected in such a minimal and relatively short song 8/10

Track 15: Female R'n'B esque rap song. Very melancholy lyrics about the pains of modern day life. Seems to get more desperate as it goes along, praying for this torment to stop. Much like track 4, its not really my taste, but I can appreciate the lyrics are meaningful. 6/10

Track 16: This starts off with subtle rap verses like the last one before breaking into a big chorus which seems very determined and angry in what seems to be an attack on politics. Her voice seems to have a foreign twang so I would imagine that that fits the meaning and gives it a sort of context. Solid song. 7/10

Track 17: The last track with vocals. A melancholy track with very desperate lyrics about being ‘Mad about you’. It starts off with a R'n'B esque feel and slowly grows as the instruments and vocals grow louder and the desperation grows. I really like the structure of the track and the instrumental, the vocals can grate after a while, but it was generally a satisfying finish 8/10

Track 18: Closing blues-esque instrumental that are a fitting end acting as a kind of 'end credits'. Nothing really to say about it, I like the saxophone. 7/10

Overall: 8/10 I really like how this CD gave off a certain mood, it was very dark for the most part but didn't seem to have a clear theme/story which I would've enjoyed even more, but generally, there were some very interesting and solid tracks from all genres. None really sounded like each other either which was also really good, so thank you very much to whoever made it.

I honestly have no idea who made this as there's a varied style throughout, I guess the inclusion of Nelly Furtado might mean its someone towards the pop end of the spectrum, but no, no idea really. Reveal yourselves! *waves wand*

That would be mine, Tom! :D I was a little terrified when I saw that I got you again because my first thought was "well, I can't send him the same sound again" but I had no idea what you liked so I tried to be as varied as possible without going too extreme. I'll give you the tracklist + comments now:

http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/9726/23255458.png

01 Mano's Daughter - What's A Girl Supposed To Do? I thought this would be a nice opener (not sure why), so I'm glad you liked it!

02 Oakenfold - The Harder They Come (feat. Nelly Furtado & Tricky) This is from the same album as one of the tracks on my last CD swap to you, so I was hoping you wouldn't recognise it! The male vocals aren't to everyone's tastes (I didn't like them initially) but Nelly's voice is lovely on this track so that's why included it. Slightly relieved you liked this because I thought the male vocals would be a big no-no! :D

03 Golden Boy - Rippin Kittin (feat. Miss Kittin) This is gorgeous so I'm delighted you really liked it! I remember it from when I was younger and I've always wanted to send this to BJSC but I was always too afraid.

04 The Fugees - Family Business This is from the album The Score which is probably one of my favourite albums. It's stunning from start to finish! I wasn't sure if it would be your cup of tea, but I'm glad I took the risk and that you liked it!

05 Beirut - Gulag Orkestar I didn't like this when I first heard it a few years ago, but I played the full album (also titled 'Gulag Orkestar') in work last summer out of boredom and it really grew on me. I think your description is quite fitting!

06 Moullinex - Darkest Night Another one I want to send to BJSC but probably won't because it'll flop haha. The instrumental is gorgeous (as are the vocals [for me!]), so again I'm relieved you liked it as I wasn't sure if it's what you like.

07 Mano's Daughter - The Machine I was really loving this last summer and still kind of do. I agree with you about the instrumental though. It kind of just goes nowhere, but the chorus is what makes it for me. This is another one I've thought about sending to BJSC! (It just looks like I'm throwing all my BJSC rejects at you, doesn't it? That wasn't my intention! :D)

08 Cold Mailman - My Recurring Dream I actually almost sent this to BJSC as well  but it didn't get the Pavel STAMP OF APPROVAL, so I decided against it. :P I love how it builds up and the video for it is really great.

09 Hooverphonic - 2Wicky This is probably one of my favourites from when I was kid. I think it was featured in I Know What You Did Last Summer (actually, track 12 of this CD is also from that movie!), which is probably where I first heard it! The lyrics are a tad odd but they fit the mood/sound quite well. Glad you kind of liked it. :D

10 Kodaline - Pray Good guess! The piano is lovely and that's probably the thing I like most about the song. I actually kinda hated Kodaline years ago (when they were 21 Demands) but this new direction suits them well.

11 Sei A - Ether I *almost* included this in the last CD so when I saw I got you again I thought I may as well just include it and see what you think! It's off one of the Hotel Costes compilations (don't know which one). Good to see that you like it though!

12 The Din Pedals - Waterfall Nobody likes this song. Literally anybody who hears it is just like "eugh NEXT"!!! Another song from when I was a kid, so I love it for nostalgic purposes!

13 Joy Wellboy - What Can I Do Love, You Can Do Me I actually sent this to BJSC and it flopped on its arse like there was no tomorrow. Actually, this is the album version. The version I sent was quite different and more upbeat ('tis

). Her album is actually really good and I was surprised I liked it so much. Was gutted when it failed to qualify in BJSC.

14 K's Choice - Virgin State of Mind I first came across this when I used to watch Buffy on TV when I younger. Such a lovely song. Glad you liked this one though because again it's one that most of my friends don't like! (might need to CHANGE my friends!)

15 K.Flay - Less Than Zero Yeah, this was quite risky. I didn't like it when I first heard it but it grew on me when it was entered into Unknown Pleasures (can't remember which edition!).

16 Nneka - Soul Is Heavy I think she's German-Nigerian, not really sure. I heard this on the radio in France shortly after it was released and loved it! It's quite political but it's a good protest song. Love the anger in it and the video is quite nice as well!

17 Hooverphonic - Mad About You I wanted to include this on my last CD but it didn't really fit the theme, so seeing as this CD wasn't as restricted as the last I thought I'd throw it in!

18 1995 - C'est Ça Notre Vie I wanted to finish with an instrumental (like I did last time) and thought this was probably a better song for it as opposed to my closing track on the last CD which was rather depressing!

___

Because it was such a mixed bunch I really had no idea if you were going to like it not, so color me CHUFFED that you liked the majority of it! I wasn't sure as to whether or not to include a story/theme like last time because it would've probably have been the same sound and I wasn't sure if you'd be happy with receiving the same thing twice! But if I get you for the third time in a row then I might do the story thing again. :P Thanks for the great review, I really enjoyed reading the feedback! ^_^

I have listened to the CD and it is good. That is not my review.

I'll be sure to give it a few more listens and type something out when I'm next near a computer! I love writing long posts but on an ipad really isn't ideal. </3
